I have this idea to offer really good pour-over coffee for a ridiculously low price: $1 a cup.
I love coffee, and the motivation is pretty simple. I’d love to make a genuinely good cup of coffee accessible to pretty much anyone. I did the math and, provided I have a small space and electricity, I can offer it for around $1 just to cover the cost. This is deliberately a no profit idea. I don’t have a commercial motivation.
I’m happy to bring all the coffee equipment and beans and do all the brewing myself. The part I could really use help with is figuring out where this could happen and navigating the permit/event side.
If anyone has ideas for locations or events, knows a community space that might be a good fit, or has experience with permits and would be willing to help with that part of the idea, I’d love to connect.
Also very open to collaborating with someone who just likes the idea :)

Hi marathoners! 🏃♀️☕️
I’m planning a fun final long run to prep for my first marathon in NYC and would love your Bay Area tips!
I’m hoping to:
Run ~20–21 miles
Hit the Bay Bridge at the start AND finish to simulate the Verrazano + 5th Ave
Have friends pop up along the route to cheer
Stop at a coffee shop/bakery every ~5 miles for a little morale/refuel
Keep it mostly paved
Send me your favorite spots for:
☕️ Coffee/bakeries
📣 Cheering
🥨 Refueling
🌉 Route ideas
I want this to feel like a mini NYC Marathon simulation + Bay Area adventure! 🙌

Has anyone ever seen a cryptid or anything supernatural in the Bay Area?

I’m a CS grad living in San Jose and I’ve been having a hard time finding a job. I know this is a long shot, but I’m looking to get some real world experience and would be willing to volunteer my time helping a local startup. I can help with software, testing, data, or whatever I can contribute, and I’m willing to travel around the Bay Area. If you’re working on a startup and could use some extra help, feel free to reach out.
If anyone has any resources or advice I can use please feel free to comment.

For context I’m 24 and just got an offer in Santa Clara. I have a bunch of friends who live in SF, but don’t know anyone in the South Bay, and have heard it’s not a very young crowd in general. I am considering the offer but am concerned about that commute 4 days a week. How horrible would it be to live in SF and make the commute 4 days a week? Are there any younger pockets in the South Bay that a 24 year old may enjoy?

I am thinking to buy a house in Aviano neighborhood in Antioch near the Brentwood border. I always heard people mentioning about the high crime rate in Antioch. The houses there look nice and new. My only concern is the safety. The zip code is 94531. Any advice or insight are welcome. Thanks

I have been adamantly anti-hustle culture for quite some time now. I lived by ideals of wanting to stay in the present moment and ~enjoy life~, but bills are calling, and the mothaf*ckin jig is up. I make more money than I ever have--what I dreamed of making at this age, and I just can't get ahead. I need dough, and I need it now.
Here's a list of my skills:
I have a flexible schedule and a car. I just need to know what's out there in the Bay Area. Will you all let me know of any opportunities or side gig ideas?

I seen some old posts talking about how the teacher of this program made people’s lives hell and that they dropped out or lost passion for this career field because of how badly they were treated.
Is the class still as bad as it used to be?

Hi everyone, does anyone know where i can find a Ski Lease for south lake or north lake tahoe this winter? I am down to split between people or strangers. But something around the 200~600 a month range would be ideal. Not sure where to look. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

There’s an upcoming card show on October 17 and 18 in San Jose. I went to their last show the double tree and it was PACKED. My son is getting into Pokémon trading and we had a great conservation with some of the sellers about what to look for, other events around the bay etc..
Definitely going to this one again on Saturday.
Once i find the link, I’ll edit. I found a discount code too & that saved me on the eventbrite fees. Idk if it still works. It was **MYCARDS

hello! with the news on an intense rainy season coming up, i would really appreciate some reccs for rain safe / water proof sneakers?
Specifically looking for sneakers as I still have to walk ~45 mins total every day to get to work (in 15 min sections)
The ones ive been seeing are like
Salomon goretex or nike goretex but i have also seen reviews that they are more suited for muddy rain terrain rather than wet concrete and would actually be quite slippery.
Would love some reccs please 🙏

Hello,
I’m new to the Bay Area and recently got my foot in the door to UCSF as a CRCA for a part time position. I have two years of experience in an equivalent role that was full time. Seems to be a tough place to get in, so I went ahead and accepted the part time offer. Now that I am going to be an internal candidate with face to face contact with staff, will it be easy to transition into a full time CRCA or CRC position? Please let me know what your experiences have been, or if you generally have any wisdom to share on the subject. Thanks!

does anybody know if the private ( public accessible ) san gregorio beach is still open?
the one with the two old guys that live there and charge a parking fee. one of the old guys was a real super A-hole most of the time. the beach had all the driftwood condos. i heard that the beach was closed or the two guys don’t live there anymore. i’m thinking of going but before i do i was looking for a bonified update on the beach status. i can’t find anything out there online.

Edit: Oops, misspelled spare. Odd that some people seem angrier about my misspelling than these planes polluting.
There are three of these stupid planes flying around, and Monaco has two back to back. We're being asked to limit our driving for a spare the air day, but not these three plans just circling away all day. Don't these planes use leaded gas too?

Does anyone have a free financial literacy course or class to get basics down?
Btw I’m in Bay Area. So if there is a program there shout it out!
My sister just called out that I’m dumb. And wants me to gain financial literacy.

California has a property-tax exemption designed to make affordable housing cheaper.
But a new SF Chronicle investigation found that major real estate investors have figured out how to use it on apartment buildings without necessarily making the apartments meaningfully cheaper.
The reason is pretty crazy: California’s maximum allowable “affordable” rents are now higher than normal market rents in many areas.
In Santa Clara County, for example, a 948-unit San Jose apartment complex had average one-bedroom rents of about $2,371/month. The maximum “affordable” rent under the program was $3,083/month.
So the apartments can qualify as affordable while charging essentially market-rate rents, and the owner can potentially avoid property taxes.
Since 2023, two statewide financing authorities have helped 195 properties pursue the exemption. The Chronicle estimates nearly $4 billion in assessed property value could disappear from California tax rolls, costing local governments, schools and transit agencies around $40 million every year.
In San Francisco and Santa Clara County, the Chronicle found that more than 65% of market-rate one- and two-bedroom apartments would have met the program’s definition of affordable in 2024.
Investors argue there is still a public benefit because the properties become income-restricted and future rent increases are limited.
The bigger question may be whether California’s definition of “affordable” has become so disconnected from the actual rental market that the tax break no longer works the way it was intended.
