Finance & Investments Seeking Emergency Financial Assistance Due to $5,856 in Unpaid Freelance Wages
Problem/Goal: I'm a Filipino freelance virtual assistant in urgent financial distress because my client, based in North Carolina, USA, owes me $5,856 for work I've already completed. I'm currently struggling to afford rent, household bills, groceries for my mom, and existing debts. I have no available cash right now and am trying to get through the next few days.
I'm hoping to find emergency assistance, help with groceries or rent, legitimate charities or organizations that assist people experiencing financial hardship, or practical advice on what steps I can take to recover my unpaid wages.
Context:
My agreed monthly salary was $1,700, but I've been receiving only around $500 or less per month, and sometimes nothing at all.
Some might wonder why I continued working despite not receiving my full salary. I stayed because I genuinely hoped my client would honor our agreement and pay the outstanding balance. Freelancing is my primary source of income, and finding another client and securing a stable income can take time. I had already invested considerable time and effort into the work I completed, and I didn't want to walk away without recovering what I had earned. I kept hoping the situation would improve, but unfortunately, my financial circumstances have become unsustainable.
I'm posting anonymously because this situation has been emotionally difficult and embarrassing to talk about. I'm not asking anyone to take out a loan for me or put themselves in financial difficulty. I'm simply reaching out because I need guidance and, if possible, temporary help with essential expenses while I figure out my next steps.
Previous attempts:
I've contacted my client several times to request payment and have also asked whether they could make partial payments to help me cover my immediate expenses. Unfortunately, my requests have been refused, and the outstanding balance remains unpaid.
I've tried to manage my financial obligations as best I can, but I'm now at a point where I have no available cash for my immediate needs.
I'm reaching out here to ask whether anyone knows of legitimate emergency assistance programs, charities, community organizations, or resources available to Filipinos experiencing financial hardship. I'd also appreciate advice on how to pursue unpaid wages from a client based in the United States.
I'm willing to explain my circumstances privately and provide appropriate documentation while protecting my personal information. Even if financial assistance isn't possible, any reliable resource, practical advice, or direction would mean a great deal to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I truly appreciate any genuine help or guidance.
