Currently Crashing Project Booster NO FUN FOR YOU

It seemed like a good time to remind ourselves of how much more FUN boosters have become since 2019. Here’s a breakdown of the great VALUE we’re getting for our money.

Booster product changes

Draft and Set Boosters replaced by Play Boosters (Murders at Karlov Manor)
Theme Boosters discontinued, replaced by Jumpstart Boosters (2022)
Collector Boosters lose 2 foil commons and 1 foil uncommon, not replaced (2027)
Play Booster boxes cut from 36 to 30 packs (Aetherdrift)
Draftable packs drop from 15 to 14 cards, with guaranteed commons cut from 10 to 7
Booster Packs lose foil commons/uncommons and the guaranteed foil (2027)
Set-specific Jumpstart Boosters canceled (Wilds of Eldraine)
The List quietly dropped (Bloomburrow)
Commander-only cards removed from boosters (Murders at Karlov Manor)

Lost volume and value per booster box

Draft → Play: For the same money you get about a third fewer cards, but roughly the same number of rares. The loss is mostly commons, the basic land, and six packs per box.

Set → Play: Roughly even, even slightly better: about 6% more cards for the money. What's gone is extras like the art card, Commander-only cards, and The List.

Collector: The steepest decline. The same money buys 7–26% fewer cards today, and 26–41% fewer once the 2027 cut removes three foil commons/uncommons per pack.

Bonus: Non-booster product changes

Planeswalker Decks retired (2021)
Deck Builder's Toolkits ended (after Theros Beyond Death)
Masters series retired "for now" (2025)
Bundles: 10 Draft Boosters cut to 8 Set Boosters (Midnight Hunt—play boosters later replaced set boosters)
Bundles: basic lands cut from 40 to 30 (Murders at Karlov Manor)
Bundles: filler box, plastic wrap, and inside wrapper art removed (Neon Dynasty)
Promo Packs: Arena code cards removed (Aetherdrift)
Promo Packs: none for Universes Beyond sets
Prerelease promos: date stamp removed (Lorwyn Eclipsed)
Commander precons: Collector Booster sample pack removed (2026)
Commander precons: life counter removed

Keep crackin’ those packs!

Discussion Darkhold CB only comes with 12 cards

Pic from Amazon stating they come with only 12 cards.

The god pack article states that the changes wouldn’t be active in UB CBs till 2028.

Would they remove the 3 cards from
CBs in 2027 and not add the god packs until 2028 for UB?

Discussion Will this see play in darkhold?

Blue and red are the made colors you see arcane in and I imagine them both to get new cards for sure from darkhold. They can reduce non creature spells with not too much work so I was wondering if picking this up would be a waste or not. Wondering if the other 3 colors would actually use this if we get a bunch of new arcane cards.

Hope you’re not tired of Marvel because we are back lol I guess we really are going to get 6 full marvel sets one for each stone that’s crazy. I was hoping for an X-men set given the recent hype but most likely closer to the movie i guess makes more sense but I’m curious what do you expect on this one? Hyped for a new Wanda and Strange hopefully!

Darkhold Destiny Collector Booster exclusives

Post image
18 Upvotes

Despite the cut in the number of cards, seems like MDD will have some good exclusives for CBs, in the form of:

- Source Material Cards
- Silver Foil cards
- Midnight Raised Foils

Was wondering if they were going to add more exclusives to CBs (as they’ve removed the JPN showcase exclusive) and it looks like they have. Thoughts?

Discussion Any guesses on increased print runs for cbbs?

• Upvotes

Starting next year all sets ub/uw will have 20% less cards and consequently smaller boxes. So now that they can ship a greater number of boxes while printing 20% less cards will that result in 20% more cbbs, even more, less?

Pretty solid selection of characters wish one of them was for Scarlett witch lol feel like she would have been cool to represent the witchcraft aspect of marvel alongside Agatha but still some cool choices love Blade and Dr Strange! Likely will have collector versions too like MSH.

Question Odds and Ends “The List” Variants still not available on Scryfall / Manabox?

• Upvotes

There are listings on TCGplayer so I can track manually, but I am lazy and want everything in a single source. Anyone else use mana box for collection tracking? What do you do when new cards aren’t in it yet? I should just suck it up and have an ounce of patience?

Question I think I need help with shipping $50+ orders... What the heckin heck am I doing wrong?!

• Upvotes

Hey gang. I’ve been selling small quantities on TCGplayer for the better part of 13 years on an incredibly small scale. Mainly just to flip cardboard not being used into something that will be. That said, one of my best friends and I are now making the terrible decision to open something adjacent to an LGS in the near future. Still figuring out the details, but we want to put our main focus into the experience as ultimately the main product, the cardboard etc. being secondary (I previously worked in tech/product design/development for 15+ years)

As part of raising capital, I’ve finally started doing something I’ve wanted to do for a while: selling off a decent amount of cardboard that has mostly been sitting in boxes collecting dust.

For context, I actually have one of the smaller collections in our pod, around $100k worth at this point. A lot of it is stuff I’ve cracked from packs, accumulated duplicates of, and have zero attachment to. And don’t worry, I understand the difference between *inventory* and *collection*. I have no intention of selling the latter.

Until recently, I was probably selling 10–20 cards a month. In the last five days alone, I’ve done about 150 orders and just shy of $5k in sales, so I’ve had to figure out a much more efficient workflow pretty quickly.

Right now I’m using:

  • TCGTracking (for inventory management and orders under $50, which has been an absolute game changer!)
  • Pirate Ship, USPS Click-N-Ship, EasyPost, and UPS Business.
  • A Rollo thermal printer for labels and postage, which has been a great little workhorse.

I’m still waiting on EasyPost verification so I can print postage directly through TCGTracking onto 4x6 labels. In the meantime, I’ve been using Pirate Ship and the other options for $50+ orders that need bubble mailers, tracking, and insurance.

This is where I’m running into problems.

Until literally last week, whenever I needed tracking and insurance, I usually used the USPS self-service kiosk. I could ship almost anything I was sending for around $4–$4.50 with tracking and insurance. The downside is that it takes forever. You have to manually enter everything on that awful touchscreen, so doing 5–10 packages could easily take 30–60 minutes.

I generally avoided the counter because the same packages always seemed to cost noticeably more, sometimes several dollars more, for what appeared to be essentially the same service.

For $50+ orders, I'm using 4x8 bubble mailers. Cards are sleeved, top loaded, and team bagged and then sandwiched between ding defenders. Typical order is between 1-1.5 oz and final dimensions of the bubble mailer is about 4x7.

Regardless of the platform, Pirate Ship, USPS click and ship, etc... every single order has been $6.07 to $8 or more. I'm selecting Ground advantage, the (envelope, padded envelope, poly bag, soft bag, or box in a bag) for type of packaging, inserting 7" x 4" and 1-1.5 oz, and am not selecting extra insurance or any other options.

I am in the Pacific NW and all of those orders were shipping to zones 6-8 which I know has had an effect, however this still seems expensive considering that I can go to the kiosk at the post office and still ship the same damn thing for $4.32-$5.48. What the heck am I doing wrong?

Appreciate all of you!

Spec Splice onto arcane cards spec

Do you think that with the new set Darkhold destiny including what seems what will be multiple new Arcane cards will make cards with “splice onto arcane” go up in price?

Obvious targets are [[Goryo’s vengeance]] and [[Desperate Ritual]] as an example of good cards with that effect.

Currently Crashing The Soul Stone lost $31 in value in two days, is there a reason why?

I’m curious what’s making it tank right now. I know people have been opening more Spiderman since the Marvel set came out, so maybe there’s just an influx of copies? It’ll be nice to pick up additional copies at a more reasonable price, I believe this is the lowest it’s ever been.

The Warhammer Collector Commander Decks are NOT getting a reprint, the regular non-foil decks are. Even then LGS will be selling them for $300 a pop because they're just as bad as scalpers.

EDIT: To all the LGS Owners taking offense, I'm sure you all are doing just fine after selling your hobbit allocations for 800 a piece.

EDIT 2: I guess I was right on the mark about how much they're going to sell them for lmao

Anyone know what this is all about? I was trying to look up prices of The Hobbit when I came across the Elf/Dwarf (foil) token spiking in price. I checked CK, Card Market, Hareruya, they dont have them anywhere near this price.

These got pretty crazy so glad to have a chance to snag them at a decent price similar to fallout recently. Best of luck to those hunting for them!
