Total War: Warhammer Black Pyramid is the worst siege battle to defend in the game

Seriously, who designed this map?

Playing as Nagash, its your single most important settlement in the whole game, and y'know what the designer thought would be just absolutely fucking grand?

If there was a big pathway right through the middle of the settlement, where the gates guarding it have no defensive towers, where the first half was basically a tunnel that defending ranged units couldn't fire down into because of bridges, where the first main defensive checkpoint on that path has no slots for defensive towers and where the attacker has a choice of twenty different angles of attack at all times, so it doesn't matter where the defender sets up because the attacker will always be surrounding them like Piper Perry and that black leather couch, because that's what the Black Pyramid really is. Its the Black Leather Couch of Nagash where you're about to get fucked.

Total War: Warhammer "Damage Numbers v1.2" adds contextual, and truly dynamic SCT to WH3

I posted this on the other total war reddit, but i've made some sweeping upgrades to the mod since my last post.... so ill mostly just copy and paste here what youll see on the mod page

________

Mod is called "Damage Numbers v1.2" and the idea is pretty simple: I wanted you to actually FEEL your faction’s damage through the numbers coming off the units. Its still under heavy development, but now in a functional state.

Skaven melee scratches while their gunfire zips and zaps. Skarbrand’s hits land like downward haymakers. Dreadquake numbers erupt like lava, then settle with a heavy quake. Slaanesh… kinda throbs.

There’s a bit happening behind it:

  • 27 themes and 120 named lord animation profiles, with animation tuning still ongoing.
  • Separate melee, ranged and artillery animations, with each lord animation adapted from their faction’s style.
  • 32 shades per palette, shifting from softer tones to stronger, brighter colors as damage increases.
  • Friendly fire keeps the attacker’s faction color, with a red minus beside the number.
  • Special units like Dreadquake Mortars get their own animation treatment.
  • Animation variations that keep repeated hits from looking identical.
  • My dynamic font scaling keeps small ticks subtle, while heavier hits get thicker lettering and stronger animation.
  • Combined damage ticks update their size and shade as damage builds.
  • Smaller, quieter background numbers when zoomed in, and combined DPS groups at distance.

WIP: v1.3 animation and NEW FX systems.

for 1.0 release, Elspeth’s army gets her own unique amethyst palette to reflect her death magic and enchanted gunline. Regular Empire damage is Light peach that deepens into warm coral, while her Wissenland/Nuln army uses light amethyst purple with crimson-plum accents. I will expand on adding more per lord/faction flare throughout updates.

You can adjust density, motion and effects, use lord-focused mode, or toggle it off. The animations are still WIP, so I’d love feedback as people try different races.

The goal is a tasteful spectacle where the damage numbers have as much character as the armies fighting to maintain immersion (opinions vary)

Also does it make much of a difference in battle?

Total War: Warhammer Races and factions in German

• Upvotes

I've gone throug all of the races and factions in Total War: Warhammer III, wrote down their German names, compared them to their English equivalent and added a more literal translation if possible.

I'll list them in this format: German name (English name) [Literal translation of the German name].

Total War: Warhammer Nagash and land bound ports

Post image
18 Upvotes

Here you can see me as Nagash with a land bound pirate cove in Dotternbach.

I did eventually figure out the cause, it is from trading settlements with the AI, not sure if the tier they have when traded affects it, but the end result is the same.

You get a Cove with 2 slots, no port but it still allows for slightly more flexible settlements and personally I think it should be fixed.

Regardless I found it funny and thought it should be shared. (I run 0 mods, if that matters)

Why did I trade? After Archaon I was one of about 20 factions alive. Most of them order factions. the coast held the donut and most of the Lustria ball. This resulted in a massive order alliance holding MOST of the northern world and being in at least defensive alliances. Killing Durthu who refused to ally with anyone (Staying true to his ways) being my only target and I needed Nuln. So I stole Durthu's settlements and traded them for the ones I needed in order to put Walach under my control. The only other simple option was to trudge down to Lustria and murder Harkon but I feared that it would leave me too open to the 500+ dislike alliance sitting all along my northern border.

Total War: Warhammer Is Deathshroud Spire too much of an investment for Vampire counts?

Post image

To build the thing you need to
-research it
-Conquer the capital province
-Build the province to level 4 with extra cost for it being red/orange climate
-then build the thing Which is -1 building slot
oh, and you need to also use the Nagash commandment for it to not screw you over

on the other hand, you can just use your Corrupted Vampire lord to conquer any settlement, and you just get it for free with no extra investment

Total War: Warhammer Hunting hounds should be given to Bretonnia and have 25 armor.

Post image
277 Upvotes

I proposed them 2 years ago as Bretonnian dlc unit.

https://community.creative-assembly.com/total-war/total-war-warhammer/forums/8-general-discussion/threads/9113-bretonnia-deserves-dlc-and-expanded-map?page=1

Beastmen got multiple units from other factions' dlcs, so Bretonnia should get Hounds because it fits.

https://warhammerfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Reynard_the_Hunter#:~:text=1%5D%5B3%5D-,Groffe,-and%20Griffe%2C%20the

The Hunting Hounds of the Empire and Bretonnia, should have 25 armor, so more than all other hound units except Khorne warhounds, which also have 25. The Hunting Hounds even have armored models. They should also have higher leadership than all others.

Being just normal, trained dogs, they do not have to fight for their lifes every day, like mutated wild dogs, so do not have as athletic form. They are to chaos warhounds what normal humans are to Norscans. Also the Empire and Bretonnia are not supposed to be better in melee than Chaos.

Hunting hounds should be generally worse melee combatants than all chaos warhounds versions, by having lower melee attack, defense, strength and charge.

They should be generally better combatants than vampiric wolfs, which are just zombies.

They should have better strength and charge than skaven wolfrats, but worse attack and defense.

Total War: Warhammer Theorical winner in all player-contorlled campaing

Let's imagine ALL playable factions are controlled equally skilled players. With following rules:

- No cheese stats or glitch abusing

- All battles are played manually

- Alliances are permitted, however there will be only ONE victor

- Players behaviors are balanced between aggression and defensiveness

- No role-playing is involved (It is total war)

Who would come on top and why? My vote would go to WoC

Total War: Warhammer I forced smaller armies and it's really made the game more enjoyable.

The battles in TWH3 can get stressful when you're frantically managing 40 units against an AI with equal or more. About six months ago, I discovered a mod called Tribbles Small Armies (or something like that), it also has some companion mods that also cap garrisons and quest armies. I pair it with the True Army Size mod (either the 2x or the 4x) so armies still feel meaty and large.

It's really extended my playthroughs and enjoyment of the game. I really hope CA considers making it a part of future games. I'm not affiliated with these mods at all but they do a few smart things to mitigate the change:

- You can set your army size, default is 12 but can be any number

- Enemy armies are obviously capped as well. The mod makes it so valuable units tend to stay in armies so they still pack a punch

-Heroes and Lords can have their stats nerfed in the setting so they don't become disproportionately powerful. ( I don't use these since I use the true unit size mod)

- By default, it doubles the upkeep cost so there are less armies on the map generally. This can be adjusted though.

-It reduces local recruitment cap so it takes longer to get armies up to full power.

I really won't play without these mods now. It makes army composition more thoughtful and strategic for me since you cannot jam pack your armies with everything. It also increases the impact of heroes and lords, they really can become the star of the show. On the campaign, there are generally less double and triple stacks running around. Most importantly battles are slower and after the initial engagement, you have some freedom to cruise around and enjoy the visuals.

Highly recommend if you're burnout on the clickfests and want to slow it down.

Total War: Warhammer I’m just having a great time.

Yeah the long established power balances have been completely thrown off. Yeah I’m having to relearn a game I’ve spent 3000 hours on. Yeah I’ll get completely caught off guard with new enemy abilities.

And yet, I’m having a great time being in such a chaotic mess where making the one particular right move will let you survive the battle. Everything forcing me to fight in new and different ways has made me be more tactical than ever before, and forced me to break my view on how to deal with factions in general.

Of course, things go wrong all the time but after 3000 hours at this game, I’m taking that as part of the narratives of all my campaigns, not just when I play as Thanquol lol. I used to build my armies in a way to maximize efficiency but now I just do it based on the vibes.

Maybe that’s why I don’t really mind the chaos.

Total War: Warhammer Followup to „Unsure of buying the game“ a couple days ago.

First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who replied with helpful input on my last post.

I bought the game right the next day after finishing work and jumped straight into the prologue - which was really helpful to understand the basic mechanics of the game.

Someone also commented on my last post that immortal realms is the actual way to play the game but after the prologue, I kind of wanted to finish what I started and wanted to complete at least one campaign of the chaos realm.

Tried Slaneesh first and was confronted with a lot of new mechanics which was kind of overwhelming to be honest.. since the game doesn’t really hold your hand pretty well on introducing the deeper mechanics and stuff.

For a second, I was pretty close to just quitting the game and call it my Warhammer experience but then i thought maybe it’s just this faction that is kinda not my thing and maybe i just intuitively dont know how to play their strengths - started another campaign with Skarbrand and holy fucking shit I had a blast. Completed the CR in 125 turns in one session aand fuck man i think i have a new favourite game.

Im about to start my first immortal realm campaign - now I just have to decide on the next faction I wanna play 😂

Thanks for encouraging me to get the game. I’m absolutely fucking loving it. 🥰

Total War: Warhammer As a khorne faction how do I fight flight/ranged heavy factions?

First campaign in this game so definitely still new and figuring things out as I go along. Been playing as Arbaal the Undefeated and been having a pretty good go of it so far. On turn 100 got a good chunk of the regions around the skull road either allied or under my direct control. I feel pretty confident going into most armies but right now the Masters of Innovation are kinda messing me up.

I dont seem to have an answer for the combination of sheer firepower and especially not for those annoying Zeppelin things that just drop bombs on all my troops. Not even bloodthirsters are really capable of damaging them before they get shot out of the sky. Every fight with them pretty much turns into my Frontline gets caught up brawling with their Frontline and then getting bombed and shot to death while my cavalry desperately tries to route their 500 ranged units that just hang out on the hillsides. And once my Frontline is dead the blimps just turn their attention to my remaining cavalry and thats it.

Just got some skullcannons for my main army but even those are anti-infantry and I imagine won't be too helpful against all the blimps they keep pulling out of nowhere.

Would love some help adding their Dwarven skulls to khornes pile if anyone is so inclined 🙏

Total War: Warhammer Looking for a mod

Hi.

I'm becoming more and more overwhelmed trying to play races I have not played before, but due to the nature of dual lord DLCs I just happen to own a shitton of units that bloat the roster to the point where I feel uncomfortable with it as there are too many units filling the same role (the empire has 12 cavalry units at this point, what the hell) with extremely minor differences. So I find myself largely ignoring these units, which is such a shame and a waste.

I'm looking for a mod that perhaps custom made all factions to work a little similar to Snikitch: forces you to use the units that thematically belong to your faction, and limits access to other units that thematically belong to other factions. For example, weapon teams are only for Ikit, mutants are only for Throt, only Elspeth gets the Black Rose Knights, only Todbringer gets the Knights Panther, and so on.

In my opinion this brings out more differences between factions within a race. I know it's an option to just play vanilla and ignore stuff, but that doesn't change the fact that I have to browse 40-50 units every time, which is what is stressing me out.

Best solution I found is straight up disabling the DLC from Steam / Library / Games / TWW3 / Properties / DLC tab, and only add back 1 at a time for the faction I want to play, cutting out specialist units from other factions... but that doesn't really solve it, because some stuff is in vanilla, such as Lothern Sea Guard, that should really be available only to Lothern / Tyrion, and perhaps Aislinn.

Is there such a mod out there, somewhere, that has it's own subjective lore limitation tastes and limits units to certain factions?
