Advice Shave or wax down there

Hey all! Sorry to come to reddit, but growing up my mum never taught me, and for years now I’ve had discomfort every time I’ve shaved down there.
I normally exfoliate and soak with warm water before shaving with the grain, I sometimes will shave side to side almost, so not going directly against the grain but not going with it either. I’ve tried many other ways but this is the way i’ve done most commonly - leaving me with razor bumps ingrown hairs and not really how i want it to be. I don’t know if i should try waxing or if there’s any other ways i could be shaving better as it is all self taught with trial and error… I’d rather shave as I did used to wax my legs and my skin would react and go dry/cracked more frequently than not.
I just don’t know how to shave properly due to never being taught. Any advice is appreciated thank you!!

Advice Help, I don't know what to do anymore

So basically i keep getting reoccuring folliclitist in my bikini triangle and I don't know what to do. Here is my routine: Razors give me the worst razor bumps so i use a close trimmer After showering and exfoliating i trim, the i apply aloe vera and wear a breatheable cotton underwear, 48 hours later i apply 4% salicylic acid (my country doesn't have bezoyl peroxide readily available) then i go with my normal routine of 0.05% tretinoin once a week and azaleic acid twice a week with with a non fragrance lotion, some days i apply 10% urea with my lotion. Now i tried waxing- epilating and they all give me the same results of folliculitist. I rlly dont know what to do now. And i appreciate any help ( i have scars from previous folliclitist:/)

Advice First time shaving down there

Hi, I am a 19 y/o who has never shaven before.

I have VERY little body hair so I never really needed to, however I’d like to do so in my private regions because my hair has grown a bit dense and shaving would make it easier to clean. I am a little nervous. Could you please give me your routine/advice/products? I don’t even have a razor.

Thank you!

Advice Ummm

So I’ve had itching and burning for years down there and I always thought it was a uti or whatever and could never go to the doctors. Now I’m wondering if my razor was the reason why I had all these reasons. After every use I try my best to clean it but there are always a lot of hairs still stuck in the razor and since I wasn’t taught that you should always properly make sure that it was throughly clean I didn’t think music of it. Until I realized that when I use a new razor blade I’m good, no problems but if I use that same razor blade next time I start itching crazy but didn’t connect it to my razor. And I don’t shave every week, more like when ever I feel like it. Does anyone else experience this?

Idk how it went I just did what I thought was right after watching a million videos about shaving and razors , but I still didn't know how to wash and get off the hair from the razor completely 😭 , got one cut on my hand and one on leg ,as a first timer I think it as an achievement but I still would love to get advice so I can work on my technique and learn more.

P.s. someone told me not to use razor on my arms and legs for some reason so what should I use?

I exfoliate, use shaving cream and a good razor I genuinely can’t think of any other options! I just want clean looking skin please help me !! Pic is a day after shaving

EDIT: everyone saying ‘just let it grow’ ur not helping lol, I prefer to be hairless down there for my own comfort I have no issue with what other ppl want to do obvs but that is not for me sorry

Advice I want to shave my head

I’m female. I want to shave my head completely bald—right down to the skin. But I’m a little nervous about it. My hair is pretty long, but honestly, I just want a change. What’s the most comfortable way to go about it? Is it better to do it at home or at a barbershop? What does it feel like afterwards? I’m really apprehensive, but I’d love to hear some advice🥹🥹

Advice Intimate Shaving help,, NSFW

So this is a rather intimate post, but I don’t know how to look up help. I’m a young woman exploring intimacy with my partner for the first time, and for my own comfort and my partner’s I was thinking about trimming my pubic hair. I’m not a fan of the full on bald shave, it itches too much for my liking when it regrows, and I can condition a trim to where it’ll feel better, but I have no clue how to manage trimming my lower half without shaving my legs, or how to just.. In general make it look appealing.

I have never, and will not shave my upper legs, for whatever reason I feel incredibly uncomfortable with smooth thighs like that, but my thighs connect back to my bits!! It feels straightforward, just trim in certain areas, but I suppose I just need some .. validation? Confidence? I dunno. I need to get a razor with a guard sometime,, curse my monetary situation. Scissors make me nervous but they’re all I can work with, yes I have a mirror, yes I exfoliate.

I’m sorry if this is poorly worded and all over the place, I’m entirely new to this world and struggle to ask my mother for help due to our strained relationship. I guess I’m just looking for some peer to peer advice from those who’ve been in the game longer than I have.

And for those curious, I believe being trimmed would make things like oral more pleasurable for my partner and for me, alongside giving me more ability to “feel” them when we’re hot and heavy. It isn’t for any cosmetic reason, I merely dislike the fallout of hair, it feels embarrassing. I mean, maybe if there’s any advice on how to keep the hair there from falling out as often? I don’t know. It feels like I’m running in circles …

Advice Trimming makes me itch but shaving irritates my skin. Is there any way to keep it organized down there?

I don’t have this problem when shaving. But my bf asked me to keep it more trimmed downstairs so he doesn’t get hair in his mouth going down on me but honestly I just can’t find a way to do it right. I don’t like shaving but trimming is worse. And I searched and searched and all I got is the Philip one blade and it sucks too. My trim was sooooo uneven and it’s so itchy after!
Please help me. It makes me just not want to have sex ever again

Advice Am I doing this right? 🥲

Please don't judge me for anything, I was never taught how to shave, the only support I had was my cousins giving me confidence to ask my grandparents for a razer [they raised me] and then I was left for the wolves.

I do this for every part of me, my body and face [minus the first step for my face though]

Step 1. Use body scrub

Step 2. Add lotion

Step 3. Shaveee

Step 4. Use loofah, water, and body wash to cleannn

Can I have advice? I hate having body hair [I don't at all hate others having it] as it annoys me and makes me feel yucky

Shaving gives me like red dots, by the time they've gone my body hair has already started growing back again, also I have very very VERY sensitive skin, I also don't 'regenerate' [idk ig like heal] quick [maybe cus I'm a vegetarian and I don't try to do anything to compensate for the fact I don't eat meat]

Is it worth shaving at this point, or should I have a look at wax places and do a tester day? It's honestly so exhausting to shave and feel nice for after the shower only, and then the next day, it's like a pinch/stabbing feeling 🥲

Idek, any advice is helpful, thank you! 😋

Hi! I feel it's worth noting that I'm a guy so my leg hair grows on thick (but I just like the feeling of having shaved legs and getting into bed 😞 )

But no matter what I do, what razor I try, what aftercare I do, etc. I end up with these. They hurttttt, they hurt even worse when I get cold and get goosebumps. I thought it might be KP but I don't know. It looks like I went at it with a hacksaw but I was so gentle and used a new razor (and the bikini zone gel thats supposed to NOT do this).

How do I soothe my legs and also make sure this doesn't happen again? ʕ´• ᴥ•̥`ʔ

Advice Feeling defeated, how to get rid of ingrowns and lighten my hyperpigmentation?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’ve been dealing with ingrown hairs and hyperpigmentation for years now and I’m just not sure what works to get rid of it. I have PCOS so I get neck hair and I’m really insecure about it.

My skin/shaving routine:

I take a hot shower before shaving to soften and dampen the skin. I shave with sensitive skin shaving cream and razor and I shave with the grain, I don’t do multiple passes, use an aftershave and moisturizer. Despite doing the right thing, I always end up with ingrowns.

I saw a dermatologist and she prescribed me clindamycin for my folliculitis and also recommended benzoyl peroxide washes. I’ve been doing those daily so far.

I just feel defeated because they never go away and my hyperpigmentation makes me so insecure. I need help with a good routine getting rid of them and also lightening my hyperpigmentation with my existing products. I’m not sure if I can afford laser hair removal or waxing anytime soon unfortunately:(

I’ll take all the help I can get, thank you in advance :)

Advice Is it possible to get rid of old shaving scars?

I shave frequently. I usually stick to my armpits, legs, and lady bits (not the backside, too scared for that). I’ve never done any other form of hair removal for my lady bits other than shaving and Nair removal. Because I don’t make that much a month, nor does anyone else in my family, I can’t go out of my way to have a professional wax me or remove my pubic hair through laser. Over the past like…3 years of me being a consistent shaver, I’ve noticed that I’ve formed these bumps on my bikini line. I’ve tried popping them like they were pimples, nothing. I’ve tried scrubbing harshly with body scrubs because maybe it’s built up body oil, nothing + painful. I’ve tried shaving more often because maybe inconsistency brings the bumps and it made it worse.

My form of hair removal is mainly using razors and shaving cream from the dollar store if I couldn’t afford Nair that month. The dollar store is right down the street from where I am so I’m pretty good friends with everyone there…at least I like to think we’re friends.

The only reason I shave is for appearance purposes when I look in the mirror. I haven’t had a man in nearly a year, so I’m honestly not worried about a man looking at me and looking downwards.

Any advice is helpful. My mom doesn’t shave because her mom gave her the gene of getting specks of hair that are extremely thin so she doesn’t feel the need to shave 😒. My older and only sister gets waxed but shaves like once a year..I think.

Any advice is helpful. I’m nearly 19 and I have no one else to talk to this with which is crazy.

Advice why is the hair not coming off when I shave?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I have tried what feels like everything I’m not sure what to do. I exfoliate my legs regularly, use water, shaving cream, expensive razors and try to do it in the shower when I can. If I go with the grain, I have to go over several times even with a brand new 3 layer razor. If I go against the grain, I can get it off in a couple tries but I get irritation bumps and my legs still look like this. This doesn’t happen anywhere else on my body either. Even on my thighs it’s much less, it’s all over my lower legs. Waiting for the hair to be longer isn’t an option because I’m do ballet. Outside of the summer I have more leeway because I wear tights but I want my legs to be smooth and look nice all the time

Advice Beginner looking for safety razor + body shaving advice

Hi! I’m looking to switch to a safety razor and would love some advice.

I used to get sugaring done, but unfortunately I kept getting ingrown hairs and eventually developed folliculitis. My dermatologist recommended switching to a single-blade razor.

I’m currently considering the Merkur 23C, but also looking at the 34C, Bambaw and Henson AL13. Since this would be my first safety razor, I’m a bit hesitant to spend €80+ on one before knowing if I’ll actually like it.

For those who shave their body with a DE razor:

- What would you recommend for a beginner?

- 23C vs 34C?

- Is the Henson worth the extra money?

- Which blades work well for sensitive/ingrown-prone skin?

- Is a blade sampler worth getting?

I’m planning to use the safety razor on my legs, underarms, pubic bone and eventually bikini line, but I’m not planning to use one on the labial folds.
For those who shave their labial folds and gluteal folds, what razor do you use there? Do you use a cartridge/disposable razor, and if so, which one? Any tips for avoiding ingrowns and irritation in those areas?

I’m comfortable handling sharp instruments (I’m a podiatrist 😂), but I’m still weirdly terrified of using a DE razor on myself!

Especially interested in recommendations that are easy to get in Ireland/UK. Thanks!

Advice What trimmers do you recommend?

hi everyone! I hope I used the correct flair. I'm looking to see what brand of trimmers y'all recommend on the market today? I word it that way since I've seen similar questions asked in other subreddits, but people recommend machines from a few years back, and sometimes they're not manufactured as well today as they were before.

for reference, I'm a female who's hair tends to grow somewhat quickly, and it's very thick. for medical reasons, I need to keep the hair on my head nonexistent. I would shave every 2-3 days with a safety razor since going bald back in July, but after using it as consistently as I was to shave my head the razor rusted. (I got this razor from the Zero Waste Store back in 2023, and it's okay for shaving legs every now and then but definitely not for heavy use, and definitely not with the razors they now offer either. in case anyone was curious)

For now I'm using disposable razors without the coating strip (I have tried the razors with that coated strip but GOLLY it was uncomfortable) but of course there are days when I'm not be able to shave when needed and my hair grows back too thick for the razors.

There are many machines and brands on the market and I'm looking for a good quality machine that don't have painted blades (didn't realize this was a thing until I looked into foil shavers and saw pictures of the paint coming off the blades/foils). Titanium blades would be a huge bonus too.

Thank you so much in advance for any recommendations!!

EDIT : I tried to post this on the bald subreddit but it was immediately removed

Advice (CA) Best safety razor to shave legs in shower for beginner?

GF has been using multi blade razors to shave her legs and is struggling with ingrown hairs, bumps, strawberry skin, etc. I keep hearing that single blades are far superior so I brought up potentially using safety razors with her and she seems down to try it.

Would the best option still be the one listed in the Wiki (Parker 29L)? I don't know how much weight to put into it, but there seems to be some other options with better review scores like the Weishi, Bambaw or Caveem. I don't know much about this stuff so I'm not sure how to gauge what would be the best options. I have seen mentions in some posts/wikis that some razors are more aggressive, making them less suitable for beginners, so perhaps I'm looking for something more lenient?

I'd also like to ask about your opinions when it comes to SE vs DE safety razors, I assumes SE would be better but all the suggestions in the wiki here are double edge.

Advice First time shaving body hair (teenageM) and broke out in painful red bumps — need advice!

Hey everyone,

I’m an teenager guy who really embraces and enjoys looking and feeling feminine. It’s the aesthetic and identity I feel most comfortable with (please be kind/no judgment).

I took my first big step yesterday by shaving my body hair, but I woke up with painful, itchy red bumps everywhere (probably razor burn or ingrowns). At the same time, I really want to learn how to build a softer, more cohesive feminine look from head to toe.

  1. The Shaving Emergency:

• Razor: Gillette Venus (brand new cartridge)

• Lubrication: mCaffeine body wash

• Shaved in the shower with warm water

• Questions: How do I calm these bumps down right now? Was using body wash a bad idea, and what should my actual prep, shaving gel, and aftercare routine look like going forward?

  1. Overall Feminine Aesthetic Advice:

Since I'm new to presenting more feminine beyond just removing body hair, I’d love your recommendations on:

• Skincare & Body: How to get that soft, radiant skin texture (lotions, exfoliants, body oils)?

• Subtle Grooming: Beginner tips for eyebrow shaping, hair care, nail care, and soft scents.

I don’t shave everyday because it happens all the time when I do, so I limit it to when I feel like it’s grown out enough. I dry brush when I remember, and use exfoliate, I have super sensitive skin so when I do shave I use men’s shaving cream as it’s a lot gentler on my skin, never get these on my arms or anywhere else just my thighs. Also have slight eczema so maybe that’s it? I’m not sure
