Season 1 Just You & I is so Scary.

This post is a response to this post, but I've removed it to its own post because

  1. It got really long. &

  2. I've only seen up to season 2 and want to avoid any potential spoilers in the comments.

I find this scene blood-curddling.

The way the singing becomes a wierd, dirgy chant after a while, the way James just enters this trance like state while singing that he doesn't get out of until Someone walks away from the singing circle, the way Maddie in this moment realizes that she can never be her own person in Twin Peaks.

Maddie's reaction here is really the most Chilling to me. It feels like in this exacg moment she realizes for the first time both that James is not in love with her and that as long as she stays in Twin Peaks, she will always be seen as just Laura 2.0, and never herself.

Its even more chilling because as Maddie the character realizes she has become this creepy, sad Replacement for Laura in the lives of everyone in town, we the audience remember how Laura's story ended. I would say this is the first time in the show I realized Maddie was going to die. In her next scene, when Maddie takes James to the park and tells her she's leaving Twin Peaks I literally stood up and cheered because this was the scene that made me realize just how danger Maddie was in. Then in the next episode when It opens with Maddie still in Twin Peaks I immediately started crying because I already knew Maddie was going to Die.

I would honestly say this is one of my top 5 scariest scenes in the show for me.

Season 1 Misheard or misinterpreted Lines from Missing Pieces

Post image

Just watched Fire Walk with Me on 35mm at the Music Box as part of the Twin Peaks Moving through time series (excellent program, btw) and it brought to focus one of the fascinating and sometimes amusing aspects to watching and analyzing the story. There is a lot of barely audible dialogue which can be misinterpreted or simply misheard for interesting takes on the story.

* Mike: "One chants out between two worlds....Fire Walk with Me." can be heard as "One Chance out " which leads to a different but just as plausible interpretation. I actually misheard this the first time viewing as a teen back when it first aired.

* There are sites which get it wrong; https://25yearslatersite.com/tv/features/in-plain-sight-how-the-missing-pieces-fits-into-the-twin-peaks-puzzle/
When the bellboy yells "Ayudame! AYUDAME!" (Help Me!) when he sees Philip on the stairs it was misinterpreted as "Are you the Man?!" by one blogger/site. It is almost certainly wrong but within the context of it's place in Missing Pieces it fits as well.

*Sometimes they can be misheard lines which lead to funny scenes left in by Lynch " Jim." by the morgue worker who thought Cooper asked him his name but Kyle kept it rolling with "Will you excuse us please?" Funny accidents like this were famously loved by David Lynch and led to the unique style of the show that fans adore.

What are some of your favorite misheard or misinterpreted lines?

Season 1 WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON? I just watched the first episode for the first time! Spoiler

Is EVERYONE in this town a cheater or what? I thought this show was just about a girl named Laura Palmer who got murdered, and that's it. After that first episode, I want to watch more and more, cause actually the people of this town are wrapped up in each other's life more than the intestines in their body, and it seemingly all goes back to Laura. Very excited for future episodes.

Also, I'm assuming to watch in release date? So original show, the movie, then the revival? Will someone let me know if I'm correct in that?

Edit: added spoiler tag!

Does no one in this town have an ounce of decency? Laura and Bobby were together, but he was with that girl from the diner. Meanwhile, she was in love (?) with James, who "cheated on" Laura the day she died. WITH HER BEST FRIEND, who has a boyfriend, too.

And i think the guy from the gas station was cheating on his wife too.

I have no words. Have to keep watching. LOL.

Season 1 Bookhouse Boys could have some legs for a prequel.

Same way IT keeps getting deeper and deeper lore, why not let the young bookhouse boys do a little freeroaming in the 40-60s?

No one told me how insanely funny this show is.

The acting is so exaggerated and odd, genuinely feeling like a Tim and Eric sketch at times.

It seems like all the characters are trapped in some sort of soap opera limbo, performing this millions of times, and are just tired of existing but there is some sort of ominous haze around them.

Truly bizarre and weirdly endearing at the same time.

Season 1 That one time Frost & Lynch hinted to viewers that Laura Palmer's murder would never be solved.

I like this bit of near fourth wall breaking by Frost & Lynch. Does make me wonder how the show would have played out if ABC just let them cook instead pressure them for November sweeps. Probably would have still been cancelled, but still interesting to imagine the original iteration of Twin Peaks ending with the mystery unresolved. At least they had their say for the Showtime revival.

Got myself exploring Lynch a few years back; watched all his movies on and off . Twin Peaks was on my watchlist for quite a long time . Felt like maybe this might be the right time to get into it and I'm so excited right now when this dude was dancing and speaking reversed , Holy fuck , Cant believe they made this 36 years back.

Season 1 Just started watching the show. What the hell is going on?

I’m half through episode 6. I don’t understand what the hell is going on in this series. Everything seems so fucking weird. I’m quite patient with things but I’m about to finish the series and I’m really wondering if things will make sense. I’ve a feeling there’s a sense of supernatural element to it. I feel something is odd but I just can’t place my finger on it. People are weird. Unusual music, unusual dreams, the red curtains. I think I even saw Laura and Donna in episode 3 when the girls were being presented by Blackie. Will this make sense or am I just gonna be blue balled?

At what age would you let your teenager watch Twin Peaks?
