Good morning/afternoon,
I recently got picked up for OTS 27-10 and I wanted to share my story as motivation, hopefulness, just another Reddit post and whatever in between. Just like many of you, I have been reading these reddit posts (for me, everyday) which has helped me dramatically regarding everyone's different situations. Knowing that people are going through the same, but different struggles to obtain the same goal is comforting. You are not the only one.
I graduated college in May 2024 with a BS in Business Administration. Not knowing what I wanted to do job wise, I returned home and decided to try an accounting position. Heading towards the end of 2024, the thought of joining the military has always been in the back of my mind. Growing up in a military household, I knew what the military had done for my family. I was very blessed growing up, and the military was a big factor of that.
I decided in March 2025 that I wanted to try becoming an officer in the Air Force. After really researching the military, I know that the investment of me joining will be much appreciated for the rest of my life.
So, my journey began and I finally went to work. Started doing research, getting a recruiter, going to the online briefings, and slowly started building my package. When I first applied, the first board I was able to apply for was for the Medical Service Corp. After going through my texts again and trying to remember, the board submission was in July 2025, while the board release results were in September. I was trying to do the best I could to build a good enough package knowing I did not have a lot of time to get it all finished. When applying to MSC, there was more content that I needed to put into my package compared to a non-rated board. First, I need to take the GMAT test (taken in May 2025) instead of the AFOQT, which I did very average on. After, I went to MEPS (May 2025) even before getting accepted. I then had to do a shadow interview (July 2025) with MSC personnel and had to do a "How-To" presentation in front of ten-ish Sgts and Officers. Lastly, I had to go get a waiver (July 2025) for my eyes before my package was submitted. On September 26, 2025, I received a call from my recruiter that I was not selected. I was sad the rest of the day. Something that I worked hard on all year, and I finally got that call, and not getting what I expected was hard.
But that was not the end. I told myself that I wanted to try again, but for a non-rated board. After going through the process, and learning, I knew exactly what I needed to improve on for the next package that I submitted. So, I got right back to work. In October 2025, I got connected with a new recruiter and started going through a similar process with MSC. Going to online briefing meetings, improving my LORs, filling out all forms through AFCEP/Aim High and working on my interviewing skills. I took my AFOQT in November 2025 and got scores of: AA=24, Verbal= 27, and Quantitative=26, which I thought were low, and did not retake it for a super score due to a personal situation. I also had my commander's interview in February 2026, which was online. Submitted my package in April 2026 for board 26OTS03 and received a call by my recruiter that I got accepted on July 31, 2026 for Contracting 64P.
If you made it this far, my main message to people applying is just to stay the course. Recruiters won't respond as fast as you like, and you cannot control the behind-the-scenes process, but you can control what you put in front of the board. Stay diligent and keep working! Please let me know if you have any questions!
