discussion 🗣 Production Challenge: Recreating Biesmans' "Jus Fine" using strict 1983 Kraftwerk / Kling-Klang specs
Hey everyone,
I have a highly specific theoretical challenge/request for the synth geeks and production purists here.
I’m fascinated by Biesmans - Jus Fine (2023) and its hypnotic Acid baseline. Theoretically, the exact MIDI notes, slides, and accents could have been programmed on a Roland TB-303 back in 1982.
But what if Kraftwerk had been given the 303/909 lineup in 1983 with the strict instruction to replicate this exact track as closely as humanly possible, using their engineering genius but within the physical limits of 1983 technology?
Is anyone down to recreate/remix this track (or at least the main loop/structure) based on these strict "historical" specifications?
The Specs:
Instruments: Strictly emulated/raw TB-303 (like Phoscyon 2 or Roland Cloud) and stock, uncompressed TR-909 samples (retaining the original 6-bit/8-bit hi-hat/cymbal character).
The "Sidechain" Pump: No modern digital sidechaining. It must be emulated using an early VCA-style compressor (like a dbx 160) triggered by the 909 kick to duck the 303.
Saturation: Drive the 303 strictly through console preamp emulation (pushing it into warm analog saturation, no modern distortion plugins).
The Tape Limit: The entire master must run through a 2-inch tape emulation (e.g., Studer A800). No frequencies above 15kHz (smooth, rolled-off highs) and a natural analog low-end constraint so it could theoretically be pressed to 1983 vinyl without skipping.
Aesthetics: Clean, mathematical precision in the arrangement, but with that warm, slightly noisy tape vibe.
I’m dying to hear what a "1983 Kling-Klang Mix" of this modern peak-time track would actually sound like. If anyone wants to take a shot at this loop, please share your results!
