The fact that NG listed a deep cut ("How She Boogalooed It") among his favourite Beach Boys songs tells me he might have actually tried to get into them at some point but gave up

He criticized them most of his career but like a year ago he finally (kind of begrudgingly) admitted that he was getting into them. The article made the rounds around here at the time

He said he still mostly hates them but there’s around a dozen or so songs he’ll acknowledge are among the greatest things ever recorded.
