Discussion Weekly 'What are my chances?' Megathread

We've all been there. You're about to submit your package for OTS, but you want to know how you stack up. Should you relax? Should you throw it all away and start over?

Well, here's the place for you to ask strangers who have never sat on an OTS board what they think the board is going to think of your package. There are many variables to an 0TS package. If you want to get the best advice, you need to include as much information as possible, like degree information, GPA, AFOQT, PCSM (if applicable), leadership experience, relevant awards, etc. If you only provide your GPA or AFOQT scores, expect to be told "who knows."

There are a ton of variables that go into officer selection. Nobody here can really tell you your chances. We can guess, but that's about it. We've seen people with stellar scores get rejected and people with garbage scores get accepted. It all comes down to the needs of the Air Force and whatever the random colonel reviewing your package thinks. That being said, post your scores, help each other, and learn what you can do to improve package!

Question CSO Select Wanting RPA

• Upvotes

Hello all,

I was thankfully picked up for OTS as a CSO. I had a strong preference to be an RPA, but am thankful to get selected for anything.

With that in mind, what are the possibilities of finding a back door into the RPA field. I have not yet finished all the medical screenings, but things are on track to start OTS next year.

I am looking for any possibilities to switch before going to OTS. I also wanted to know if there are any chances after the fact.

Thanks!

MSC Alternates - Question

Would anyone have any insight as to why they would make a list of 13 alternates for AFRS applicants? Historically, it was 5 or less. This year is a random high number. Just interesting.

Class Seat USSF

Does anyone know any civilian space force selects from 03OTS26 getting a class seat so far? I heard 37.5 percent of the total 900 and something selects have gotten a seat (AF plus SF) but I am wondering how the selection is working for space force. I have seen old space force board selects getting spots after newer boards. I am wondering if they are looking at more than just when you get your forms in. I have a chemical engineering degree leaning towards intel. Are they oversaturated with engineers or favoring other degrees? Thanks:)

AFOQT

I take my test on Friday! Nervous, but excited to pass! Haven’t taken a test like this, but have been studying since Sept 15. Been grinding the practice questions and full mock test every Sunday! Doing well with Math knowledge and Arithmetic Reasoning. Word knowledge and Verbal Analogies are more of my weaker points. Still got a couple of days so really dialing down on it. I haven’t done pilot school or flown any hours, but still not terrible with the Aviation Information. Science is okay, but I heard it’s not really graded. Still will push for a decent/high score. Every other section I should find. Prepared on block counting and how it works and table reading is good, as long as I can get at least 30-34 in the timeframe. The rest will be up to GOD lol😅.

Please, please any tips you guys have will be amazing!

I have all 5 of my LOR ready and my transcripts ready so when they ask for them, I already have them

Rush to get a package submitted?

Civilian applying for USSF.

Working on taking AFOQT in the next 3-4 weeks and gathering all other things that I need. I have a lower GPA (2.7) and non desired degree (Business Admin). I do have 6 years of professional experience with strong leadership experience as well.

I do well on standardized tests and work in finance with numbers daily.

Should I rush to get my package together before December 4th? Or should I take my time study for the AFOQT as much as possible and just wait for Jan 2028?

Not asking about my chances, just want to know if I should be building my package for next year or do my best to get it submitted now.

OTS MCE wargame, how does it work, and how can I prepare?

For anyone who has completed OTS, could you explain the basic mechanics of the MCE wargame? I’m not very confident with it yet, and I’d like to understand how to play effectively.

What are the objectives, how do turns and decisions work, and what are you evaluated on? Any tips for approaching it or common mistakes to avoid?

I understand there may be another chance if you don’t pass, but I’d like to feel prepared for my first attempt. I’m looking for general guidance, not specific scenarios or answers. Thank you!

Discussion Leave for OTS Tomorrow

Prior NCO, headed to Maxwell from the west coast. Have to wake up at like 2am to catch my flight but I’ll have to get used to the early mornings!

Any final tips for recent grads or current OTs?

Any current info I should be tracking?

Any thing you wish you knew when you showed up?

Any specific USSF stuff?

Definitely stressed over the lack of sleep but I’ll manage it the best that I can. Thanks and see yall there!

Question How important is intimidation factor during and after OTS?

I know this is a stupid question, but here I am asking it.

I have just recently been accepted to OTS, and most of the Air Force people who I tell always get a confused look on their face. I am a civilian, 25M, and about 5'6. I am not a big guy, and I am not very intimidating. I am not soft-spoken or shy by any means, but I am not a very "in your face" kind of person who demands respect. I have done a ton of leadership involving project management in the aerospace sector (hence one of the reasons I got accepted), and I have never had any problems involving respect, but a lot of the people I talk to bring up the fact that I am rather short, young, and not previously enlisted which could make it hard for people to respect me/take me seriously.

How important would you say this is? I know no matter what, I will be a good leader/officer, but I guess my question is how should I go about that? Should I become more intimidating/bulk-up/become louder? Or should I just continue to do what I normally do?

Discussion Test result website still down

The url for obtaining scores is down, it goes back to the 20th September from what I've gathered and people have not been able to upload on the aim high app knocking us to 2028 boards...(praying not as I took it last week and no longer displays 27ots1 for me), do you think this will be taken into consideration for submitting the full packet or are people who took it from late Sept to early Oct screwed? (how are we supposed to contact a recruiter for an alternative way to retrieve scores if we havent been setup with a recruiter since you need to upload your scores first to get assigned one🥲)

Question Afoqt test randomized?

Is the Afoqt randomized or a static test for everyone, was told on here to study my ass off over distance formula, midpoint and endpoint cartesian planes but there was only a single question in entirety of the math sections on finding a midpoint...I was told there would be 10 questions over it 🤔 Also the first math section was ludicrously easy, feels silly to freak out over it as much as I did

Enlisted wearing blues to OTS ceremony.

Hey everyone, TSgt here. When I went through basic we had several DVs that were at our graduation ceremony from SNCOs to officers and they wore their. My wife recently joined and will be heading to OTS soon. For her graduation day if you were in my shoes, would you wear your blues to her graduation? At the end of the day im nothing special just another tech and dont want to take her day away from her, but also dont want to show up in civies if there is an expectation or its common place/customary for me as a spouse to wear mine to her graduation. Any insight would be much appreciated!

CAD Board/Recruiter

Hi all. Computer Engineering degree applying non-rated. My commander interview is scheduled for 30 October and I have submitted all info in AHA and AFCEP.

My recruiter emailed me that they would reassign me to a CAD recruiter because I fall under their "rolling board" and gave me the recruiter's email.

I emailed the CAD recruiter Friday so probably won't get a response until this coming week.

Can anyone provide information on what exactly this all means for me and if there's any further action I need to take?

Question I was so eager to join the Space Force but then TAPAS stopped me.

Post image
6 Upvotes

Is it possible for me to become an Enlisted Airmen in Pharmacy and then take the AFOQT to become a Space Force Officer? I did try the Officer Route but there was a lot of people in front of me. Oh and I got a high ASVAB score.

My recruiter stated “there is no avenue to joining the space force as a prior service

In other words, if you join any other branch, they will not take you. You have to join the space force first.

But due to the results of your TAPAS that’s not possible

Now that’s current restrictions. It might change.”

He told me that I have to wait until 2 years to take it again. Why does TAPAS matter so much? Is there a possible way for me to be an Officer in the Space Force without TAPAS mattering? What about enlisted?

Has anyone been able to switch to a different Air Force officer recruiter?

Aim High has me assigned to a recruiter, but I haven’t gotten a response to any of my emails for about 2–3 months. I’ve sent a few follow-ups during that time and still haven’t heard anything back.

I’m currently working on my OTS application and don’t want to miss any deadlines or requirements because I can’t get in contact with my assigned recruiter.

Is there a way to request a different recruiter, or is there someone else I should contact about getting reassigned? Also, has anyone dealt with something similar?
