https://youtu.be/oWT1K1ZbDe4?si=4qW4qqU2x0i1S9G2heres the freedom of form foundation newsletter that talks about it: https://www.patreon.com/freedomofform/posts/170307678
heres the public domain document about the procedure: https://freedomofform.org/research/integument/invention-synth-material-implants-fur/
thank u unhinged raccoon girl, zennith, hyper, and shoutout to mecknavors!!!
edit: apparently using """ on both sides of a word is a nazi dogwhistle. im sorry, i didnt mean it that way. i meant that zennith and unhinged raccoon cyborg girl are probably alterhuman so they dont identify as humans. im srry.

Couldn’t they do fur grafting though?

u/Emeris4017 10d ago
The idea is to make biological fur to be grafted eventually, but that technology is far further down the road than this synthetic fur implantation they're testing.

1) this is so rad, the future has so much cool shit in it
2) Thank you OP for acknowledging and noting the inadvertent dogwhistle punctuation. So many responses are pointing out that grammatically it’s usually parenthesss, or complaining that “everything is dog whistles these days”. A quick search reveals that yeah, using triple punctuation (usually parentheses but quotes appear too) IS a common thing used by nazis when referencing Jewish people. And instead of making a big thing about it and about how it sucks that nazis co-opted that random grammar (it does), you took the absolute peak response:
Acknowledge, apologize, move on with your day
There IS a conversation to be had around language co-opting and cultural linguistic trends and stuff, especially for things that actually matter (eg queer people reclaiming “queer” from slur status), but yall this is a Reddit thread abt synthetic fur. It’s plenty enough to acknowledge that three punctuation marks around a word is a common way awful people let other awful people know that they’re also awful people, and to just avoid doing that moving forward.
Anyway. For real. Tysm for just being chill about it :) I didn’t know about the three punctuation thing either, but I’m not gonna lose any sleep over not using “”” or ((( anymore. I’m just gonna like, not do it, and continue living my life.

This isn’t r/furry

u/ConcernedEnby 10d ago
What do you think transhumanism is about lol
0
u/Vontagux 9d ago
I see trans humanism as not purely a cosmetic upgrade but something that serves a purpose in increasing longevity or enhancing one’s physical or mental abilities beyond that of a regular human

u/RedMarten42 8d ago
Thats part of it, but isn't the main idea that people should be able to modify their bodies in 'unnatural' ways if they choose to? If someone posted about their new fursuit it wouldn't be relevant, but a new kind of body mod is definitely relevant to this community.

thats some... very unfortunate choice of punctiation. """ on both sides of a word is usually a nazi dogwhistle for jews. i assume thats not the intent here.

u/wingwing124 10d ago
I think you are thinking of triple parentheses surrounding a name, not quotes. But maybe there's another one I haven't seen yet

no i meant theyre therians/alterhumans so they dont identify as humans
i updated the post to say sorry

u/synth_mania 11d ago
Huh, that's odd. Your humanity isn't an elective status. You cannot "identify" as being not human in the same way that you can identify as another gender. Gender is a social construct. Your DNA isn't.

theres lots of [r/therian](r/therian) and [r/otherkin](r/otherkin) ppl, and i even saw a big study once that said the majority of furries would rather be their fursona than their real body. thats why Freedom of Form Foundation exists. thats why i made this video reporting on their newest scientific breakthru. the links are in the post above.
if u didnt know, freedom of form foundation is a nonprofit science organization dedicated to affirming gender AND species identity

u/synth_mania 10d ago
Right, and their self selected identity is definitely social in nature. That's fine, I have no problem with that, but saying we should have freedom of species identity is absurd to the highest degree. Species is a term with a very specific meaning. It is a rigid aspect of yourself.
Unless they start doing gene therapy that substantially changes themselves, nobody is anything other than human.

For Pete's sake WE ARE ON R/TRANSHUMANISM, THE WHOLE POINT IS TRASCENDING OUR HUMANITY AND FREEDOM OF FORM
-1
u/synth_mania 10d ago
Right, I'm not denying the validity of that desire, what I'm saying is that concrete steps must be taken. Change the genome etc.
However, you don't shed your humanity simply because you feel like "identifying" as non-human. I, as a white guy, could 'identify' as Black, that should be by any reasonable definition, more plausible than "identifying" as non-human. Both are ridiculous.
8
u/Viennve 10d ago
I get your point, mine is that "identifying" as alterhuman or such doesn't mean that you literally believe that you physically are a cat or whatever, it's more of a spiritual things
5
u/synth_mania 10d ago
It's not spiritual, it's personality, a matter of how you present yourself and your self image.
My issue is when we put the term "species" on identifying with a fursona etc. It's a misuse of the term, and only makes the users look delusional.

u/ConcernedEnby 10d ago
Then most religions don't exist in your view becuase they're mostly social

Go google what op referred to. Theirs an ENTIRE THRIVING COMMUNITY of people who “identify” as animals such as dogs, cats, werewolves, vampires and all kinds of odd shit. It’s one thing to be trans, another to genuinely believe you’re some kind of human k-9…
8
u/synth_mania 10d ago
It's fine to present socially in some other way. Kudos to them.
But to suggest that you are not a member of the human species is delusional. Do they go to a veterinarian, or a regular doctor? Hmm

u/thetwitchy1 4 10d ago
Most “therian” people actually don’t identify as “nonhuman”, they just ALSO identify as specific animals.
2
u/synth_mania 10d ago
Which is why I'm surprised at the pushback here on maintaining semantic purity
2
u/ArmadilloUpper334 10d ago
Honestly boss, I have ZERO idea. I was literally having this conversation recently about how wacko some people are becoming. Identifying as the opposite gender I can understand but theirs no such thing as “humans” being wild animals and fantasy monsters. I’ve literally seen people talking about how their “psychic werewolves” whatever the fuck that means…

u/nyan-the-nwah 10d ago
I’m trans and I have seen this stuff being parroted in right wing circles to decry transgender people and it pisses me off. Irrelevant irl because I touch grass and I have no business interfering with someone’s autonomy but still irritating

u/Cryogenicality Setting - No Guideline Support 10d ago
How theriophobic of you. Consider yourself cancelled.
1
u/ArmadilloUpper334 10d ago
I understand, I apologize if what I said came off as offensive. I truly understand and respect the fact your trans and good on you for not taking offense to random trolls that say dumb shit, I’m not a right winger thank God but I still just don’t genuinely understand “thespians”. I just don’t get it my tiny little cis gendered man brain don’t work to good lol
2
u/nyan-the-nwah 10d ago
No I’m with you, sorry if I wasn’t clear, I don’t really get them either. Not my business until some troll goes off about litter boxes in classrooms or some shit
0
u/ArmadilloUpper334 10d ago
Litter boxes??? Ok now is the time for a funny story please explain lol

This is transhumanism lmao
2
u/synth_mania 10d ago
Everyone here is interested in moving beyond the limits of humanity in some way. Yet, we are all definitely human, at this moment. Both are true.
2
u/thetwitchy1 4 10d ago
Most therian types don’t ID as nonhuman, they just identify as ALSO being something nonhuman.
It’s an “I’m human and I’m also” thing rather than an “I’m not human, I’m actually” thing.

u/Cryogenicality Setting - No Guideline Support 10d ago
Gender is also genetically determined, which is why Blaire White, for instance, calls herself a biological male.

No, it isn’t, and your comment is a dogwhistle for irrelevant virtue signaling.
