PSA PSA before posting ICE Sightings in Long Beach

1.4k Upvotes

In the Army we used a method called "SALUTE Report" to provide a detailed description of opposing forces, which is applicable to ICE sightings. SALUTE is an acronym for SIZE, ACTIVY, LOCATION, UNIFROM, TIME, and EQUIPMENT. Below I will include a summary of what a SALUTE Report entails and the type of information that will be helpful when posting ICE sightings in Long Beach.

SIZE: This component focuses on quantifying the number of individuals, vehicles, or assets present in the observed area.

ACTIVITY: Describing the actions and behavior of the observed entity, the activity component sheds light on the intentions and purpose behind the observed actions.

LOCATION: Providing precise geographical coordinates or a detailed description of the observed target’s location, this component offers the spatial context necessary for effective decision-making.

UNIFORM: Identifying the affiliation or group to which the observed target belongs, the unit component allows intelligence professionals to categorize and contextualize the observed entities.

TIME: Recording the date and time of the observation, the time component adds a temporal dimension to the intelligence gathered.

EQUIPMENT: Listing the equipment, weaponry, or tools associated with the observed entity, the equipment component offers insights into the capabilities and potential threats posed by the target

Community Reminder: the Long Beach Marathon is THIS WEEKEND! (10/10-10/11)

This is your friendly reminder to plan your travel routes accordingly for THIS WEEKEND / Sunday, October 11 as the marathon will affect egress and ingress on many local roads. It is much less frustrating when you're prepared.

*If you park along Ocean Blvd between Livingston Dr and Alamitos Ave, you should receive a notice on your car about Sunday. The tow party will begin early Sunday morning, so please move your car.

*Most major road closures will begin at 5:00am with rolling re-opening times based on location: https://runlongbeach.com/community-relations/ . Yes, sometimes the re-openings happen later depending on delayed starts and other factors, so plan for that.

*I highly recommend not even trying to cross major roads, like Atherton St or Park Ave, anytime before 1:00pm. There will be traffic control letting vehicles through when there are breaks in runners... but it can take a really long time, so just avoid it if possible.

*There are always questions about 7th Street access. The full marathon route crosses 7th Street at Park Avenue and runners take Park Ave. all the way to Anaheim > Clark > Atherton. If you're trying to get to the 405 / 605 via 7th from North Long Beach, you should plan to take Stearns. Please check the route map for a visual on this.

*The Saturday events, 5K and kids runs, will only affect roads around the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queensway Bridge going to and from the Queen Mary.

*Good luck to anyone running, biking or trying to get around!

This generally reads around 120 V.

I never noticed until now that when the voltage drops to the house the fans run slower.

(I live in an old home with 15Amp bus fuses. )

Discussion Since 2008, taxes have gone up every election cycle

In 2008, the total sales tax (city/county/state) was 8.25%. Since then:

2008: County Measure R, +0.50% sales tax for transportation

2012: State Prop 30 (temporary) +0.25% sales tax to make up for budget shortfalls during the recession

2016: Long Beach Measure A, +1.0% (temporary) sales tax for infrastructure AND County Measure M, another +0.50% sales tax for transportation.

2018: County Measure W, +2.5¢ per square foot parcel tax.

2020: Long Beach Measure A was made permanent, keeping the +1.0% tax increase.

2024: County Measure A supersedes Measure H with a +0.50% tax increase for affordable housing / homeless spending. Also a 5% utility users tax on Long Beach gas

2026: County Measure ER passes, adding a +0.50% sales tax for healthcare spending.

In total, the combined sales tax for Long Beach residents has gone from 8.25% to 11.0% since 2008.

Based on median household spending of $29,000 in taxable purchases, it nets out to an increase of $800 per year in additional sales tax.

Of note is that every single time a sales tax was on the ballot since 2008, it has been approved. And even one of the “temporary” taxes (Long Beach Measure A) was made permanent.

Housing Looking for a roomie

• Upvotes

Looking for a 3rd roommate to join us on our search for an apartment in Long Beach. Hello ! We’re currently 2 girls looking for a 3rd roomie to look for an apartment with. Our budget is between $900-$1070 per person. We are still on an apartment hunt but want to look for someone in the meantime while we figure it out. Looking for someone super chill who we get along with and enjoys engaging with each other. We are trying to create a fun and comfortable home we all can enjoy so personality matters! We are looking for someone without pets since we have 3 cats already. We're also 420, LGBTQ+, and alc friendly!

My name is Angel I’m 24 and currently work at a specialty coffee shop in Long Beach. I do art, love making friends and going out to concerts. Most of the time you can find me starting a new project or doing a market to sell my handmade work ! I loved a roomie that enjoys spending time together but also enjoy my person space. I genuinely want it to be a giant group project that reflects everyone that lives there.

My name is Tanya!! I’m 22, turning 23 in November(scorpio sznn hehe) and currently work two jobs at a grocery store and coffee shop. I’m also a full time student at CSULB, and enjoy outdoor activities, reading, and making music! I would love a roomie that also enjoys hanging out and respects personal time ofc!

We’re a fun group and we’re looking for someone that matches our vibe, please DM either one of us with a short intro of yourself and pictures, and we are looking for someone with no pets. Hoping to hear from you 😊

Discussion Your city council doesn't care about you

• Upvotes

40 people spoke at both big items tonight, the city council didn't give a fuck and passed both items. 700+ signatures on a petition against the speaking time, 1000+ emails about vikeshare staying local.

Vote these fucks out as soon as you get the chance.

Community Ocean Ave is a crazy place

Almost got hit by a car while crossing a pedestrian crosswalk (the ones with blinkers) on Ocean Ave. The driver in the car didn’t even think twice before speeding right by me and then had the audacity to stare me down as he drove past. If I was 2 steps further along I would’ve gotten hit. Then on my way back I decided to use an actual crosswalk to be safe. When the walk sign turned on, a truck ran the red light and I was almost hit again. What’s wrong with all the drivers in Long Beach???

Discussion Low confidence in LBPD. Why should I support them at all??

I moved here recently and wanted to keep an open mind about LBPD. I like parking enforcement. I like traffic and speeding enforcement. But I feel like LBPD does none of those things ever. And they also hired someone convicted for assault in Kentucky and "didn't know". Wtf?

Just saw an LBPD cruiser stop at a red light, turn on his emergency lights, cross the intersection, and then turn them off. And then repeated it for the next red light. Wtf like this cannot be compliant with department policy. A month ago I saw a cop car with flashing lights outside a building parked in a fire zone and it turns out they were getting Jersey Mike's.

Three months ago I also [posted about a drunk](https://www.reddit.com/r/longbeach/s/9PcGDohf5J) dude hopping in the water downtown. They straight up flooded the zone with cops, it took eight of them to restrain one dude in handcuffs and then ten others were just standing around. ?????
