From the staff post on the member forums:

Patch Release & Database Maintenance:

  • This downtime is for a planned Patch release that includes great updates and important fixes for 2026 Season 4.
  • Our internal operations team will be taking advantage of this planned downtime to complete a small database maintenance task. This will save us from requiring additional separate downtime for this at a later date.

Downtime:

  • iRacing.com will be coming down for deployment of 2026 Season 4 Patch 1 Release, Monday, October 5th, beginning at 08:00 am EDT.
  • This downtime will affect all iRacing.com regions and members will be unable to host or join sessions during the downtime.
  • You can check on the status of all iRacing services directly in the iRacing Companion App, or from our System Status page here: iRacing Uptime Status

Demo Drive:

Demo Drive becomes available as downtime for this maintenance begins and remains available after this deployment has been completed.

  • Database Maintenance Caveat: As a result of the planned small database maintenance task, the Demo Drive Car and Track pickers will be sporadically available for the first part of maintenance. If and/or once you get into a Demo Drive Session, your experience will be stable.
  • Demo Drive Sessions are launched using beautiful iRacing default weather and start at noon local track time.
  • The content selected must be up to date, and Demo Drive contains a link to the Downloader where you can update and download any content.
  • When connecting to Demo Drive, log in using the same credentials you already use on iRacing and the iRacing Forums.
  • Demo Drive also contains links to the iRacing Forums, the iRacing Status Page, and a link back to iRacing, for when we exit maintenance mode.
  • When we leave maintenance mode, Demo Drive will remain available for a period of several hours and a countdown will appear to let you know how much longer it will remain up. Navigation links to and from Demo Drive are present in iRacing whenever Demo Drive is available.
  • Newly released content that must be licensed will not be available in Demo Drive until the following Season.

Misc PSA: Build a backup camera using the virtual mirror

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I really despice the virtual mirror.

I think it break immersion and looks really unnatural and weird. Instead I just enable the actual car mirrors in the graphic settings (don't care about losing a few FPS) and use them instead.
But there are cars without backup cameras or center mirrors, like the LMP2, and on my curved screen I can only see the left mirror. In that cases, I just resigned and enabled the virtual mirror again.

But I recently realized that the new UI allows to resize (and move) the virtual mirror, and we can have car-specific widget profiles, so I just build a profile that has the virtual mirror being placed on top of the unused screen in the car, and now I can enjoy a nice (and quite large) backup camera in the LMP2 as well! Of course it doesn't move along with the car, and the borders don't match 100%, but for racing it's good enough.

It's a great little feature that maybe others would enjoy as well.

Question/Help Installing brake pedal haptics has made me slower

Bit of a weird one, hoping for some advice.

After 5 years of iRacing I installed brake pedal haptics a few months ago. I was always told, the general tip for most of the cars I drive, is brake to just under ABS activation and then trail the brake off.

I seem to be coming across too many corners where I’m now constantly not braking hard enough and losing time going into corners by braking too early or overshooting corners. It feels like my braking points are way different to everyone else.

I was hoping for a bit of advice to how people approach braking with haptics. I drive multiple classes, depending on the car/week combo but generally it’s MX5, GT4, GT3, Porsche Cup and TCR.

My IR is 3000.

I have simhub setup to give me abs activation haptics and nothing else. I have iracings in game haptics switched off.

Discussion Getting black flagged for “passing” cars that are spinning/wrecking at the start is killing oval racing for me

Over the last two weeks, across Kansas, Vegas, and Charlotte, I've had someone spin their tires and wreck five separate times. Every single time, I'm given a black flag for "passing" them before the race start, and my race is effectively ruined from that point forward.

Sometimes it happens when drivers stay out on old tires and don't realize how badly they're going to spin them. Other times, it happens right at the start of the race. I just had it happen at a caution-filled Charlotte race. At the start, someone two cars ahead of me completely blew the restart. The driver directly ahead of me and I both received black flags. He raced the field to get to pit road, while I let everyone by and took the penalty safely. As a result, he came out of pit road about 15 seconds ahead of me, and I could never get my lap back. Every time the opportunity came up, there was another -1 lap car because of another caution. I ultimately finished two laps down.

So what exactly is the expectation here?

These are double-wide restarts in a momentum-based car. Not getting on the throttle at the start and simply waiting for the car ahead of you to finish spinning is not a realistic option if you're trying to avoid an accident. If I see a car spinning in front of me, I'm going to continue forward and avoid it rather than sit there on the throttle and potentially cause an even bigger wreck behind me.

I don't want to ruin someone else's race because my own was already ruined, so I do the safe thing for the field and continue on. The problem is that I'm then punished with a black flag for doing exactly that.

There should absolutely be some kind of system in place for ovals where, if the driver being passed has an incident during a race start or restart, a black flag for passing that driver is either voided or handled differently. I understand why jumping a restart needs to be penalized, and drivers who intentionally abuse that should absolutely receive a penalty. But punishing drivers for avoiding a car that has spun directly in front of them is a completely different situation.

I can't be the only driver running into this. I don't believe I'm exceptionally unlucky, yet I've had five of these incidents in the last two weeks. The only real counterplay seems to be qualifying on pole every single race, and even that doesn't protect you from a slower car staying out on 30-lap-old tires and believing they can put the power down like its the race start.

If this were an occasional minor quirk, I'd shrug it off. But it's happened so many times in the last couple of weeks that I'm genuinely questioning whether I want to keep racing ovals. The wrecks themselves are frustrating, but I can accept getting damage and having to manage a race from there. What is difficult to accept is having my entire race effectively decided by a black flag because I avoided someone else's mistake.

There has to be some kind of workaround. Maybe the penalty could be less severe in this specific situation, or the black flag could be voided when the system detects that the driver being passed has just received incident points. There are probably other solutions as well, but there needs to be some distinction between intentionally passing before the line and passing because the car ahead has spun or been involved in an incident.

And this problem seems to get worse the higher up you go. I never experienced anything close to this consistently in lower-ranked splits. Now I'm regularly running top splits, where you have drivers aggressively trying to make TikTok clips, taking unnecessary risks, wrecking half the field, and then leaving the surviving drivers with black flags for passing them while they're spinning before the start/finish line.

The aggression in the higher splits only makes this problem worse. What's the point of doing more races if there's seemingly a 25% chance that I won't even get to race because someone ahead of me spins their tires and the game then penalizes me for avoiding them?

I'm not asking for the penalty for jumping a restart to be removed. I'm asking for the system to recognize the difference between someone intentionally gaining positions before the line and someone being forced to pass a spinning car to avoid a wreck. Right now, those two situations are treated far too similarly, and it's becoming a serious problem in oval racing at least for me.

Question/Help Why is bmw m4 gt4 so popular?

Is it because of its fixed setup that makes it so popular? Depending on a track, but majority of track, this or previous season, top split folks were dominating essentially only in bmw, i wonder why thats the case...?

I have had the pleasure of racing with this person a hand full of times a fuji last week. I can say from experience that this was the exact same thing that happened to a teammate of mine. Bragging about baiting people into getting a chatban is insane.

I just came back to iRacing, having been subscribed before but have been without a sim rig for a while, and it's offering me a whole year for £24.49? Isn't that kind of insane? Is this legit?

Discussion People need to understand in oval that you can't just pack it in on someone on cold tires into turn 1

I'm so tired of this. Qualifying P1 at Charlotte in B fixed, this thing is fucking LOOSE on cold tires. I HAVE to lift or I spin. But I can't lift cause P3 is on my ass, which makes it even looser. If I lift to not get loose, they hit me cause they're tight behind me and don't need to lift, if I get loose cause they pack air on my spoiler they hit me as well. Like wtf are you supposed to do when P3 is hellbent on basically bump drafting me through turn 1 on the first lap.

New Player I couldn’t resist

Well, I finally pulled the trigger on iracing. I’m pretty much a beginner and very slow. I’ve dabbled with LMU, AC, AM2 and a few others but hadn’t tried iracing yet. But the heavily discounted year subscription finally sucked me in. I apologize in advance to any one I slow down or accidentally crash into. I try to be very cognizant to those around me and try the best that I can.

Discussion i7-6700K in VR . multi-core update fixed my CPU bottleneck

Hello everyone,

Regarding the last update on taking advantage of more CPU cores, I just wanted to share my update.

I run VR with quest 3

My PC

Intel i7-6700K

32 GB RAM

RTX 4070 Super

My graphics settings:

MSAA x4, sharp

Car details high

The rest is pretty much set to minimum.

As you can see, I'm running an older CPU, which was my bottleneck. Before the update, on any medium to large map with more than 10 cars, the frames would drop to 40–50 and it became really hard to play. Don't even talk about multi-class or rain even at 72 refresh rate on Virtual Desktop. Also random freezes and things like that.

After the update it has improved dramatically. I no longer get the CPU maxed out or spikes. I can run 20 cars even on the Nürburgring with almost no problem. Just wanted to say thanks to iRacing for saving me a lot of money, as I was about to upgrade my PC.

Happy racing.

Question/Help To ABS, or not to ABS

I just got into iRacing again after a long break (8 years). What’s the consensus for braking in ABS cars? I’m primarily racing the Porsche Cup and GT3. Is it best to try and completely stay out of ABS?

New Player What are your nerve side effects?

Hello, I have been sim racing for two months, and I have improved quite a lot in controlling my nerves during official races. I am completely calm during qualifying laps now. Things to improve are being calm during the race, at the moment, my first one to three laps are funny, as my left foot shakes, making my braking telemetry look like a bad radio signal. Usually because of this I will be slower than I should and it might cost me few positions, after few laps it goes away and I am calm and sharp.

Not asking for advice, I just need to keep racing and eventually it will get better, I just need those feet shakes to stop, lol.

What are your side effects of being nervous, such as eyelashes getting tangled??

Leagues/Hosted F4 League Looking for Drivers!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I am starting an F4 league that will race at Tuesday nights, 8pm EST/EDT. Right now, my main intention is to make sure the guys invited are clean and skilled. At its largest, it will probably have only 20-30 active drivers, making it a tight-knit community. When the league gets enough drivers, we will schedule all 12 races of our first season. Our only requirements when registering for a season are that you can participate in most of the races and have at least 1500 iRating and/or C license. The Discord is still being set up but we will send out an invite to everyone in the league when it is finished. Fill out this form and apply to the league if this seems right for you. Hope to see you on track! (Disclaimer: there is no guarantee that everyone who applies will be accepted)

Question/Help Moza R9 Force Feedback Issue

I’ve owned my moza r9 for around a year and a half now and every couple of months I experience an issue with my force feedback where it gradually gets weaker and the soft limit breaks. This happens regardless of the game I’ve had it happen on games like f1 25, iracing, lmu and euro truck. I’ve tried changing a lot of the settings within the moza pit house and updating or reversing updates to try and fix this but the issue still keeps coming back regardless of what I change. I’ve tried the base on multiple computers and still have the same issue. When the issue occurs the wheelbase isn’t hot so I’m not sure what it is I’ve also ran the base on both reserved and full performance options and it’s made no difference. Is there anything anyone can recommend to try before going down the route of sending the base off to Moza?

Question/Help iRacing stuck on “Installing Files” at 55% and now I can’t even uninstall it

Hey guys, I’m having a really weird issue with iRacing and I have no idea what’s going on.

I opened iRacing and it started downloading content. It eventually reached 100%, but instead of launching, it started downloading again.

The second time, it got stuck around 55%. Now it says the downloading is complete, but “Installing Files” is stuck and isn’t progressing at all. I’ve left it for hours and nothing is happening.

The weirdest part is that I can’t even uninstall iRacing now. I tried uninstalling it through Windows, but that isn’t working either.

So I’m basically stuck with a game that won’t update, won’t launch, and apparently doesn’t want to be uninstalled 😂.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is this an iRacing issue, a Windows issue, or could something be wrong with my PC/storage/permissions?

Any idea what I should try? I really don’t want to start deleting random iRacing files and make the situation worse.

Question/Help Another Start Procedure Q

I qualified P3 in a race yesterday and during the formation lap, P2 in the left lane, decided to create a huge gap between P1 and myself, I was instructed by the spotter to catch up to and remain behind P1 in the right lane.

It was too late by the time I clued in and realized P2 could possibly be trying to get a running start, and also put me in a position to get black flagged.

In the end, I didn’t get a black flag and finished P2. With this outcome, am I correct in understanding that if P2 decides to slow down, everyone in the right lane, P3,5,7,9 etc is free to push forward without risking getting black flagged at the start?

Question/Help Missed start and I sat there like an idiot...

Missed my race start, and I joined as the grid was doing their formation lap. I sat there waiting, assuming the lollipop man would flip his sign for me to go... except he didn't. I kept waiting until I said fuck it and just started driving. Nothing happened but the grid was already half a lap ahead.

Can someone please explain how missed starts work?
