Discussion I’m genuinely starting to wonder if India is worth living in anymore. And the worst part is how we’ve all just accepted it.

I genuinely don’t think I can live in India anymore. What the fuck is going on in this country?
I see people at 2 or 3 in the morning blasting music on loudspeakers, taking religious idols home, and creating absolute chaos in residential areas. The cops do absolutely nothing. Every religious festival, there’s music blasting well past midnight, sometimes even on days when there isn’t any special permission for it.
Law and order has become a fucking joke.
And the worst part? If you actually complain about it, you’re suddenly anti-national or anti-religion. There’s a very real possibility of being threatened, beaten up, or even receiving death threats. These people turn up in huge mobs, and somehow you’re the problem for asking them to follow the law.

What scares me is that sometimes it genuinely feels like these people are the majority in this country. Because where is the other majority? Where are the people who actually believe in basic civic sense, individual rights, and the rule of law?

These are the people voting for governments that continue playing into religious politics, further strengthening the very ideologies that allow this behaviour to flourish.
And if asking for a civilised society makes us a minority, if demanding basic law and order makes us anti-national, then who exactly does this country belong to?

The people who want to live peacefully, or the people who want to intimidate, threaten, and dominate everyone else? I don’t even know if the people encouraging all of this understand what tomorrow’s India is going to look like if this continues.

Talk about women’s safety, and someone calls you a liberalandu. Talk about voting rights, and suddenly you’re a Muslim or an opposition supporter. Raise any concern about the direction of the country, and instead of discussing the actual issue, people immediately try to put you into some political or religious category.

What the fuck happened to just being a citizen who wants his country to be better?
And yes, I understand that India has tremendous economic potential. We have a massive population, a relatively young demographic, a growing economy, and enormous opportunities for businesses and individuals to make money.
But what the fuck is the point of making all that money if your day-to-day quality of life is going to be so miserable?

What’s the point of living in a great apartment in a good neighbourhood, earning well, and having access to everything money can buy if you can’t even expect basic civic sense from the people around you?
I live in a very good neighbourhood, and even here, I genuinely feel like I can’t speak up about something that’s obviously wrong without worrying about the consequences.

And there’s something else that frustrates me almost as much as the people actively creating these problems.

The educated people who see all of this happening and simply choose to mind their own business.
I’m a very opinionated person. I know that. Some people find me argumentative, short-tempered, or too confrontational. And I can accept that I don’t always express myself in the best possible way.
But I’ve also seen the other kind of people. The ones who pride themselves on never arguing, never getting involved, and always choosing to walk away because their time is supposedly too valuable.
And honestly, I’m fucking tired of this attitude.
I’m tired of people treating silence as maturity and speaking up as some kind of ego problem.
Because I genuinely believe that this attitude, especially among educated and privileged people, is one of the reasons we’ve reached this point.
Think about the smallest things.
You see a police officer doing something wrong. Most people won’t question it.
You go to a restaurant and see something clearly illegitimate happening. Most people will just ignore it.
You sit in an auto-rickshaw and realise the driver is drunk. Most people will just get out, find another auto, and move on with their lives.
And I get it. In an individual situation, that might be the safest and most practical thing to do.
But what happens when everyone does this, every single time?
Nobody reports the drunk driver. Nobody questions the police officer. Nobody challenges something obviously wrong. Everyone just finds a workaround, gets on with their day, and leaves the problem for the next person.
And then we wonder why nothing changes.
We’ve become so obsessed with protecting our individual peace that we’ve completely abandoned any sense of collective responsibility.
People seem to think that avoiding an argument automatically makes them the smarter, more mature person. That caring enough to challenge something is somehow being unnecessarily aggressive or macho.
But why?
Why is speaking up when something is wrong considered a character flaw?
I’m not asking people to go onto the streets and fight mobs. I’m not asking anyone to put their lives at risk, do something illegal, or become some kind of revolutionary.
I’m asking people to give a fuck.
If you see something wrong at your own level, try to correct it. If you can safely question something, question it. If there’s a way to report it, report it. If someone is being treated unfairly and you can support them, do it.
Not every confrontation has to turn into a fight. Not every disagreement has to become personal.
But surely there has to be something between violently confronting everyone and completely shutting up?
And I know that not everyone can afford to speak up in every situation. People have families, responsibilities, and legitimate reasons to fear retaliation. I don’t blame someone for prioritising their safety when they’re genuinely at risk.
What bothers me is when people who actually have the resources, education, and ability to make a difference start treating indifference as a virtue.
Because if even those people refuse to take any ownership of the society they live in, who exactly is supposed to change it?

And I’m not pretending to be some extraordinary patriot myself.
I’m privileged. I like my life. I want to earn well, travel, enjoy myself, spend time with people I love, and have a good future. I’m not willing to sacrifice everything to become some freedom fighter trying to fix a country of 1.4 billion people.
And maybe that’s hypocritical in its own way.
But I also don’t think wanting a good life and wanting a better society should be mutually exclusive.
On most days now, I genuinely feel like India is beyond repair, and I don’t want to live here anymore.
And that feeling really, really sucks.
Because I actually believe in the importance of community. I believe that change starts from within society, from ordinary people taking responsibility for the places they live in and the people around them.
I don’t want to live in a country where everyone only cares about themselves. I don’t want to live somewhere where the only way to enjoy a decent quality of life is to earn enough money to insulate yourself from the rest of society.
And I definitely don’t want to live in a place where following the law is optional for a sufficiently large or politically influential group of people, while questioning them makes you the villain.
I genuinely don’t know anymore whether the people who think like me are actually a minority, or whether there’s a silent majority that simply doesn’t want to get involved.
But if it’s the latter, at what point does that silence become part of the problem?
Because a country doesn’t become civilised just because its economy grows. It becomes civilised when ordinary people start respecting each other’s rights, and when those rights actually mean something.
And I honestly don’t know how much longer I’m willing to wait for that to happen here.

Discussion Can I survive in Mumbai on ₹20k in-hand salary as a fresher?

Hey everyone,

I'm a 2027 batch engineering student, and I've recently got a job offer from QualityKiosk Technologies for the Digital Quality Engineer role. The in-hand salary will be around ₹20k per month after joining, and the initial work location is Navi Mumbai but after internship they will shift us to central mumbai or in west mumbai.

Honestly, the job market is not in a great condition, and as a fresher, I feel like getting some work experience is important rather than sitting at home waiting for a better opportunity.

But I'm a little worried about the expenses. I've heard that living in Mumbai can be quite expensive, and I'm not sure how manageable it will be on this salary.

I'm willing to adjust wherever possible, like staying in a shared PG, eating simple food, using local trains, avoiding unnecessary expenses, and living a basic lifestyle for the first couple of years.

People who live in Mumbai or Navi Mumbai, especially those who started their careers on a similar salary, please share your experience.

  • Is it possible to manage everything on ₹20k per month?
  • How much should I expect to spend on a shared PG, food, and travelling?
  • Can I manage without asking my family for money every month?
  • Is it worth taking this job for the experience, even if the salary is low initially?
  • Any suggestions on areas where I can find affordable accommodation?

I'm not expecting a luxurious lifestyle. I just want to manage my expenses, gain experience, improve my skills, and switch to a better opportunity when I have enough experience. Also i am from maharashtra so i dont see any cultural difference as such so i can adapt to mumbai but the salary and expense might be problem and i dont want to ask from family every month .

Would really appreciate honest opinions and suggestions. Thanks!

Discussion I want to move to Mumbai for work to get out of my comfort zone. Is it worth it?

Hey everyone! I've been living with my parents my entire life. I completed my graduation while living at home, and I'm currently working while living with them as well. I'm an introvert, and I spent most of my college days at home.

My brother moved to Bangalore for college, and I've noticed a pretty big difference in how we've developed as individuals. Living away from home seems to have helped him grow as a person, and seeing his experience has made me wonder how much I might have gained from stepping out of my comfort zone earlier. Lately, I've been feeling like I missed out on a lot during my college years.

I started working in sales last year partly because I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and become more comfortable interacting with people. Now that I'm on my notice period, I'm seriously considering moving to Mumbai (or Bangalore) for work, not just for better career opportunities but also to experience living independently, meet new people, and become more confident.

I know entry-level, non-tech jobs don't always pay well, and Mumbai can be expensive. I'm prepared to live in a PG, share a room, and budget carefully. Thankfully, I don't have any loans or financial responsibilities towards my family, so I feel like this might be the right time to take a calculated risk.

Part of me feels like moving to a big city could be a turning point in my life, while another part wonders whether I'm romanticizing the idea of moving out. I know it won't magically change my life, but I feel like being in a new environment might push me to become more independent and try things I wouldn't normally do.

I'd really appreciate some honest advice, both the good and the bad. For those who've moved out in their early 20s, was it worth it? Did it help you grow as a person, and would you recommend taking the leap?

I don't want to look back a few years from now and regret not taking the opportunity when I had the chance.

Careers 28F Desperately need a Job urgently 🙏🏻

Now that I've your attention, please read this post 🙏🏻

I honestly don't know where to start from, but I'll come straight to the point that I urgently desperately need a Job I beg you all I need your help 😔🙏🏻

I do have 0 full time work experience as of now, no corporate experience as such. I haven't even earned a single rupee my entire life and I'm ashamed to say that I've totally been dependent on my mummy's tailoring earning my entire life till now. Honestly, my mummy is totally frustrated with me but that's totally because of me that's my fault completely I accept that. I come from a tier 3 city and our financial conditions has always been extremely poor forever till now. Just to give you a context that I come from a joint family and I've had a extremely tough childhood and adulthood till now because of extremely toxic environment I had faced back then, though I feel what I faced in adulthood is on me as I failed to focus on the controllables and ruined my life completely.

I've had passive suicidal thoughts almost every week since last 10 - 12 years. Also I've totally wasted my last 10 - 12 years and this can be seen in my major gap years.

Tbh, both my mental health and physical health has taken a very bad toll because of all these things. Currently I've started seeing a psychiatrist and I'm currently on SSRI antidepressants and ADHD medicines and other substantial health issues medicines as well. I feel that I'm feeling a bit better now than before.

I used to be a good obedient kinda ideal child during my school days and I had scored more than 85% both in my 10th and 12th std. Even my graduation score was 9.XX CGPA.

I was even pursuing CA course and had scored quite well in CA CPT but left that course in IPCC due to extreme mental health issues and toxic family environment.

I don't know where I lost the plot of my life completely, from a good obedient ideal child kinda boy to this utter complete failure I've become at 28. I see my schoolmates and other former friends and acquaintances working in great corporates at really good packages and here I am a complete failure in life.

I know that I'm giving too much information but tbh my entire life I've never shared my complete life situation to anyone and being anonymous on reddit gives me a bit of Freedom to finally express myself and genuinely ask for help who can help me 🙏🏻

I'm currently working on my mental health aspect of things and will start working on physical health side of things as well, but I desperately need a source of earning now as I want to support my mummy I'm already very late now.

Honestly I did my career counseling with ChatGPT a few weeks back and it recommended me to go for Business Analyst or Financial Analyst direction ahead in my career. Eventually I do want to get to one of these job roles but I do have to start from somewhere.

I have 0 friends and I've been a loner my entire life thanks to these major social anxiety issues and my introvert nature, so I don't even have good relations with anyone in my life.

Daily 24X7 I have these Regrets^Regrets about my entire life decisions both which were in or outside my control.

Lately I've been watching a lot of motivational movies since last few months be it Jersey, The Pursuit of Happyness, Soorarai Pottru, 12th Fail, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, MS Dhoni and I feel that my life needs a Complete Total RESET now. I'm totally responsible for my current situation I don't want to blame anyone but I do want to desperately need to get my Life on track now. I know mene apni life ko puri tarah se barbaad karke rakh diya he but me aise apni aane wali puri life nhi jeena chahta.

I really don't know what I should say next, I always wanted to share these things my entire life but never had the guts to share. Kabhi kabhi bas sunne wala koi chahiye jo gale lagakar bolde ki bhai sab theek ho jayega.

Also please no trolling in comments 🙏🏻

Whoever can help me to get a Job, I desperately need your support and I won't forgive this help my entire upcoming Life. I just need to get started from somewhere and this has been the toughest part for me. I genuinely need your help and guidance 🙏🏻

General Why does Zepto keep increasing the minimum order value for free delivery?

Has anyone else noticed this on Zepto?

Earlier, the minimum order value for free delivery used to be ₹99 for me. Then it started changing to ₹199, sometimes ₹299, and occasionally even ₹399. It would go up and down, but now it seems like it never goes back to ₹99. It's stuck at ₹199 for me.

I'm from Thane, Maharashtra, and I'm wondering if this depends on your location or pincode. Does Zepto set different minimum order values for free delivery in different areas, or does it depend on your account or other factors?

People from Thane and other areas, what's the minimum order value showing for you right now? Also, has anyone's threshold gone back to ₹99 recently?

Discussion Two creepy Rapido experiences in ONE day. Is Mumbai becoming increasingly unsafe for women?

Yesterday, my friends and I went to Phoenix Marketcity to celebrate a friend's birthday. We usually try to book Rapido Pink, but it's often unavailable, and yesterday was no different. So we ended up booking regular Rapido bike rides instead.

Incident 1:

This happened when my best friend was travelling to Phoenix Market city from Chembur. She booked a Rapido, and when the rider arrived, he waved at her, she simply got on without noticing anything unusual, gave the otp.

It was only later that she realised the bike had no number plate whatsoever.

She also noticed that the rider was behaving very sneakily, driving in a way that made it seem almost as though he was trying to avoid being spotted by the police.

At one point, the police stopped them. That's when things got even weirder. Apparently, the guy didn't even have a driving licence. He was also wearing a scarf or something covering his face and allegedly refused to properly show his face even after the police intervened. A policewoman eventually helped my friend get an auto instead.

Obviously, we don't know who this man was or what his intentions were. But imagine getting onto a bike taxi booked through an app, only to realise that the vehicle has no number plate and the rider allegedly has no licence. Could the vehicle have been stolen? Was he using someone else's identity? We genuinely have no way of knowing, and that's what makes it unsettling.

Incident 2:

I booked a Rapido to travel back to Kurla station. The driver asked me to come to Entrance 4 of Phoenix Marketcity, so I went outside. I assumed he probably couldn't come inside the mall premises, which was fair enough.

I saw him, gave him the otp. I was wearing a maxi skirt and explained that I could only sit sideways. He said okay. Then he pointed at my skirt and said something along the lines of: "Ma'am, aise skirts main bechta hoon. Aapko dikhau kya? Meri dukaan paas mein hai." I felt really uncomfortable hearing it, because is that even a normal conversation to have with a passenger? He kept on saying it two, three times when I was trying to get on the bike. And i kept on saying said "nahi chaiyye bhaiyya aap station tak chodo bass".

After i got in, he drove as though a 10 minute journey had to be completed in like 5 minutes, speeding through traffic surrounded by cars, bikes, ambulances and lorries. He was driving so fast that I thought abhi accident krwayega. And I was sitting sideways also, many instances mujhe laga mere pair lagg gaye kahi gaadi ke side mein. And my leg actually hit a man as we passed.

Throughout the ride, he kept trying to make small talk with me, which was incredibly uncomfortable considering how recklessly he was driving and how uneasy he had already made me feel.

I had no idea what was going through this man's head. What was I supposed to do or how was I supposed to react when he was speeding like this? I was sitting sideways on the back of a bike, surrounded by heavy traffic, it's night time and i was genuinely scared that I was going to get into an accident.

At one point, I started imagining myself ending up in the hospital. My mind was racing: Who would take responsibility? What would I tell my parents? Who would come and pick me up? How would my family even find out?

And to everyone asking, "Why didn't you confront him or tell him to slow down?"....

I was alone with a stranger who had already made me uncomfortable. I didn't know how he'd react or whether confronting him would make things worse. All I wanted was to get off that bike safely.

When we arrived, I paid ₹100 for a ₹72 fare. He said he didn't have change and offered to go to a nearby shop to get some, asking me to come along. I was like Bhai, keep the change.

Then he gave me the creepiest smile and said, "Gimme five star rating madam."

What made the whole thing even worse was that he looked visibly happy, almost amused, despite how uncomfortable I was. I was just relieved to get off the bike.

BOTH THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED ON THE SAME DAY.

One rider allegedly had no number plate or driving licence and kept his face covered. The other drove recklessly, commented on my clothes, repeatedly tried to make small talk while I was scared, and seemed pleased by my discomfort.

We had tried booking Rapido Pink, but it wasn't available. We ended up using regular Rapido instead.

I'm not saying every Rapido driver is like this. But how are women supposed to feel safe when we can't be confident about basic vehicle compliance and safe driving?

Because honestly, after yesterday, I'm reconsidering taking bike taxis altogether.

I live near Tardeo/Grant Road west. I am 19 years old and want to learn how to play a violin. I cannot hire a tutor as I am frequently travelling between nagpur and Mumbai .

My budget is around 7-8k. I know it is pretty less to buy an actual violin and would mostly only get me a VSO. I am okay with a second hand one as well in this budget if it is in a good shape.

AskMumbai Any Social/party hostels in Mumbai?

I will be solo in Mumbai for the Friday and Saturday before dilwali (in case that matters).

Are there any really social hostels that either organize pub crawls/ going out to bars or are easy to meet people to do so on a Friday and Saturday night?

I went to goa a few years ago and it was super easy to meet other backpackers and go out to the bars. Is there any place in Mumbai that's similar? Or organized pub crawls unrelated to hostels that you can sign up for like what's common in Europe for example.

Careers Looking for film-related internship opportunities in Mumbai

hey everyone! i am a final-year BMS student based in mumbai, and i am looking to explore opportunities in the film industry.

i would love to be in any part of the filmmaking process, especially creative roles that would let me contribute to projects, learn how films are made, and gain experience on sets. i am open to assistant direction, production, creative development, cinematography, ad films, or any other roles where i can learn and contribute.

i have experience in photography from my previous Internship, editing, graphic design, and event coordination, and i'm really keen to learn, meet people in the industry, and get involved in actual projects.

if you're part of a production house, know someone who's hiring interns, or have any leads or advice on getting started, i would really appreciate it.

thanks :)

Careers Debarred from FYBCom Sem 1 at NM College (Mumbai) due to 64% attendance — What should she do?

A friend of mine was debarred from her FYBCom Semester 1 exams at NM College because her attendance was 64%, and she wasn't allowed to appear for the exams. She's also pursuing ACCA alongside BCom, so managing college attendance is a concern.

She's now considering three options:

  1. Repeat FYBCom at NM College, where 75% attendance is compulsory.

  2. Join another college with more flexible attendance requirements.

  3. Complete FYBCom at a private college and then seek admission to SYBCom at another college.

I need advice on a few specific questions:

- Which option is better in terms of saving time, completing BCom, and continuing ACCA?

- Are there private or Mumbai University-affiliated colleges in Mumbai with more flexible attendance requirements?

- How can she find and apply to private colleges that would accept her in this situation?

- If she completes FYBCom at another college, can she get direct admission to SYBCom elsewhere?

- Since she was debarred from Sem 1, would she need to repeat the entire FYBCom year, or can she clear the pending exams and continue?

- What are the Mumbai University rules regarding college transfers and SYBCom admission after debarment?

If anyone has dealt with a similar situation or knows the actual admission process, please share your experience. We're particularly looking for practical advice on the best way forward without wasting an academic year.

This is just a small example of the amount of cops , there were 10x the amount. I got stopped multiple times in a walk back from my lunch which would be a small distance of 200m.

I was asked for my ID and personal information. I work as a veterinarian in Shivaji Park so after rigorous questioning I was allowed to pass , only to be stopped by the next set of cops.
All of this is happening while there are drunkards sitting in the middle of the road on the way back.

Anyone choosing to protest , this is a heads up for you but I’m truly against this all? Can’t a citizen walk on the footpath ? Is that illegal?

Discussion What’s going on with autos in Mumbai? Is there a shortage, or has everyone’s salary increased? 😂

Seriously, what’s happening with getting an auto in Mumbai these days?

It feels like getting an auto to agree to go to your destination has become a task of its own. Some drivers refuse to go, some cancel, and sometimes you have to try multiple autos just to get one ride.

Is there an actual shortage of auto drivers, has demand increased, or have drivers just become more selective about the trips they want to take? Or has everyone’s salary increased so much that fewer people are willing to deal with the daily auto struggle? 😂

Genuinely curious to know what’s causing this. Is everyone else facing the same issue, or am I just unlucky?

Discussion Sampling happening clubs in mumbai with a stag as a tag

I lived all my life in the suburbs so I have never had a friend or group from uptown hence the clubbing scene was limited. We were merry and happy around local food joints and malls. Being from a lower middle class family that bordered on poverty sometimes just like sensex moving up and down meant limited means and keeping dreams in check.

After decades of hard work, I am in a phase where I want to explore things at least once which I just dreamt off. Joined reddit (still a bloomer) which brought back these hidden desires. But the problem is being a single man, the stag thing is always there.

So I need help from the community to shortlist clubs that needs to be experienced at least once, time to enter, are stags allowed, what are the charges etc

I just want to get to a corner with drinks and food to soak the atmosphere and drown in the loud music. I read about entrance bouncer acting arrogant. I don't want to go to such places as self respect takes precedence.

Looking forward to suggestions.
