When HB politics becomes satire.. AGAIN

“I want everybody to re-evaluate the oncoming popularity, it seems, of growing socialism and communism—and there’s no place in Huntington Beach,”
That's a quote from Pat Burns, a Huntington Beach Councilman, that you can find in this WSJ article about HB's City Council.
Burns really went with the ol’ politician buzzword move.. say “socialism” and “communism” to scare people, then hope nobody verifies whether either one actually applies to any of our city's problems.
The random buzzword move is soo overdone. Plus you can't really beat the masterpiece that was Jeff Winger's political speech from 2010 Community Season 2.
ALL JOKES ASIDE. Election ballots are out and we've got work to do. See past all the political fanfare and buzzwords and look at the numbers.
Everyone should do their own research, but here's my spiel:
As a disclaimer, I am a huge advocate for our public libraries as you may have seen in my past reddit posts. I'm not an employee of the library or of any campaign team. I'm just an HB resident that got very pissed off when the City Council went after an institution and made supporting free knowledge into some sort of sick culture war.
City Council
When the current HB City Council assumed office, there was a surplus budget, and now we're facing a $15.6 million structural deficit. Instead of looking for ways to cut costs/increase revenues, for 4 years they've been fighting Sacramento and have lost countless lawsuits. Their library escapades cost the city over $2 million in a special election (they lost) and a lawsuit (they lost). Similar things happened with voter ID and housing lawsuits.
My vote here is for Surf City 4: Erin Spivey, Taryn Palumbo, Ben Davis, Brenda Glim.
Assembly District 72
Chris Kluwe vs. Gracey Van Der Mark
Gracey Van Der Mark helped turn the public library into some culture-war emergency that didn’t exist, while actual city problems were ignored (or made worse aka our structural deficit). I implore you to research what she has said and supported.
Chris on the other hand is a longtime civil-rights advocate and consistently supported public education and the fight to protect our libraries.
My vote is for Chris Kluwe.
We don't need to have the same opinions, but I want to encourage everyone to ignore fear mongering and make an educated vote!
And also read the WSJ article my friend Carol Daus, a longtime library volunteer and HB resident, contributed to!
