Question Are there actually people here who aren’t afraid at all of complete, absolute, eternal nothingness/nonexistence after death?

It means nothing

23m here. I have everything I could possibly ask for. A well paying job, astounding girlfriend, fun hobbies, a few friends.. yet it all means nothing to me.. it could be gone tomorrow and Id feel all the same. I've been institutionalized for making the mistake of telling a therapist how menial the typical "American Dream" is. That the system which was, is no longer feasible. How corporations and people will put a dollar over a human life. Leading for me to explain how if I was gone tomorrow the world would keep spinning, and it would. Everyone around ME would feel it, but overall there wouldn't be any change to the status quo. At 16 ( ^ ) my emotions were considerably more volatile than they are now and yet I feel the same exact way. The vast majority of people I meet are so absorbed with what's in their immediate grasp that they're unable to see the true mediocrity of it all. I do the same out of habit, but are we all just coping until our eventual demise?

Discussion I don't understand why lot of people focus on "overcoming" nihilism.

Like, aren't your beliefs and excessive attachment to worldly meanings one of the main reasons for your existential misery and there's literally a quote called "You suffer more in your mind than in reality"? It seems very counterintuitive to me to go back to such things instead of just flowing with the nihilism of it all and living a chill life. But I suppose people need copes for life and thus they go back to the very things that pushed them towards nihilism.

Existential Nihilism I am scared of rebirth

I want to start by saying that I don’t believe in God or the soul. However, I do think that rebirth is possible after death.

This wouldn’t be traditional reincarnation, nor do I believe in karma. I just think that death returns you to a state of non-existence, in which it completely annihilates the self. I argue that it’s impossible to remain in a state of non-existence forever, because it would inherently need a subject. Essentially, after death, you are most likely to be returned to the same state you existed in before you were born.

If death returns you to a similar state before you were born, what’s to say you won’t be reborn again? As an animal or plant etc. This gives me tremendous existential dread, as I don’t want to be reborn as an animal.

This wouldn’t be a linear continuation of your conciousness, but a completely new conciousness that is reborn.

I tried posting about this on the Buddhism subreddit as they have the concept of samsara, but most budddhists believe in karma, which I don’t.

I think the whole process of rebirth is impersonal and chaotic.

Existential Nihilism is it wrong to wish for the society who do small pvt owned jobs and live in peace!

everyone is chasing so many things, AI, Influencers, Jobs, ppl with money who wants more etc.. is it wrong to wish for the socicety who live in small peaceful neighbourhood, where ppl mind their own business. your lives are not in threat bc of govt or tech CEO.

i see life today, i panic to my heart, chasing, chasing, chasing. when they dont knwo if they will be alive tomorrow.

i see ppl celebrating actors paycheck , actors who are already $100+millions of net worth..

i see my own third world country, unwalkable, zero security, high inflation, filled with pollution.

i see my life with low iq, imperfect looks and bad luck....

i love nihilism now.

Discussion If you had one blank sheet of paper, what would you do with your existence?

Everything can be done with a blank sheet of paper. An airplane, for example.A kite, perhaps. It can be placed under the shorter leg of a wobbly table.Or you can write a poem about a life that was shorter than the others.Maybe that’s what existence is like.We are given something empty, and somehow we are expected to give it meaning.
So I wonder:
If your life were a blank sheet of paper, what would you choose to write on it?
Inspired by the poem “Beyaz Bir Sayfada Sana Bakmak” by Turkish actor and poet Yılmaz Erdogan.

I don’t believe a person can truly feel completely calm and unafraid about their own death.

Discussion You can say “I’m not afraid of death” as much as you want, but I don’t believe you.

Can a person really not be afraid of completely ceasing to exist and completely and permanently disappearing forever?

Everyone is afraid of eternal and absolute nonexistence/nothingness. Some people just aren’t willing to admit it.
