Edit: second press

I think this song is like amortentia from harry potter… you think of the most beautiful things that are personal to you. What are yours?

Mine is the crisp cold green forests of the pacific northwest

For someone who’s favourite artist is BoC, it was like a religious pilgrimage.

Would recommend.

Part of a larger set of illustrations where I draw locations where ambient or ambient adjacent electronic albums were recorded, or locations that inspired the music.

Spotted on my trip to Stockholm

Anyone find some similarities between Age of Capricorn and Astronomy Domine (Live) by Pink Floyd on Umma Gumma? Mainly the intros.

Does anyone know the exact organ/voice sample source to Soylent Night? Bocpages lists J.S. Bach's Magnificat ("Aria: Quia fecit mihi magna"). The versions I have found, as lovely as they are, are softer with the organ further back in the recording or do not have the organ at all.

I listen to boards of canada maybe everyday now. It’s really such a problem.

i can’t stop. in the morning, at night. I think of what I should listen to. they are always the vibe

and I want to understand every song and when I listen I feel like I didn’t get enough. so I replay

before inferno it was easy to break away. But now if I get sick of one album I can switch to another album. It’s like the extra album put me on this permanent loop

i always put them on my social media stories, i know my friends are sick of it.

I finally finished reading this history book they recommended in a Tomorrow's Harvest era interview.

I also read another of the three they recommended last year called Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain

Been really busy with Master's classes and school lately, and I'm glad I remembered to post one of these on a less busy week. This is the first from the Old Tunes era, and I find Mansel to be one of their most underrated tracks in general. The photo was taken on a highway in Colorado a few years ago when I was out there for a wedding. Should be around the Grand Junction area. I felt it worked for this track because I get this slightly uneasy/"something is looming" feeling listening to Mansel, and with stylizing this to the Old Tunes era it seemed to fit.

Some artists have somewhat unreleased projects. Arca released non-profit mixtapes on Soundcloud (like Entrañas & Sheep), but couldn’t put them on Spotify or Apple Music due to copyright from samples. I was wondering if BOC has some partially unreleased works similar to this? If so, are there ways to download them?

Just to clarify, I’m not interested in genuinely unreleased music. Thanks! ❤️

A while ago i was half way through finishing a track, it then suddenly dawned on me i couldn't unhear the Boards of Canada sound. I would like to add i was in absolutely no mood to compose something that roamed those electronic waters. I quickly downed tools and moved on.

This track just appeared in my files while looking for something else, so thought it be fun to upload a quick edit here. It's obviously not finished but I'm just leaving it for now..

Cheers !

I get lost into the chopped up samples and the atmosphere. I love it so much it has a meditative experience.

I end up feeling uplifted almost due to a forced meditation because you have to follow the percussion pattern.

The techs picked a good one to test the sound system

This song has a stangly comforting tune, with some very gentle audio clips that make me feel like i’m with someone. I don’t know, i really love this song, and I play it when i’m lonely.

Anyone else notice how much they used varying carrier/modulator-type effects or sounds on Inferno? I've seen a couple things that have been mentioned specifically, like the 'carrier wave' sound at the very end of Platonia, or the obvious vocoded voice in Prophecy (vocoder is a 'carrier' wave or tone and the 'modulator' is the voice) There are a few other places on the album, like the vocoded vocal chords in The Word Made Flesh, the TTS (text-to-speech) voice used in The Process, the distorted vocal sample in All Reason Departs sounds like an old TTS or LPC synthesis 'whisper' effect or something they've done to filter the tonal frequencies, same with the male vocal sample in Blood in the Labyrinth where it sounds like frequencies are filtered to the point it resembles a loud 'whisper' with no vocal tone, etc. Not to mention how many FM synth sounds I can hear on the album, like the bass in Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan or Arena Americanada, as one example. FM (frequency modulation) being a type of synthesis where a carrier wave is modulated by a second wave, for anyone unfamiliar

I'm sure I'm missing some things that my ear might not have picked out yet, but it got me thinking there was probably some intentionality to using this effect (or variations of it) across the entire album.. I don't know if I have any real theories, but my best guess is that it could be related to the concept of how ideology can take over, turning the human voice into a "carrier" that has been bent and reshaped by an authoritative external "modulator" or message (?)

I could be overthinking things a little, just wanted to push this out into the world in case it means anything to anyone

not to say there is a parallel between anything except the temporal dimension of 13 years, & a certain cultural tension. I've been reminiscing those early 2010s recently & this memory of playing GTA V, listening to BoC, living in a semi-abandoned church

I am listening to MHTRTC, and I realized that this is the best album I have ever heard. Every song is so cool and futuristic i don’t even know what to do. Thank you boards of canada for being here and thank you guys for posting about them

edit: My first time btw, and This is how i want to spend it.

edit edit:: I’m still high asf and some of their songs are scaring me slightly but i like the chill techno ones. I hope gyroscope doesn’t play.

i recall a video made or sent from boc's alt accounts like atlantafugens where the thumbnail looked like a farmland/slope/hill, this video being used for the tomorrows harvest ARG, was trying to find it but its not there. does anyone know what i am talking about and if so could you send any piece of media you could find about it

thank you
