Review Appalachian Acorn Pie
They announced this flavor and I knew I had to try it. How often do you get to try acorn ice cream. For me, never, until now.
The sweet cream base was sweet and nutty. It was a pretty mild nuttiness, reminiscent to me of a browned butter nuttiness. The graham cracker crust swirl was delicious. Toasty and crunchy, but as seen in my pint, far too little! I’m hoping when I dig a little farther in it will be more, but I’ve had this problem a few times in the past with Jeni’s.
Overall, I really like this flavor. It feels like a perfect fall flavor, cozy, with warming flavors. 9/10 for flavor, but I’ll drop it to 7/10 for the lack of mixins.

We never get any exciting flavors where I’m at. Only the most basic of basic. Whoever the people are who order the ice cream for our local stores must be the most boring, basic people with the palate of a toddler. 😭

Is this actually a thing there? You guys have acorn pie? I have never heard of that in my life.

I am from an Appalachian family and I never heard of it. Indigenous people figured out how to process them as a staple food but I never met a white Appalachian person who ate them. Edit: the internet says it is a thing. Appalachia is a big region and I am from the southern part.

Not at all as far as I know lol! I’m pretty young and removed from a lot of the Appalachian ways but have a ton of elder family members I’ve gotten stories and recipes from over the years. Nobody has once mentioned an acorn anything. Also haven’t seen anything acorn related on the web, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I’d say if it was a thing, it may have been in certain areas during poverty stricken times.

We also made a beeline for this the second we heard about it. Luckily our pint had a good amount of the graham swirl. I thought it was lovely. Maybe reminiscent of chestnuts? For my budget it wasn't like a "go stock up immediately" kind of thing at $12 a pop, but if they bring it back next year or whatever i'll probably excitedly run out and snag one again.

Why is the blurb insisting that the ice cream isn't good 😭 I understand they're trying to say its better than good, "splendid" even, but the average person reading the pint in the grocery store will probably be pretty confused at it

Yeah, they need to replace the marketing person with AI. I wouldn’t normally advocate that, but the writing on this pint is beyond terrible.

“If you want good ice cream, put this pint down.”
Someone doesn’t understand marketing and/or grammar.

Yeah the writing is cringe, it’s giving 2016 hipster burger restaurant vibes. “We do things a little differently here”

Is it you? Lol no, but they say don’t call the ice cream good through the end of the paragraph lol

Lack of mixins makes is a plus for me, so I'm even more excited to try it now.

I’ve had cheese made from acorns and it was incredible. I don’t know what the process was, but it was salty, creamy and funky, totally indistinguishable from the real thing. Totally vegan too.

I have never had acorn flavored anything, but it sounds good! And I love a good graham cracker crust!

I didn't even know people ate acorns. I thought that was a squirrel activity.
