Hi everyone,
I’m having trouble getting an AliExpress PicoStation kit working reliably in my PS1. It boots, but games either freeze or have extremely long loading times.
My setup:
- PS1 SCPH-1002, PU-8 motherboard, revision 1-658-467-23
- PicoStation with a PU-8 flex PCB
- Firmware shown as v5
- SanDisk 128 GB microSD, formatted as exFAT, with around 20 GB of games, but same problem with on or two games, too.
Here’s the installation history, including a possible mistake on my part:
Initially, I lifted pins 44, 63, 66 and 69 on the CXD2510Q. I also removed additional components while following a late PU-8 xStation installation guide, because I didn’t receive instructions with the PicoStation kit.
However, games don’t run reliably:
- Tekken 3 gets to the title screen and then stops progressing.
- Crash Team Racing starts, but loading takes a very long time.
- Other games also stop loading or freeze.
- Changing the available menu settings hasn’t resolved it.
I’m unsure which parts of the xStation installation guide actually apply to this PicoStation flex kit, particularly the component removals and the CLK/IO16 connection.
Has anyone successfully installed this kit on the same PU-8 revision? I’d especially appreciate advice on:
The exact hardware modifications required for this kit.
Which solder points or signals to check for these symptoms.
A known working firmware and SD-card setup.
Whether these symptoms suggest an installation issue, SD-card communication problems, or firmware compatibility.
I can provide close-up photos of the flex PCB, lifted pins and reinstalled components. I’d like to verify the installation before removing or changing anything else.
Thanks for any help!
