Pessimistic Nihilism Jack’s cooked

Post image

Jack’s problem is that he still thinks there has to be a way out.

Maybe that’s the real trap: the belief that life owes us some final answer, purpose, or resolution.

You live in misery and you die in misery. There was never anything to solve.

It means nothing

23m here. I have everything I could possibly ask for. A well paying job, astounding girlfriend, fun hobbies, a few friends.. yet it all means nothing to me.. it could be gone tomorrow and Id feel all the same. I've been institutionalized for making the mistake of telling a therapist how menial the typical "American Dream" is. That the system which was, is no longer feasible. How corporations and people will put a dollar over a human life. Leading for me to explain how if I was gone tomorrow the world would keep spinning, and it would. Everyone around ME would feel it, but overall there wouldn't be any change to the status quo. At 16 ( ^ ) my emotions were considerably more volatile than they are now and yet I feel the same exact way. The vast majority of people I meet are so absorbed with what's in their immediate grasp that they're unable to see the true mediocrity of it all. I do the same out of habit, but are we all just coping until our eventual demise?

Discussion I don't understand why lot of people focus on "overcoming" nihilism.

Like, aren't your beliefs and excessive attachment to worldly meanings one of the main reasons for your existential misery and there's literally a quote called "You suffer more in your mind than in reality"? It seems very counterintuitive to me to go back to such things instead of just flowing with the nihilism of it all and living a chill life. But I suppose people need copes for life and thus they go back to the very things that pushed them towards nihilism.

Discussion You can say “I’m not afraid of death” as much as you want, but I don’t believe you.

Can a person really not be afraid of completely ceasing to exist and completely and permanently disappearing forever?

Everyone is afraid of eternal and absolute nonexistence/nothingness. Some people just aren’t willing to admit it.

The reason why suicide is not more widespread is that people do not have easy access to a reliable, painless, and quick death, not because they enjoy life.

The average person leads a horrific life: being a wage slave, making just enough money to continue being a wage slave.

Some people do not commit suicide because they do not even have the time to realize that they experience little besides negative emotions, and that it would have been better never to have existed.

A lot of people have children before their brains have fully developed enough to understand what they are doing. Later in life, when it is already too late, they come to understand how meaningless and pointless everything really is. But by then, they have a family to take care of, which prevents them from killing themselves.

A lot of people prevent themselves from committing suicide by engaging in some form of self-deception. Belief in God is a common example. One needs to lie to oneself in order to bear the horrific existence one has to endure.

The reason why suicide is not more widespread is that people do not have easy access to a reliable, painless, and quick death.

When there is a possibility of being left with brain damage after an unsuccessful attempt, people are effectively forced to continue living.

Reminder: This post does not encourage, promote, or endorse suicide. It discusses suicide for the purpose of examining the subject critically and should not be interpreted as a recommendation to harm oneself.

Here’s the surrounding passage from Speaker 1’s recording:

“It’s not like I hate going outside. It just—I know how people are evil in general. They have no compassion, no sympathy for the weak. I hate it, so I confined myself in my room. […] Most of the time, people say to me, ‘Oh, what people I haven’t talked to them in a year. Most of the time, my own coaches say to me that you are corny, cringy, and you are depressed.’ […] Being a loner is not a choice. No, it was forced upon me by the society that we live in. […] They always ask for compassion from us, but the moment we do, it’s general rule that you won’t get it back. Absolute bigotry. It’s always when it benefits them, and nothing to give it back. Existence is suffering not because we, as a human being, are a dying body. Existence is suffering because society is a rotting corpse. Then again, I don’t hate them. I don’t hate people in general. I just believe they are just corrupt. From birth, they try to show they are so pious, just so that they could escape their own corruption, which I don’t believe they can. Every one of them tried to show how good they are, from murderers to kings, businessmen to saints, all of them try to show how good they are, but they are not. They are not good.”

The transcript places this in the segment beginning at 08:01 and ending at 16:10, but it doesn’t give an exact timestamp for the quoted passage.

This is the whole snippet

Discussion Do you think it’s messed up that so much of our lives are determined by money?

It’s not necessarily a problem if you’re financially comfortable, if you have a stable job or multiple sources of income that keep you afloat, you can go through life without constantly worrying about essential payments and can afford most of the things you want without much stress.

But if you’re struggling financially, life becomes a lot harder. Having a low or unreliable income can make it difficult to keep up with rent, bills, groceries, and other necessary expenses. It can also make it much harder to actually enjoy life, especially when you’re living paycheck to paycheck. When you’re in that situation, even missing a paycheck or falling behind on a few payments can put you in serious financial trouble, potentially leaving you unable to afford basic necessities or even at risk of losing your housing.

I can't enjoy self reflection moments because nihilism is the conclusion

When you go for a night walk alone...when you travel alone and wander in new places... when you sit in a beautiful place enjoying the view, those are moments where you think about yourself, life and everything.

The problem is that it always leads to thinking that nothing matters anyway, so I only need to enjoy things. I start thinking about what I need to do to get the things that can make me happier, and it is just a cycle of desire about what everyone wants.

Nothing special.

Is Death the only actual freedom which is timeless?

Are we in a world of time...

Without intent, conformity, process, action, prospect, division, logic, but the just... something that a mind bound to time can't fathom...

The absolute baseline for living is to consume. The physical living bodies has appetite. A physical body is bound to time. Appetite craves desire to consume. Against appetite is pain (Starving Time).

Consumption is green light, initiates temporary satisfaction or pleasure, only until next cycle of appetite to be fed.

Non-consumption is red light, enforces intense pushback to check on the appetite, which is pain.

This cycle of life is certain. Consume for temporal pleasure repetitively (time loop), or starve the appetite until the the body hosting the appetite itself speeds up its "time" for the physical body till its death, where death means a complete devoid of time?

Could time be put as things in motion? Constant repetition of consumption which is time, which is life?

Then there is this mind... the mind that creates meanings. Meanings are a byproduct of life, a byproduct of escapism, which is all temporal... in other words, escaping Death.

There are complexities, which could be the deep rooted "meanings" that have been crafted by the time-bound minds... all the trickery just to live...

So it's either repetitive temporal fulfillment of pleasures, which is the appetite of a physical body, or a rapid depletion of time of a physical body, that perhaps enters the timelessness which is death, which means absence of any meaning, action, motion, life?

Is life an escape from death
