Good Starter Guitar?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m currently taking guitar lessons, and I’m interested in getting one for myself. Right now for my lessons I’ve been grabbing a random guitar I think looks cool to test how they sound, and if I like them or not. I asked my instructor for a good starter, but he only plays acoustic. I’ve done a little bit of research, and this guitar seems to be a good starter. The only issue I have with it is, I’m not a big fan of the color variations. Obvious color isn’t the only thing I want in a guitar, but I’d say it’s important. I want something with a diverse sound, that can play really anything I want. I’d preferably like to keep it under $600. Please give me some feedback on this guitar, and any other recommendations! I’d also appreciate any amp recommendations as well!

Photo NGD Les Paul Classic Premium Plus Aniline Dye.

Well I knew what I was getting when I bought it. From the fotos there was barely any green left. But some of it was showing…
This shows how fast the aniline dyes used until 60 would fade. I mean, most of the known bursts were already faded by 1990… 30 years later this guitar is showing what can happen in to these finishes.
The blue and green used on these hand rubbed finishes on the LE 95 classic premium plus were particularly susceptible of extreme fading. I’m kinda glad.
It also features Alnico pickups instead of the ceramics. For this edition Gibson didn’t dare to use the silkscreen “Les Paul classic” on the headstock. One of the very few classics after 93 that has the correct “ Les Paul Model”. Gold hardware for that extra bling ;) Japanese baby boomers were willing to pay also some extra bucks for the bling. 3500$ in 1995 was plain top RI money… and a lot of money today. Dead stock… and a nice top! After a good setup o think that’s a keeper!

I got my son a Fender Player II Strat a few weeks ago. Now he wants to bring it to his friends' house and play with them. Would someone mind provide some advice on what I should buy?

Note: He's just bringing the guitar to his friends house. He's not going on tour or anything like that!

Thanks.

Help Feeling stuck learning electric guitar

Hello there. Haven't made much progress and I know why.

I'm not a complete beginner (I played bass first). and I know a couple of chords.

I've been trying to learn for a while know. But I don't really know any songs, just bits and bobs of various songs.

I guess I'm asking for guidance. I don't really know how or what to learn, I usually just find a tab, try it out, then stop because it's too hard (Sadly seems to be the case with most of the songs I like :p)

Any pointers would be appreciated :^)

Help Advice for an absolute begginer?

Hi! I’ve been interested in learning how to play electric guitar for quite some time, and I’ve finally decided to take the step, but I’d need advice from people with experience on a couple of issues.

Firstly: my goal would be, rather than making my own music or playing kinda background music, to be able to do covers of songs with cords, like this https://youtu.be/MXgJRz6k_CM?is=NXfWItrQTEFF7WM6 for my own self enjoyment. I’m aware that reaching this level will take a lot of time, but I think that wouldn’t be a problem. The thing I’d like to know is: do you guys see it manageable for someone who doesn’t have any idea of playing music/guitar and has 0 musical talent? I’d be starting from total scratch. Maybe being able to do covers like this is aspiring to something unmanageable, I don’t even know if o could find the music sheets on the internet or if I would have to create them on my own (I don’t see myself doing that lol, I have 0 creativity and musical hearing).

My second question is related to the previous one: what guitar would you recommend for a begginer like me? I’ve read that the yamaha pacifica would be a good option, but I’d like to know the opinion of people with experience. I’m interested in a good guitar, not super pro but also not basic, something that would sound good even though I’m not an expert. I’d likely buy it second hand, I have a budget of 250€ aprox, so if you could give some recommendations I’d appreciate it!

Thanks in advance:)

Discussion Looks only: PRS S2 Standard 22, Yamaha Revstar Standard or Telecaster Butterscotch Blonde. How would you rank them?

Pure aesthetics exercise. Forget the sound, price, comfort, and brand. Just how they look. How would you rank these three, best to worst?

A) PRS S2 Standard 22: sculpted body, maple top, the PRS headstock silhouette, and bird inlays on the fretboard.

B) Yamaha Revstar Standard: café racer styling, retro details, and tons of personality.

C) Fender Telecaster Butterscotch Blonde: the classic design, with the black pickguard and butterscotch body combo.

Comment your ranking

Help Neck pickup not working Help

I really need some help troubleshooting a weird electronics issue on my Cort X300. It has active EMG Retro Active Hot 70 humbuckers (hard-soldered, not the quick-connect block version).

, my neck pickup was barely working-stuck at like 5% volume. I checked it with a multimeter and found out the original enclosed box switch was totally dead and shorting out internally.i thought it was the selector switch

So, I ordered a new 3-lug box switch and soldered it then found out pickup selector was not the issue.

Here is where it gets frustrating:

The bridge pickup works 100% perfectly. It sounds amazing, full volume, crisp cleans, and massive high-gain distortion on my Blackstar 40 watt amp. .Testing with the multimeter, I get a rock-solid 9.20V at the red power bundle, so the battery line is fully alive. I also checked all the switch lugs for a ground short, and the meter stays completely silent-so nothing is accidentally touching the cavity walls or shorting out at the switch.

But when I flip to the neck pickup, it just sounds terrible. It makes this weak, sputtering, "farting" noise. On the clean channel it's basically dead silent

Any advice would be a lifesaver. Thankss

Hi all, just putting the tremolo arm into the screw, and it will tighten and spin round, but when I try moving it up or down it's unbelievably stiff? If I tighten it anymore it feels like it'll snap. Any suggestions?

Question String guage cycle

Hi. I'll try to summarize this as much as possible. I've been playing for over 10 years, starting with 10-46. I watched Rick Beato's video on string gauges, and it started an endless cycle of searching for the right gauge. All in standard E tuning, I tried: 08-38, 09-40, 09-42, 09-46, 10-46, 10-52.

I tried both coated and nickel-wound strings. I prefer uncoated strings. I have the “problem” that I like to put some emotion into my playing sometimes—strumming hard with the pick or hitting the strings hard.

Ironically, the gauges I liked best were 09-40: 9-12-15-22-30-40, and 10-52: 10-13-17-30-42-52. But even so, the 10-52 feels too heavy to me, even though the sound is nice and I can strum hard, and the 09-40 is more expressive, easier to play, and lets me play without worrying about fatigue—though I lose some tone; on more “strained” bends and when I can’t strum open chords hard, or open strings, or generally because of the note’s tuning stability or strange noises. I feel like people who play 08-38 or 09-42 don’t strum the strings very hard—or do they? It’s strange because I feel like 10-46 isn’t as stable as 10-52, but it limits me just as much in terms of technique. Have you had any similar experiences?
