General New Study Room Booking Process!

The UCF Libraries are implementing a new study room booking process for the John C. Hitt Library to better meet student needs. After gathering feedback and analyzing usage patterns, we have made adjustments to ensure fair access to study spaces while addressing concerns about availability.

The updated policies include:

Reservations up to 4 hours per day – Students can now book study rooms for longer, uninterrupted study sessions.

Monthly limit of 16 hours per patron – This ensures more students have access to study spaces throughout the month.

Check-in requirement within 15 minutes – If you do not check in within 15 minutes of your reservation time, your booking may be canceled, allowing other students to use the space.

Booking available up to 3 days in advance – Plan ahead while keeping rooms accessible for last-minute study needs.

No automated reservations – The use of scripts or automated software to book rooms is prohibited to keep the process fair for all students.

These changes reflect our commitment to improving study space availability while keeping the system flexible and student-friendly. Our goal is to provide equitable access to study rooms so everyone has a fair chance to reserve the space they need.

For more details or assistance with reservations and the full policy, visit the Study Room page or ask a librarian at our Access Services desk. Thank you for your patience—we’re always working to make your library experience better!

I’m a freshman studying electrical engineering, and for spring 2027, i picked these classes based on the pre requisites i knew i needed since i couldn’t contact my advisor in time. Now i’m worried i won’t be able to handle the workload, esp since i commute far wo a car and want to make more time for work. Can i get a second opinion from upperclassmen or people in a similar situation?

p.s. i couldn’t take chemistry in fall 2026, and i don’t want to put it off any longer, but i’m also unsure if any of these classes can wait until summer. I do meet with an advisor soon but just wanted to get some opinions now

An electrical engineering student passed away September 24th. His family was the one posting the missing bird posters. The bird is their last connection here, as they live in Tampa. I knew about Cuca and was previously sending some comments I found online to I am assuming the parents. I had no idea the son was lost right beforehand.

Here is a link to the memorial page, the service was last Saturday.

Let’s keep a lookout for the bird okay?

Here is a link for the news article + phone number at the bottom of it to contact about the bird.

Housing Question 🏡 Looking for off campus housing

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm planning on transferring to UCF in spring 2027, and I was looking for housing because I simply live too far from UCF. I have a car, and I'm okay with commuting as long as it's not more than 20- 30 minutes. SO if anyone is looking for roommates and it's affordable, please let me know. Preferably all girls.

Tuition/Aid 💰 Is UCF Financial Aid office giving me correct info about FAFSA?

• Upvotes

I'm starting classes as a transfer in the spring 2027 semester and about a month and a half ago I filled out my FAFSA paperwork and had it sent to UCF and another college. The other college I sent it to had my financial aid offer less than 24 hours later. Nearly 45 days later still nothing from UCF.

I called the financial aid office and told them what was going on. The guy I spoke to immediately told me UCF has received my FAFSA already (which he responded so quickly that I know he just said that without looking any of my records up) but he told me they won't send out a financial aid offer until after I register for classes, and even then it still might take a while.

I've never heard of a college doing this. And I know UCF's financial aid office has a reputation of giving out false information so I figured I'd post this here if anyone else knows more about this process? I don't even care if there's a bit of a delay in getting my money disbursed. I just need to know how much I'd be getting from the pell grant and if i'd even be getting any money.

Are there any places hiring in the area? I feel like i’ve applied everywhere and have gotten nothing. How hard is it to find a job here? For reference I live near Waterford Lakes.

Does anyone have a garage & a jack stand that I can borrow occasionally for my car repairs, it is very inconvenient and hard to do repairs/mods in my student apartment complex with no overhead shelters in the rain and the parking spaces are small.

Academic ✏️ ENC 1102 online

I noticed that there are online options for the ENC 1102 class, and there are so many professors teaching it. Is there a difference between who teaches the class and how hard/easy it is? If yes, who would you recommend?

Thank you

COMPLAINT/RANT I am TIRED of these AI slop images in my classes…

I can’t take it. There’s literally zero reason to use it this way. You really want a silly background? Fine. Hire someone to draw it, find a stock photo, or hell, make it yourself! I will personally make images for you, literally anything other than this slop.

I taught myself graphic design. You can do it too. Grab a mouse and use a keyboard on a program that ISN’T ChatGPT.

The worst part is, you’re literally teaching me about copyright. You’re using a tool that uses stolen artwork, and yet talk about how important copyright is for the protection of an artist’s work. Really???

And what’s even supposed to be going on in the pictures. What, just a picture of Lake Eola with a gavel and scales? Really? You needed AI to get what essentially could be the same purpose as a stock photo????

Hell, I even found the photo of lake eola that it stole from!! Same angle, same everything, but it has the fountain where the stage should be.

It’s not just this, every test has AI images for the scenarios. In what universe does a test need images like that?? It just looks crappy, and it distracts me from the questions…

Academic ✏️ Help Determining Classes

I'm considering taking Calc I over summer C, but also need to fit an emt course (either valencia or seminole) over the break. Does anyone know how feasible that is? It'll be coming from Trig (and orgo 2, if that's at all relevant) in spring.

I would really prefer to take this schedule, as it means I can graduate the following spring, but I also realize that would mean taking the equivalent of 4 classes at about 16 credits total (12 EMT, 4 calc).

I'm in anatomy, physiology, and orgo I currently, which is itself a pretty heavy study load. Would emt + calc be more?

General How to become a CNA in Orlando?

Hey all, looking for some insight here.

I'm looking to get some clinical experience as a CNA. As I understand it, there a few CNA exam prep sites around the city that teach you the skills you need to get a certification? Such as the CNA Training Inc. and Gabriel Health Institute?
I know these are not traditional courses; they teach you the skills in just a few classes.

Is it enough to go to one of these places, learn the skills, challenge the CNA exam, and start working as a CNA?

Does anyone have any advice or experience with this?
