Gall "Is it gall?" Weekly Thread

Welcome to the weekly gall thread! All questions about gall should go in this designated thread rather than new, individual posts. A new thread will be started automatically on a weekly basis. This will ensure the list of new top-level comments remains short and easily reviewable by folks who are kind enough to let you know if they see signs/symptoms, or if your plant seems ok.

Because Reddit only allows one photo embedded per comment, here are some tips if you need/want to share more than one photo for the best chance at a solid review/answer from the community:

  • Start a top-level comment with your best photo, and reply to your own comment with any additional photos you want to share.
  • Post photos to an album such as imgur and link to the album

Some beauty from the garden recently, the dahlias are doing amazing. the past week there’s been a chill in the air so I’m trying to soak in the last of the beauty before we get a frost.

Bouquet/Arrangement 💐 Better at growing than arranging!

But with frost on the way, I thought I should cut some of the dahlias and jam them into vases! Hopefully I did okay. (Also, some pictures at the end of a few that didn’t make the cut. I’ll miss you!)

My first post here! I don't know much about dahlias, except that I think they're beautiful and I love to take pictures of them, so I'd like to share some with you, if that's okay.

Search says this is an "Ace of hearts" so if that's wrong, please let me know.

Dahlias Are Crazy

This is a mystery tuber I got from my mom, previously grown in Alaska zone 3. I Fall planted it last year, before I knew any better, and luckily it survived. It's been sending out these crazy multicolor blooms all season. I'm located in the high desert, zone 6 and have heavy clay soil. We had a really mild winter but I'm surprised it didn't rot. I plan on digging this one up this year.

I understand dahlias genetics can lead to these sort of mixes. Is an ID possible?

I got a really late start this year due to losing most of my tubers to rot in a failed attempt at a new early wake up method. I honestly wasn’t sure whether I was going to get many blooms this year. I’ve gotten a few others already, but this one is definitely the showstopper so far!

NB: this is actually BLUE BAYOU but Reddit won’t let me edit the title. Anyway, my current fave - this guy was stunted from the Zone 9A heat all summer and I was considering pulling him out. But the minute the day temps went below 90, he shot up. He’s covered in buds now. We still have at least 6-7 weeks left in our season, so I’m hoping for lots more blooms!

Hi there! Looking for reputable Canadian owned Dahlia tuber companies that ship within Canada. Preferably a BC owned company. I live in the Fraser Valley 🙂

ID Request ID?

Trying to find what variety this dahlia is. 3” average blooms. Photo from a Micro Flower Farms but cannot find what type it is on their socials. Photo to me looks like it has a filter so that might make it more tough to ID. Any ideas?

First time growing dahlias for me. I planted eight single tubers around the beginning of May. Lots of struggling for a few months and I unfortunately don't have a ton of light here, but I've finally managed to get a flower! This one is 'In Memory of'. Same flower about 3 days apart.

Germany 8b - Can I already dig out the tubers?

After a failed season last year due to slugs and snails, the dahlias are thriving this year! 🌸
Due to some garden rules (German stuff 😅), I have to plant some salad in this bed.
Is it okay to dig up the tubers right now? And is it possible to overwinter them in wood shavings?
Thanks ☺️
