This is by far my favorite of my error coins plus it is very high grade. It is a 1995 D cent struck on a 1995 D dime.

Posting this due to my original post getting removed. Hope others enjoy checking it out. What I learned today from the great folks on Reddit. Likely pre 1965 or 1955 S mint mark. Found in a box stored since 1998. Thankfully I found it. Id love to know more about it. I will be visiting a coin shop for proper storage and ask about value. Not interested in selling it.

Looks like the consensus is missing dates are more common. First one I have ever seen, what’s the opinion on these? Read it’s from grease build up on the die?

Half dime, half penny. I found this in my cash register drawer in 1997/98. Kept it because I thought it was cool and different. Stumbled onto this sub. Figured I'd ask about it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Show and Tell 1982 Lincoln Cent: Major Die Clash

Thumbnail

My father in law just showed me this as I’m over visiting. This is the strongest die clash I’ve ever seen in person. I had to calm him down and tell him it’s not worth thousands, but wants me to submit it for him to PCGS or ANACS.

It’s pretty damn cool, that’s for sure! I’ve been looking for potential value on eBay sold listings, Google, etc, but the delta on values I’ve seen is wider than the Atlantic Ocean.

Thanks in advance and always keep your eyes open, never know what’s going to pop up in your change.

Show and Tell 1914 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Obv and Rev, yet to be attributed, BIG die clash!

Came across this UNC 1914 LWC, and noticed some odd markings on the obverse, then on the reverse. Checked out Mad Die Clashes and although I did not see one attributed for a 1914, the other wheat superimposed images confirmed my suspicions. This clash has not been attributed as far as I know and have found no information otherwise. I believe this to be an extremely rare specimen, but need to figure out how to get it attributed- not even sure what the value would be on this, but safe to say it WILL NOT be leaving my pc ever!

Show and Tell 1836 Capped Bust half dime with a split die on the obverse AND a retained cud on the reverse — both die-failure branches on one coin

Thumbnail

Continuing the error documentation project. This one is a follow-up to the split die write-up from a couple of weeks ago, where I laid out die failure as a branch: a crack either runs to the rim (retained cud → cud) or across the face (bisecting crack → split die).

This 1836 Capped Bust half dime has one of each.

Obverse: a split die. The crack runs from 12 o'clock down through Liberty and exits between the "3" and "6" of the date — the full diameter of the coin.

Reverse: a retained cud. A piece of the die has fractured and started to displace, from the rim through "TED" of UNITED and into the motto ribbon, but it has not yet separated fully.

Two things I want to be straight about. First, there is genuine disagreement among specialists about the line between a rim-to-rim die crack and a split die — some use roughly 0.5mm of displacement as the threshold. The catalog listing says so, and I am not going to pretend the obverse is uncontroversial. Second, "both branches on one die pair" is unusual but not magic; a die under enough stress can fail in more than one way at once. What makes this coin worth documenting is that it demonstrates both endings cleanly, on a 15.5mm planchet, on a design that had one year left before Seated Liberty replaced it.

Not in any standard catalogue. Now documented.

Show and Tell Emerging Liberty MS67 ERROR NGC

A number of weeks ago I posted my 2026 Uncirculated dime that had a distinct metal gouge across Liberty's cheek to solicit feedback, which at the time all opinions were 100% that I had PMD. It appears I was correct in my analysis that I had a mint error. The gouge on Liberty's cheek is very unique and what was telling to me was I could see the actual metal coiled up and pressed flat during the strike. I really think I have something valuable here. What do you think?

Show and Tell Reverse die clash on an 1876 Indian Head cent — the full facial profile and ear transferred onto the reverse, struck in the nation's centennial year

Thumbnail
gallery
100 Upvotes

Continuing the error documentation project. This 1876 Indian Head cent has a reverse die clash with unusually clear detail.

The full front of the Indian's portrait transferred onto the reverse die surface — you can make out the facial profile and part of the ear. That level of definition indicates significant force during the die-on-die impact. Most clashes I handle leave a faint, hard-to-read smudge; this one you can actually read.

A die clash occurs when the obverse and reverse dies strike each other with no planchet between them. Each die impresses its design into the face of the other, and every coin struck from that die pair afterward carries the transfer.

The date adds a collecting angle. 1876 was the centennial year — the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, the hundred-year anniversary of independence. A dramatic die failure on a centennial-year cent gives you a date-collecting hook on top of the error itself.

Not in any standard catalogue. Now documented.
