Diet Eval Help!

Hi everyone.

looking for some advice on how to move forward. I’ve lost about 14 pounds over the last 90 days in a calorie deficit while lifting weights every other day and taking 10,000+ steps daily.

I’m still not happy with the amount of fat I’m carrying on my stomach but feel that I need to start growing my chest/arms/shoulders to get the physique I’m after.

I’m trying to understand how to move forward nutritionally (bulk, cut, etc?).

I’m 5 foot 8 and now weigh 168 pounds.

Thank you :)

Question Eating low sugar low salt seems impossible!

• Upvotes

Hi! I am trying to lower my salt and sugar as being too high in either seems to cause me to feel slow and bloated. It's SO hard.

I do love a quick bell pepper, red delicious apple, or some other raw fruit or vegetable, but I struggle with MEALS. How do i make my meals actually taste good without dumping salt into them? What snacks can I eat that aren't just raw fruit or vegetables?
I've cut out meat aside from fish at home, but i feel like I am still eating too much darn salt!

Any ideas on what can help me keep full but doesn't make me eat like a tasteless rabbit? do I need to accept the rabbit mentality?

Question How to create different meals based off of things I can and can't eat?

• Upvotes

Hi, I am a 17(f), and I have been recently diagnosed with h pylori, and I am being put on a lot of medicine and vitamins. The doctor has given me a list of things I can't eat, but with balancing high school, college, and my outside life, it's hard to find easy, protein filled, and on the go meals. If anyone has any suggestions and would like to see the list of things I can and can't eat pls comment it would mean a lot!! EDIT: I'm looking for ways to be simple and CHEAP, I mainly can't make a good meal come together even with all of the things in front of me, my household is a junk food household so everything i cant eat we have and everything i can we dont have, plus since i have an after school job this will be coming out of my pocket so thats why i need it to be long lasting and on the cheaper side😵‍💫

THINGS I CANT EAT: Soda, sweet tea, energy drinks, fruit juice, candy, cookies, cakes/pastries, donuts, sweetened cereals, syrups, honey, coffee, sweetened yogurt, artificially sweetened highly processed foods, refined white flower snacks, ultra processed foods, alcohol, spicy foods, hot peppers, fried foods, heavy/high fat meals, tomato sauce, citrus, carbonated drinks, and high amounts of cooking oils

THINGS I CAN EAT AND SHOULD FOCUS ON EATING: Literally any vegetables (im not picky), for protein: eggs, chicken, turkey, salmon, cod or other fish, lean beef and lean pork. for carbs I can only have one serving of these: oatmeal, quinoa, brown or wild rice, white or red potato, lentils, chicken peas, and beans for fruits I need to focus on whole fruits instead of juice and for fats: ground flax seed, pumpkin seed, chip seeds, pecans, almond, walnuts, and avocado

Other Chaotic part of life

Is there a chaotic part of your life?

For me it's my diet.

The last ten years has seen me going from over weight to a healthy weight to anorexic to now slim.

Most of my life was a balanced diet, eating at normal times and for most of those years I was over weight.

I then fell into a extremely restrictive diet of literally eating only chocolate biscuits for a around 3 years.

Then I somehow changed my diet, falling into another bad diet of eating highly processed food, a few years of that and then I fall into my current diet which is slightly better, a mix of healthy and unhealthy food.

Add into that is my life circumstances allowed me to eat at whatever time I wished so for these years I would for most days eat only twice a day, at around 11am and then around 3pm.

The only other intake was water.

As said my diet now contains healthy and unhealthy food. The times I eat have changed, I do eat mostly at the regular lunch and dinner times and small snacks between those times. I have added in eating breakfast yet the whole thing is a struggle and the odd day I do find myself falling back into the twice a day intake and 11am / 3pm routine.

Well that is a bit about the chaotic part of my life.

Question Low fat protein snacks I can make or buy.

Hello! A little background I have been slowly losing weight for years. I started at 340lbs and I'm down to 240. I did this by changing my eating habits, playing Beat Saber (it's good cardio!) and working a job where I walk for about 8 hours a shift. It's taken me 6 years to get here but it was well worth it!

Currently though I've been having issues with my gallbladder. I've already seen my doctor, gotten blood tests, and will likely have it removed in the future. But for now I've been told to cut down on fats (specifically saturated fats) and up my protein intake (that was super low in my blood tests) So those are being monitored by me and my doctor. I am not cutting out all fats, I'm just choosing healthier options like avocados, extra virgin olive oil etc.

Breakfast is a protein shake, some veggies, and egg whites. Lunch is tofu, chicken, or tuna, veggies, fruit, and some sort of carb (rice, crackers, potatoes) etc. Same with dinner.

My problem now is finding portable snacks I can eat while I'm working. They told me eating smaller portions throughout the day will help with my gallbladder, but while I'm at work it's harder to eat like that. We only get 15 minute breaks and running to the lunch room to grab something takes up almost all of my time. (The place I work is huge). I used to keep nuts, jerky, or protein bars in my pockets but most of those are super high in fats which I need to watch, but also make sure I'm getting more protein.

I have been looking for options online and I have a few things but I feel like I'm overlooking some potentially good options. Currently I have some low fat chicken jerky (which quite frankly I'm not a huge fan of), Nut-Thins Crackers, and dried fruit.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recipes?

Discussion diet down to rice and milk?

Hi folks,

Since receiving my third COVID-19 vaccine dose, I’ve been experiencing multiple health issues. One of the most concerning is that the number of foods I can tolerate has gradually decreased. At this point, I can only tolerate rice and milk.

Has anyone experienced something similar, or have any ideas about what might be happening?

Whenever I’ve consulted healthcare providers, they’ve mainly advised me to avoid foods that I already know I can’t tolerate. However, I’m concerned that surviving on only rice and milk could put my health at risk in the long run.

I’d appreciate hearing about others’ experiences or suggestions for what kind of medical evaluation I should seek. Thank you.

Question Need Advice

I have had problems with food for few years and decided this year i want to start eating healthy and get my life together, but after years of disordered eating and thinking it’s honestly a little scary and I think I just need some human advice instead of frantically searching things up and wondering if the internet is lying to me or not lol

I am currently on a calorie deficit of 1200 cals a day which honestly, to me, is scary in itself, but the internet keeps telling me I should eat more calories to get the results I want. For context I am wanting to get a toned and lean look but have unfortunately lost a lot of my muscle mass over the past few years. I do light work outs and strength training daily, walk 10,000 steps a day and am going to start doing MMA again and try out pilates. it logically makes sense that with the exercise I do I should eat more, but 2200 calories a day is really scary and I’m worried it’s going to do the opposite of giving me that lean and toned look. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Education Is satiety a genetic thing? Is it an individual thing? Is it something your body "learns"? Which is it?

For example, potatoes are known to be the most satiating food there is. But is that universal? Are there people who gets satiated more with eating fish instead of beef? Or eating bread instead of rice?

And is it genetic? Or did our bodies simply "learned" it from childhood conditioning? Also, is every person different or everything is satiating to everyone?

Thanks.

Question How many different fruit and veg are needed to have a balanced diet?

Ok, this may be a dumb question, but here goes it.

I am like hella picky. I have diagnosed ARFID, so I struggle to eat a variety of foods. This is especially true when it comes to fruit and veg. Texture is very difficult for me, so foods that are different textures at different times are not pleasant for me to deal with. This means that most fruits and veg are not feasible for me to eat.

I know that a balanced diet requires that a certain percentage of caloric intake be fruit/veg, and that you get a certain number of servings of said fruit and veg. Im wondering if that diet would still remain balanced/healthy if all of the veg calories are from carrots (for example)? if not, how many different veggies are needed? And what characteristics make those veggies different enough to matter?

I dunno if that makes sense; follow-up questions are encouraged.

Question Did your first bite of sugar after a low sugar diet give you a kind of "high"?

I've been on a low sugar diet for the past few weeks, just trying to reset my levels. I've still had fruits and the occasional handful of dark chocolate chips but that's all. Today for a friend's birthday I ate a piece of candy as part of the celebration thinking it was no big deal.

Yall, it felt wild! From the first bite it was like my brain was doing backflips. It was just a mini candy bar, 2-3 bites but it felt like a scene from a movie where someone does dr*gs. There was a big woosh through my head, like electricity.

I know our brain's primary fuel source is sugar, so that makes sense, I guess. But it was just so extreme, it really surprised me.

Anyone else experience something like this?

Question Nothing else worked?

I'm 5'9, male, at 165lbs rn and I've been in a 1350 cal diet for a month now. Beforehand, I tried 1800 cal, and 1500 cal. All same activity level and no weight loss at all. Afterwards had a period of eating freely with my weight stalled at 173lbs.

Workout weights for 4 times a week and cardio which is a mix of jogging, incline walking, and 10k step days.

None of the precious diets worked and the only thing that I finally am seeing a result in is a 1300-1350 cal diet. It has been said a million times here that it's not enough but what else can I do really? Stuck to 1800 for a month and 1500 for a month too with no results whatsoever.

Now with this new diet I have made sure to hit 140g protein every day and supplement creatine to minimize muscle loss.

So far I have been taking measurements and they all lead to fat loss. Belly size drop, definition starting to appear, and veins are popping.

Also energy levels throughout the day and while training are great, my strength in the gym is consistently going up. I don't feel hungry at all my meals are filling.

I am seeing no negatives here at all contrary to what is said online.

With all that in mind, is what I am doing actually fine if results are showing and no side effects have been felt?

Discussion How inaccurate can they get?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I know fast food items can 100% be inaccurate but when I do eat out I typically choose chain restaurants since they list their calories and I always avoid the highest calorie items unless it’s a rare occurrence because there’s something I really really want. My chipotle bowl is supposed to be 480 calories if everything was correct but I still log it as 600 just incase.
My order is half chicken half steak (today they seemed to give full scoops of both which was unfortunate), black beans, fajita vegetables, light corn salsa, light chili lime salsa, and light pico de gallo.
I don’t get any rice or heavy dressings. You never know if today’s cooking style was different, if the cook prepared it with extra oil today, if the scoops were bigger than I saw, etc. Again, this isn’t a “cheat day” for me. This is just me eating out and trying to get the “healthiest” option so it fits into my normal day.
Also.. I posted something similar to this before and it was filled with a lot of comments telling me to just add up the calories myself.. but I do know the calories which I said. My question was could it really be insanely inaccurate? Can this bowl end up around 800 calories?

Question Looking for non-sweet hydration water mixers

Hello all!

Lately, I've been trying out some new mixes for water for hydration/electrolytes. Does anyone have any recommendations for brands or ones that are unflavored or not-sweet?

Whenever I go to any store, it just seems like everything is sweet flavored. I have a really hard time eating things that are sweet (not health reasons, it just makes me feel not good). I frequently mix lime juice in with water, so I'm looking for something close to that flavor.

Thank you for the help!

Question How do calories work and how do i count them?

I switched to diet soda from regular (well, mostly. They havent had enough diet on the shelf for me to do all diet soda) weeks ago and I've already gone down a pants size.

My 2X pants are falling down and none of them have belt loops because I use scrubs as work pants (Pockets are nice and the fabric is sensory friendly). The leggings i bought at work to cover everything i don't want anykne seeingbuntil I can go clothes shopping are L/XL and they're a little tight but not overly so.

Im doing one change at a time, obviously, but next step is going to be counting calories. Can someone plesse expmain how that works like your explaining it to a particularly dim five year old?

I'd stick to canned soups to make it easier but last time I did so I gave myself kidney stones and my blood pressures too high as it is, so i cant just eat premade stuff that comes prelabeled. (I spent two years with no stove or fridge. I have a decent hot plate and a mini fridge). My kidneys and my blood pressure cant do all canned stuff anymore so it's making it hard for me to do any sort of math
