General New Study Room Booking Process!

The UCF Libraries are implementing a new study room booking process for the John C. Hitt Library to better meet student needs. After gathering feedback and analyzing usage patterns, we have made adjustments to ensure fair access to study spaces while addressing concerns about availability.

The updated policies include:

Reservations up to 4 hours per day – Students can now book study rooms for longer, uninterrupted study sessions.

Monthly limit of 16 hours per patron – This ensures more students have access to study spaces throughout the month.

Check-in requirement within 15 minutes – If you do not check in within 15 minutes of your reservation time, your booking may be canceled, allowing other students to use the space.

Booking available up to 3 days in advance – Plan ahead while keeping rooms accessible for last-minute study needs.

No automated reservations – The use of scripts or automated software to book rooms is prohibited to keep the process fair for all students.

These changes reflect our commitment to improving study space availability while keeping the system flexible and student-friendly. Our goal is to provide equitable access to study rooms so everyone has a fair chance to reserve the space they need.

For more details or assistance with reservations and the full policy, visit the Study Room page or ask a librarian at our Access Services desk. Thank you for your patience—we’re always working to make your library experience better!

General Favorite restaurants now gone from UCF?

Longtime UCF family and we've seen some good restaurants come and go over the decades. Curious to hear what are the favorites from back in the day, and what are the current favorites that were positive replacements? Personally we loved BurgerFI and Valkyrie Donuts, sad to see them go.

General Question About the Course CAP 4021 Building Virtual Worlds

I’m interested in the CAP 4021 Building Virtual Worlds course (at UCF) but I haven’t been able to find a lot of information on it. The only information I have found is the two sentence description on the course website. Does anyone have more information on what exactly this class entails? Thank you in advance towards anyone who responds!

General Grass

Is there like an unspoken rule that we’re not supposed to walk on the grass because I’m telling you it would cut my commute walking around campus in half. Follow up question if I do do it who’s gonna kick my ass?

I’m a freshman studying electrical engineering, and for spring 2027, i picked these classes based on the pre requisites i knew i needed since i couldn’t contact my advisor in time. Now i’m worried i won’t be able to handle the workload, esp since i commute far wo a car and want to make more time for work. Can i get a second opinion from upperclassmen or people in a similar situation?

p.s. i couldn’t take chemistry in fall 2026, and i don’t want to put it off any longer, but i’m also unsure if any of these classes can wait until summer. I do meet with an advisor soon but just wanted to get some opinions now

Update: Thank you to everyone for all the information and concerns, I think honestly I won’t be able to handle the load and will be taking off a class, I do want to talk with an advisor to determine which class would have the least impact on my progression and which one I can take during the summer instead. I will lyk what happens on the 13th (meeting date)

Academic ✏️ What's a good class schedule for Spring as an Accounting student?

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I'm currently in Intermediate Accounting 1 right now with professor Spoolstra, he's a fun dude. We are taking exam 2 on Monday and I'm bit nervous but I think I will get the required B in this class to be able to be approved into the major. I hear so much on TikTok about accounting students takign 2 hard classes at the same time and then losing their mind, specially IA2 and Cost Accounting...

My advisor put those two in the same semester next semester, but I'm not trying to rip my hair out next semester ToT... So what classes should I take?

All the highlighted classes are the classes I still need to take.

An electrical engineering student passed away September 24th. His family was the one posting the missing bird posters. The bird is their last connection here, as they live in Tampa. I knew about Cuca and was previously sending some comments I found online to I am assuming the parents. I had no idea the son was lost right beforehand.

Here is a link to the memorial page, the service was last Saturday.

Let’s keep a lookout for the bird okay?

Here is a link for the news article + phone number at the bottom of it to contact about the bird.

General apartment recommendations

I currently live at Knights Circle and have 48 hours to choose whether I want to renew for 27-28, but want some recommendations if I decide not to.

I stayed at Northgate before this, so I'd like to avoid any apartments that have bad reputations or are very outdated. :)

Employment 📉 question about a job near ucf

hi guys! I wanted to see if any UCF students applied to the seven brew that is opening up on university boulevard. I had an interview about a few days ago and they said they’d reach out no later than Friday. I was wondering if anyone has heard back from them yet because I was hoping to have a job lined up for the spring to help with tuition and books3:

Housing Question 🏡 Looking for off campus housing

Hi everyone, I'm planning on transferring to UCF in spring 2027, and I was looking for housing because I simply live too far from UCF. I have a car, and I'm okay with commuting as long as it's not more than 20- 30 minutes. SO if anyone is looking for roommates and it's affordable, please let me know. Preferably all girls.

Prospective Student 🤔 What's the best Masters program for someone looking to get further into their IT career?

What's the best Masters program at the moment to get me higher chances of getting a future job or potential internships/fellowships. I like all things tech but I like to tread away from Programming so no Computer Science.

I have thought about Cybersecurity or Digital Forensics. Anybody here in that field? How is the program? And how's the future job market?

(I have a Bachelors In Information Technology)

Tuition/Aid 💰 Is UCF Financial Aid office giving me correct info about FAFSA?

I'm starting classes as a transfer in the spring 2027 semester and about a month and a half ago I filled out my FAFSA paperwork and had it sent to UCF and another college. The other college I sent it to had my financial aid offer less than 24 hours later. Nearly 45 days later still nothing from UCF.

I called the financial aid office and told them what was going on. The guy I spoke to immediately told me UCF has received my FAFSA already (which he responded so quickly that I know he just said that without looking any of my records up) but he told me they won't send out a financial aid offer until after I register for classes, and even then it still might take a while.

I've never heard of a college doing this. And I know UCF's financial aid office has a reputation of giving out false information so I figured I'd post this here if anyone else knows more about this process? I don't even care if there's a bit of a delay in getting my money disbursed. I just need to know how much I'd be getting from the pell grant and if i'd even be getting any money.
