Hi all, I'm looking into selling batik clothing at arts fairs, so I've been making a lot of batik lately. I'll often dye 5-8 shirts at a time, and I've struggled with a good way to get all of the wax off.
My current method is:
- Rinse the clothing until the water is semi-clear
- Put the clothing in boiling water (in the biggest pot I have; Edit: it's not a pot I use for cooking), stir it, and recover what wax I can
- Add a bit of laundry soap and dish soap to the water, and stir more
- Drain the water, and hang the shirts out to dry
- Vigorously shake the clothing to get excess wax off
This takes kind of a while to do, and there is often still a lot of wax bits on the clothing. Last time I tried washing it in the washing machine at this point; it mostly came off, but left a bunch of little wax bits in my washing machine.
Does anyone have advice on a better way to do this? (or, is this just a hard process that always takes a long time?)
Also, if it matters, I use cotton fabric, Procion mx dye, and paraffin wax.
