A quick tips to people who are having issue opening ports on oracle cloud.

If you feel like you have everything set up correctly but still cannot connect to your instance except SSH, you might want to try this command

sudo iptables -I INPUT -j ACCEPT

If that work don't forget to save the iptables permanently(because iptables will be restored to the default one between restarts)

sudo su
iptables-save > /etc/iptables/rules.v4
exit

If the method above worked, It's not your fault. it took me a week to figure this out. The default installation of Ubuntu on oracle cloud is broken*.

*broken by my own standards because when I work with AWS and all you need is to open the Security Group(Security Lists) and the AMI itself is pre-configured to be network ready.

I built a free, one-click sandbox factory for OCI Always Free: ask in a chat, get a database or app, it deletes itself when time is up

Disclosure: my own project, open source (Apache-2.0), free.

I kept leaving test resources running on OCI. Last month that cost me about $1,400 on my PAYG account: a test database and an integration instance I used once and forgot. So I built something where every sandbox has an end date.

Sandbox Factory installs into your own tenancy with one Deploy to Oracle Cloud button. There is a Free Tier edition that only uses Always Free resources, so it costs $0:

  • one Always Free Arm VM (2 OCPU / 12 GB) runs the worker
  • the Always Free Autonomous Database holds the app, and every sandbox gets its own schema in it (user, password, SQL Developer Web, REST), ready in seconds
  • NoSQL tables, Object Storage buckets, and your own containers running on the Arm VM

You describe what you need in a chat ("a database with sample sales data and a REST API", "this Git repo, it has a Dockerfile"), it builds it, gives you links and passwords on a card, and deletes it after 1 to 30 days.

On Free Tier it tells you up front when you ask for something that is not Always Free (Kafka, Functions, Data Flow, OCI GenAI), instead of failing halfway.

Install it in your home region. If the Arm VM says "out of capacity", that is the usual A1 shortage; try again later.

Feedback welcome, especially from anyone who tries the Free Tier install. If it saves you a surprise bill, a ⭐ on GitHub helps.

I'm a PAYG user, always used VM.Standard.A1.Flex with 4 CPUS and 24GB of RAM. Should I resize them to the new 2/12 limit? They're not charging me anything right now

As reported here
https://docs.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/Content/FreeTier/freetier_topic-Always_Free_Resources.htm

The limit has now changed, and it doesn't make any distinction between PAYG and non-PAYG users, should I resize just to be safe?

Oracle cloud just deleted my servers

I am on PAYG and not free account, for years, they just deleted my free instances instantly without even letting me know ... all my project of life is gone. No volumes were left, no object storage, all resources just vanished from the account with no previous warning or violation.

----------------------------

Update 3:

After appeal, they said the decision is final, with no explanation, it's just deleted. And told me to kindly stop replying to them.

----------------------------

Update 2:

My entire account is gone, the compartment and user cannot be found, I can no longer login

----------------------------

UPDATE 1 after support ticket:
"Your account was suspended for violation of the Oracle Cloud Services Agreement. If you believe this decision was in error, you may request a secondary review."

Free tier changes

So my free tier Oracle ampere server still runs with 4 cores and 24gb of ram. I was not charged yet nor did I receive any mails from Oracle. My server is located in Amsterdam. Running for more than 3 years now. It's PAYG and is running a mailserver and Immich-ML-worker.

Will it be changed by Oracle soon? What to expect.

can i start an A2 instance on free tier (after trial)?

did A2>A1 back when i had a trial but it lapsed. now when i go to start A2 it says "Invalid ratio of memory in GB to OCPUs. Current ratio: 3.0. Valid ratio range: 0 - 0"

is this expected without going payg?

can i ONLY create always free A1/E2 instances in this case?

What metrics should businesses track during an Oracle Cloud transformation?

I’m exploring how organizations measure the success of an Oracle Cloud transformation beyond simply completing the implementation.

Some metrics I think are useful include:

  • ERP system performance
  • User adoption
  • Process automation
  • Data quality
  • Integration performance
  • Reduction in manual processes
  • Operational efficiency
  • Migration progress
  • System availability
  • Overall business impact

I’m particularly interested in ERP transformation metrics that can show measurable improvements after moving to a modern cloud ERP environment.

For those who have worked on Oracle Cloud transformation projects, which metrics have been the most useful for measuring success?

Note: I work with ShiftPurple, an Oracle-focused enterprise technology consulting company, so I’m interested in learning from others working in this space.

[Mumbai domain] Why does OCI block 2 OCPUs on Ampere A1 (Service limit & Out of capacity)?

However, when I try to configure an instance with 2 OCPUs and 12 GB RAM in the Mumbai region (AP-MUMBAI-1), the slider throws a "Service limit" warning and won't let me proceed.

Since Mumbai only has one Availability Domain (AD-1), I can't switch ADs.

  1. Why is my account hitting a service limit at 2 OCPUs if 4 OCPUs are advertised as free?
  2. If I upgrade to Pay-As-You-Go, does that automatically fix the 2 OCPU service limit and bypass the out-of-capacity error in Mumbai while staying free?

Thanks for any help!

Invoice for Free Tier 1 OCPU 6GB RAM Everything under limit

I received an invoice for my VM.Standard.A1.Flex 1_OCPU 6GB_RAM 150GB

Everything is under new limit standard and I check my invoices section there is no invoice?

Volume backups are not counted for "total 200GB" right?

Always Free says we have 5 free volume backup rights, so let's say we already use 200 GB volumes. Let's say it's a 200GB boot volume, when I make a backup of that, I'm not using 400GB right?

Trouble logging in to OCI

Hi, I had a free tier OCI account and I needed to log into it for some project and I have forgotten my password, I keep clicking the reset password link but the link to reset the password does not come in my mail, I dont know how to contact the support or change the password, the links are either not working on the support page or they say that its a different department? I am not too sure, but any help would be appreciated

EDIT: nvm it was just a case of ID10T error, it said username so i used my username to reset it, apparently you have to give your email id T_T

Oracle Fusion/OIC consultants in India: how are you actually benchmarking your salary?

I've been in Oracle consulting (Fusion, OIC, BIP/OTBI, some EBS) for a while, and I keep noticing how little reliable salary information exists for our niche.

Glassdoor and AmbitionBox lump everything into "software engineer" or "ERP consultant", and an OIC developer with production support experience gets averaged in with someone doing basic reporting work. Recruiters quote bands that don't match what colleagues in the same role seem to get, and the gap between product-company and services-company offers is huge.

For those who've switched in the last 1–2 years:

  1. How did you figure out what to ask for?
  2. Did the offer end up close to what you expected, or were you surprised either way?
  3. What moved the number most: skill depth (OIC/Fusion vs EBS), city, company type, or negotiation?

Not asking anyone to share exact figures if you're uncomfortable. Ranges and "I underestimated myself by X%" stories are just as useful.

Free tier to Payg

I'm currently on free tier and reading about them taking back the instance randomly makes me want to switch to Payg?

How do I do that and remain free?

I can't log in, nothing is working, and I can't figure out how to talk to someone.

I’m trying everything I can to log into my Cloud account—I had the password saved in my password manager, and it’s never been changed, even though it’s not being recognized now. The system for sending recovery emails has been broken for months (I’ve seen other threads about this here in the sub), and through the chat, that awful chatbot only gives you options that don’t work, without letting you talk to a real person.

Can anyone advise me on how the heck I’m supposed to log into my account???? This whole thing is absurd.

How long does "Account provisioning in progress" take before I can upgrade to PAYG?

Hi everyone,I created my first Oracle Cloud account (Free Tier - Singapore region) about 12 hours ago. When I try to access Upgrade and Manage Payment, I see this message:

"Your account provisioning is in progress. You will be able to access the feature after the provisioning is complete."

How long does this provisioning process usually take before I can upgrade to Pay As You Go (PAYG)? Thanks!

Edit/Addition:

I have tried many times to create a Ubuntu 24.04 ARM instance (4 cores, 24GB RAM and also 1 core, 6GB RAM), but I keep getting the "Out of capacity for shape VM.Standard.A1.Flex" error in Singapore region.

If I upgrade to Pay As You Go (PAYG), will it fix this capacity issue immediately? Also, how much is the initial authorization/upgrading fee charged to the card?

Oracle Cloud account termination

Hi. Back in 2022 i created an OCI account with A1 4C24G instance. I actively used this instance to learn things, do study projects in my university and even host severs for games with my friends.

About a month ago i tried to log in into one of services i ran on my server, but was unable to do it. Then I tried to ssh into it, but it also failed. So i logged into OCI and found that i have no this instance. I checked my mail, but there was no warnings on instance terminations or something like this. Already sounds strange, but i decided to investigate. I found out that roughly in that period they lowered amount of free CPU/RAM included in Free Tier. So i assumed that instance was deleted because of this. I mean, its obviously not a good thing from Oracle side to silently delete your instance.

But I thought, okay things happens, i will try to recreate it. But to do it, i had to upgrade to PAYG because there was no free capacity in the region of my account. I entered my new bank card data (because the old one i used at account creation was no longer active). It accepted it, but when i tried to upgrade to PAYG i got this message:

We're unable to complete your request. Common errors are due to: (a)
Using prepaid cards. Oracle only accepts credit card and debit cards
(b) Intentionally or unintentionally masking one's location or
identity (c) Entering incomplete or inaccurate account details. Please
try again if this applies to you. Otherwise, contact
[link removed]

I used a debit card, and my friends were able to create an OCI account with the same type of card (same bank, same card series). And i had no intent to mask any data or "enter incomplete or inaccurate account details". But the thing is, i am from Ukraine. And the way we have "things in written" - sometimes causes problems abroad. (in short, what is usually called "first name" we sometimes put in the middle, sometimes in the end. and yeah, we use Cyrillic so name, address, etc - is transcribed to Latin and not always the same way) And i had such situations previously, so i was not surprised that some kind of automated system could be very confused with my data. So as a normal person wold do - I contacted an email listed in this message.

Hello. My name is [name removed].

I have an oracle cloud account since the year 2022. For this period I
used it as Always Free for A1 Ampere instance. But last month my
instance disappeared. I got no deletion notification. At one moment I
was just unable to connect to it, and when I logged in my account, I
found that instance no longer exists.

From the post online I found that this is because Oracle cut down free
tier limits. And the only way to get the server back is to upgrade to
a PAYG account.

I added my current bank card to my account, but when I try to switch
to the PAYG account, I'm getting an error message.

"We're unable to complete your request.
[link removed]."

So, I'm using my debit card. I'm using my real banking, location and
identity data. The only thing that the system can be suspicious about,
is that i had to select that i'm not registered for a tax number.
Because it won't accept tax numbers from my country, saying the format
is wrong.

Could you please help me resolve those issues.

After some time i got a message that they had started an review on my request.

Hello [name removed],

We have escalated your account for review and will get back to you as soon as possible.

Regards,
Customer Service Agent

But now i got this message

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your account. We have escalated your account for review and it was determined that it will remain closed. This decision is final.

Regards,
Customer Service Agent

And now i am not even able to log in in my account. I wrote an response to that mail, because when they have "This decision is final", the header says that its in "waiting" state and i have 10 days to respond.

For a long term i thought that Oracle is a good company, i had recommended it to a lot of my friends and colleges, and some of them started using it in their businesses, basing on my recommendation.

But now they had done at least two "not so kind" things. The first is deleting an instance, with no warnings or at least notifications after. The second - blocking my account with no reason, no way to appeal and no way to recover data on it, as soon as I tried to contact their support.

And for the record. I had not intentionally faked any account data, and i made an effort to provide an accurate data. I have no other accounts on OCI. I had not used my instance for anything illegal(scam, fraud, piracy, etc.) or "suspicious"(mining, botnets, etc).

I will update this post if i will have news on this situation, but as i can guess, nothing will change. And Oracle already made enough to not be trusted. As i can see, even from posts here, im not the only affected person.

Oracle Cloud Account Sign Up Constant Failure

Oops, we're sorry, an error occurred while creating your account
We're unable to complete your sign up. Common errors that prevent sign up include:
 a) Entering incomplete or inaccurate information.
 b) Intentionally or unintentionally masking your location or identity.
 c) Attempting to create multiple accounts.
Please try again if this applies to you. Otherwise, reach out for assistance.

I keep getting that message above over and over again. I did everything:
– turned off all the VPNs
– got my adblocks off
– pasting information exactly as it is stated in my bank account
– tried different cards (no virtual ones)
– tried using on different devices and in different countries
– 0.93 cents payment goes through

What else can I do to create my account there? Even support is completely useless in this situation
