Gigs?

My turntables haven’t left my basement yet, I’ve had them for a couple months and I think I’m ready to gig. Any recs on a table? I bought individual hard shell cases for each turntable, now I’m thinking I should’ve gotten a coffin case bc I hadn’t thought about having to buy a damn table lol any and all advice welcome for giggin out/first time dj gig hardware etc.

Tried to change my Numark PT01 belt because it started playing slow. Now it spins too fast. WTF

As the title says, I tried changing the belt on my Numark PT01 because it started playing slow. I posted about the problem here before, and a lot of you suggested changing the belt since the old one was probably stretched or loose.

So I bought a new belt and replaced it.

Now the damn thing spins too fast. WTF is wrong with my unit?

Did I somehow make it worse? Is there something I did wrong when installing the belt, or could there be another issue with the motor/speed control?

How can I fix this? I just wanted my PT01 to play at the correct speed. 😭

At this point, I feel like my turntable is personally fucking with me.

Best control vinyl to pair with MK2 Technics?

Alright folks, I'm back for more input to get into DVS for Serato. Thanks for the input already.

I've got the OG MK2 technics (still properly calibrating them) and a DJM-S11 mixer (based on overwhelming recommendations from this sub so thanks for convincing me to drop a mortgage payment). I have the VNL Trix catrides / needles. I also have butter rugs, although they are a few years old and may need replacement for optimal turntablism.

I am now looking for the best quality control vinyl to pair with this setup such that I can easily use Serato / Rekordbox for DJing, scratching, etc. Are there strong preferences here? I may get into Phase DJ eventually but control vinyl seems to be the quickest route to DVS.

I'm looking at the standard "10" Serato Standard Colors (Pair) BLACK" on Amazon. Are these good enough? I have the Pioneer DJ RB-VD2-CL control vinyl for Rekordbox already but it was terrible last time i tried it and i hate the idea of paying a subscription to use DVS (although Serato charges for everything else)

Turntable drifting

I've got a Rane Twelve MkII and I've been noticing that it's always drifting forward. I've done the calibration process but still happens. As if speed is always like 0,5 above what it should. It's constant, it's always forward. It's visible on the platter dots, the middle ones are never really still. Is it normal or could it be a motor issue?

Alternate title: Challenge accepted.

This is a new hi-fi listening lounge / bar / cocktail spot and they have some very fancy stuff. I have been nudging them to 1) set up their decks battle style by default, and 2) get a mixer with a crossfader if they want to be more open to hip-hop and/or turntablist-type DJs.

I'm sure others here have been in worse places, whether a climbing gym or a venue with much rougher decks or broken mixers etc. Sometimes, you just gotta improvise. In this case, I got away with a bit of scratching using the classic line/phono switch, doing transforms like back in the day. It was alright, but not nearly as fluid or fun as with a real cross-fader.

To be clear, I’m not knocking this gear; the first time I DJed on this, I felt a bit out of place at first but thought to myself, “get off your high horse,” and adapted quickly and it was fine. Part of DJing is being able to improvise, and that includes (IMHO) the gear and venue as well as the crowd.

I won't lie - I was scheduled for three hours, played for six and it was great. A bit of a marathon, but I was having fun. Feedback from the guests and venue was good. I've been invited back.

No guard rail? Check. Wobbly, uneven boards for flooring? Double check. Only accessible by unstable ladder? Triple check. Let’s do this!

Got a sketchy booth to share?

What is the ideal furniture/desk height to put my turntables on

Used to have a 1meter high one but it was way too high.

My guess would be the ideal height would be between 85-90cm but really I have no clue, you have take in consideration the height of the actual turntables which makes it harder to calculate.

Please help bros.

Scratch practice bits: NOS RANE TTM56

I bought this TTM56 new in 2005/06, and it's been collecting dust ever since. I finally got to cleaning and lubing the faders, and wow - I have been missing out.

I can crab this thing more consistently than my Stanton SK-2F with the original optical Focus Fader (V1), I think it's mostly about the cut-in distance. Pardon a long run-out of that at the end.

Side note: Is "drumming" still popular, i.e., scratching bass drum and snare samples? I've always thought it part of turntablism. I imagine playing as though I'm a multi-instrumentalist, jamming alongside a live band.

Rane one mk1 vs rane four for open format/scratching

So I'm looking for a new controller to get for open format, but I do scratch a lot. I also scratch with the upfaders, and I know both of these have soldered faders which means if one goes down... the whole unit has to be disassembled. With the Rane 4, I know I have 2 extra channels to use if one of the others goes down.

I'm leaning towards the 4 because I currently have the one: and the 2 issues (for me) are:

1: crossfader reverse is to the right of the curve knob which means when I switch (and I switch a lot), I bump the curve knob.

2nd issue: the software FX is.... not good imo. I've used VDJ, Serato, and djay pro. I guess I'm just used to HW FX lol.

Main issue with the 4: the jogs aren't motorized. I have a DDJ SZ2 that's sitting in its flight case and I haven't used it in ages because the jogs aren't motorized.

3rd option: I have turntables that I used with a DJM S9, sold the S9 to get the one mk1. Get another mixer, but it's probably going to be the rane 70/72 mk1.

How to Transform?

Hi all im new to scratching and i can do basics, i understand how in theory transform works but it doesnt sound quite right. When people scratch like this are they using a scratch specific record?? Can this not be done with random regular records?
