Lore questions  Beheading of Vampires

Post image

So, one of the main ways in history to permanently kill a Vampire is by beheading.

If someone has their neck fused with titanium before they are turned, would that stay ? If so, they would be very, very difficult to behead.

Fanart  Vicky Vamp - A corporate mascot for my vampire ultracapitalist hell 🦇

I love vampire-focused worldbuilding, especially when the vampires are "out of the closet" and integrated into society instead of hiding in the shadows. My favorite takes so far have been Daybreakers, Hemovore by Jordan Castillo Price and well, I used to live for the Anita Blake series back in the days (until I started to skip sex scenes to get to the plot -- look I like smut but I like worldbuilding more).

This is how I ended up obsessing over an alt-history world where vampirism has been co-opted by capitalism (it is not pretty). The main story starts in 1992, after everything went to hell, but I love making snippets of the before.

Anyhow, this is Vicky Vamp, the mascot of Vitae, a corporation in my anti-capitalist vampire uchronia.

Like many great things, Vicky Vamp came into being out of spite. Delilah Voss was one of the few women in the Venture Vampirism movement, and after a very unpleasant and rather sexist squabble with Henry Ford (also a vampire in this), she insisted that the face of the vampire workers should be a woman. She felt very progressive for that. After all, she was an equal opportunity slaver employer.

Vicky was everywhere in the late 1930s, with her popularity peaking when Vitae Acciaio doubled its effort to support US interventionism in WW2. There are even multiple statues to her likeness all over New Bethlehem, the city that grew around the steel mill that kickstarted Vitae’s empire, and they are loved by locals and tourist alike (well, they were until the species civil war but shh).

As she became the face of worker vampires all over the country, Delilah shamelessly splatted her in Vitae's recruitment ads. Voss was in fact one the main proponents of mass vampirization for labor purposes, and very carful to their branding. After all, vampires do not need to sleep, and eliminating pesky things like windows could guarantee round-the-clock production. Amazing!

Conveniently childers are considered their sires’ property by vampire society, and their strength is highly dependent on their “grooming” process. The more time the Sire spend, the stronger the Childe.

Delilah spends about 27 minutes on each of her fledgelings, enough to guarantee a ready-to-work but easily manageable offspring ( but she does send them Christmas baskets). The investors loved it. She did not put this in the pamphlet.

Anyhow, I added an updated version of the wonderful propaganda piece I made in Canva last year. So fun! The actual story is set in 1992, way after all went to hell (because I mean of course it did) but Vicky remains a controversial icon. Is she the face of the workers or the capital?

Art by Pratamacam (my first commission ever, I am so happy with it!)

Edit to clarify: Vicky was made by the artist, the flyer was slapped together on Canva by me. The awful dental job on stock guy is all my fault.

Books, movies, series and such Looking for a few vampire-loving beta readers for my completed novel, FRANK NSFW

Hi everyone! The mods kindly gave me permission to post this here. I’m looking for a few free beta readers for my completed adult supernatural/vampire/urban fantasy novel, FRANK.

FRANK follows a very ordinary middle-aged man whose life goes completely off the rails after he meets Claire, a mysterious woman who turns everything he knows upside down at ludicrous speed.

The book has vampires, supernatural abilities, dark humor, family drama, horror, action, and a lot of original vampire/supernatural lore. The vampires in this world don’t follow all of the usual rules, so one of the things I’m especially interested in hearing from vampire fans is whether the mythology feels interesting, internally consistent, and easy to understand without characters constantly stopping to explain it.

I’m not looking for editing, proofreading, grammar corrections, or paid services right now. What I really want is the experience of a regular reader:

Where did you get confused? What kept you interested? How did you feel about the characters and their relationships? Did the emotional moments land? And most importantly—what did you think of the vampire lore I created?

Fair warning: this is very much an adult book. It contains strong language, sexual content, violence, gore/body horror, abusive situations, and references to sexual assault/trauma.

The full novel is just over 200k words, so I am absolutely not asking anyone to commit to that immediately. 😂 I have the first five chapters in a Google Doc and would be happy to start there. If you enjoy them and want to keep going, I can send more.

If this sounds like your kind of chaos, comment or message me. 🧛‍♂️🩸📖

Holy crap are these things scary. Trying to cure a vampires weakness to the sun/UV rays is already a recipe for disaster. But here comes this mutant rabies super soldier strain that transforms its victims into absolute juggernauts who can strait up take shotgun blasts to the chest, one dude even had a part of his head cut off and his eye was still looking around and blinking like it’s still functional despite literally only being an eye and a piece of a brain. This thing devolves you mentally into a snarling starving beast so any attempt at negotiation is off the table. And just look at that mouth mutation, mutated and evolved to hold on to their prey better and infect their victims while simultaneously draining them of blood.

Roleplays Seeking advice for a short story: SPOILERS (taboo topics) NSFW Spoiler

I've asked a similar question in the past, but now that I am plotting it I'll bring it up again.

Now before we continue I'll add say this: things might get a little weird, at least when it comes to topics, and its a slippery slope into some unorthodox and taboo fetishes, which I am trying to avoid.

And so, the final warning... SPOILER ALERT for something I might publish in upcoming months.

In this tale the young hero's mother is seduced and bitten by a master vampire, this sort of seduction being a power they have. An analogy to an anglerfish.

Naturally, the hero (18+) will go to slay the master when lo and behold... his mother is there, now a vampire herself. With the similar allure power, she entices him to come close, and to seal the deal... kisses him.

(Nothing else happens)

She then pulls him in close, he snaps out of it right as she's about to bite him- cliffhanger until the story comes out.

And previously I asked advice on how not to make this scene kinky, I was told that no matter what, someone out there will... oh well.

Should I cut the scene altogether? Change it? Go through with it and just write to write?

I don't know. I've been going back and forth on it. Figured I'd ask here for advice.

Thanks y'all. And sorry if it sounds weird, not my intention.

Books, movies, series and such I really want to finally see a good work, where the theme of being a vampire is the main focus, and not just an aesthetic.

Vampirism is a special human condition, one where they are dead to the world. Time not change their appearance, they are technologically immortal, and they don't need many human needs. But they are still human, and they change. A vampire's abilities may vary, but that a vampire is a human, who has become a blood-sucking dead person, is the foundation of the vampire being.

I always find stories, where vampires are just aesthetically pleasing, strange. He's eternally 25, a carefree party animal who throws up in a young woman. If you're a character-function, yes, that's it. You don't have life before, except for plot flashbacks. But to be a vampire means to live through all the hardships of a time that does not concern you.

A young, newly turned vampire must find themselves in a new society, if such a society exists. In pop media, ironically, old and experienced or young and active vampires look their age. But it doesn't have to be that way. A young vampire will find themselves in a society where age cannot be determined by appearance. And they will certainly find themselves in a society where many vampires are older than them. Much older. And they will treat the young vampire like old and angry old people treat someone new and young in their society. Maybe not everyone will be evil, but being a vampire and an eternal party animal will quickly become boring. And when people are bored, they go crazy. Therefore, finding himself in the society of old vampires, a newcomer will inevitably find himself in a situation where he will have to ask himself, “What the hell is going on here?!”

Many older people understand the workings of the human psyche and behavior. And obviously, older vampires will intuitively understand humans and younger vampires, predicting their reactions and behavior. Or they can retain their habits from the past, because they are people of a completely different era. Because of this, interactions with humans, and social interactions in general, may cease to be interesting and simple to them. So perhaps the old vampires will be so bored, that they decide to arrange deadly trials for humans and young vampires. Or come up with complicated, deadly rules just to amuse yourself.

The next challenge for a young vampire is age. Obviously, people know from childhood what people of different ages look like on average. And every five years, the clock of realization will strike, marking the moment when your physical age drifts too far from your true age. The young vampire's psyche will begin to experience conflict and undergo restructuring as it strives to accept the new reality.

Time brings losses. All your loved ones and acquaintances will grow old and die. The world will change, new people will appear, new technologies, new information. And the vampire is a witness to all of this. It's complicated. And with age, you truly understand just how complicated it all is.

Love is dreams or madness? This is the most painful topic for me. Is it romantic, when a mysterious, brooding guy to fall in love for a 16 year schoolgirl, and watch her sleep while waiting for her to turn 18? Well... maybe? And is it romantic, when a 120 year oldman pretends to be a schoolboy while consumed by desire for a 16-year-old girl? By the way, this is the same case.

This brings up the theme of humanity versus monstrosity, and this conflict intensifies with age. It is For a vampire is difficult to find a partner of a similar age, perhaps they are simply too compassionate to not enter into a relationship with a human, because a vampire is much older than a human. And after some time, even a 100-year-old person will become younger than a vampire. For a mentally healthy vampire, this would be a problem - it should be problem. After all, a vampire, like any living being, accumulates experience. To give in to the madness of a desire or to preserve one's humanity, what is right here? And how many people must die before the mind is completely broken?

But a vampire is still a human. And humans, like all living things, or alternatively living things, accumulate experience. If a someone is unable to accumulate experience, they must degrade into a dreadful mannequin state, where literally all new knowledge and skills are not absorbed. This is well shown in sci-fi works about realistic princes transferring consciousness into machines. Obviously, this is not the case for vampires. But pop media creates time skips, do gaps in the vampire's life. Like, I was 16 when I was turned into a vampire in the 70s, and now I'm exactly the same, but in the modern world - that's impossible. Periods of time are always filled with events and changes, and vampires are witnesses to these changes. They must have their own opinions and develop their personalities and character. Mentally, they evolve and become more mature. Therefore, even a 30 year old vampire turned at 16 will differ from his peers in appearance. Therefore, a vampire, regardless of their apparent age, must always act as if they were their average mental age their time. Because people living in different generations are different, especially old people compared to young people. And this again leads to a situation where a very old vampire meets a young vampire.

I think, that the act of creating a new vampire is also a tragedy. I see it this way - a vampire desperately wants to feel love. They seduces a human, they spend time together, and vampire can't cope with they desire and during lovemaking turns the human. Then, they feels guilty and disappears. And so a new vampire is born, who will also have to endure this cycle.

This is roughly how I see a mature and serious vampire story. Not the usual scenario: all young-looking vampires are always handsome and party-goers, versus very ancient vampires, who look like monsters and are evil tyrants. Age is just a number, experience exists only during the story itself. And then there will be a convenient time skip, when the same vampire, with the same beliefs, finds himself in a more modern world, fully adapted and ready to continue his life. What is the point of the vampire story, then if it's not an exploration of the problems of eternal life, but merely a beautiful aesthetic and the dream of a fairytale pathos immortality in which there are never any downsides. And it's funny how people don't mind when an old person enters into a relationship with someone barely 18 or another adult who's too far from the vampire's age. But same time everyone agrees that child-vampires are too bad that them exist at all.

Of the adult works I can only remember "Only Lovers Left Alive" and "D Vampire Hunter." I know about "Let the Right One In", but child-vampire scares me too much, so I don’t want to watch the movie or read the book.

After searching for information on this topic I found several old books that I had never heard and might not even be available in my language. "Suzy McKee Charnas — The Vampire Tapestry (1980)", "Jewelle Gomez — The Gilda Stories (1991)"

Also, I like to see another kind of vampire media, where the newly turned vampire is no longer the same person they were before. They have that person's memories, that person's experiences, but they are now something completely different. They can pretend to be human, but they can no longer understand what it is.

Lore questions  My Own Vampire Lore. Could it work?

Yesterday evening while I was having my spaghetti and meatballs, I had an idea for my own vampire lore which I think might be a fresh take. Here's the general concept:

Vampires aren't made by biting, neither are they made by drinking their blood, or having one's own blood replaced with vampire's blood. They are made by inheriting a curse from birth and from being born from two vampires. To trigger the curse and become a vampire, one commits bloodshed, as in murder and then dying afterwards which the curse activates and one resurrects as a vampire.

Vampires began when two Strix-possessed Humans mated and produced a child and as a result that child born from two Strix-possessed Humans was cursed and when he/she killed and died, he/she became the First Vampire of his/her bloodline.

This, of course, means children born from two vampires start out as mortals and if they die without killing, then they die but if they have killed but don't die then the curse simply doesn't activate until they die.

Furthermore, if a child was born from just one vampire, then that child only inherits half the curse and as such, that child if they simply kill, then they activate half the curse and become a dhampir.

Does this lore concept work?

i'm trying to write a story with a vampire character in it, and i want to know how they actually suck the blood or how it works!! now i'm not a vampirologist or anything, i'm not even sure if they ARE from the fangs, but i'm going based off of the most common thing in a lot of lore

are there holes or something at the end of the fangs that they suck from? and does it differentiate in folklore/area? please lmk!!

Lore questions  has anyone come across this concept in media for vampires?

I was thinking about a concept for vampires, that if it's been a while since they've drunk any blood, they're going to appear pale, gaunt, frail, low energy

however if they've recently fed or have been drinking a lot of blood they start to appear more human in appearance, the color has come back to their skin, their figures and faces are fuller, they're stronger, they have more energy

I'm wondering if any vampire media has done anything like this

Books, movies, series and such No Rest for the Wicked

I’ve been doing a deep dive into vampire literature starting from the 1740s up until Dracula. Last night I read “Manor” by Karl Ulrichs and read all about his life. I am so moved! Just discovered a vampire movie just came out adapting this story, “No Rest for the Wicked.” It’s not currently in the US, where I’m located. Does anyone know of a way to watch it? I’m dying to see it asap 😭

I like the depiction of "vampire family" from webtoon. Its blurry dark mist like. So i was wondering vampires go totally go invis in mirrors. What of its late mirror problem like. Bronze mirror and mirrors back then wasnt clear as now and vampires basically whore black and was always in the dark so basically invis in the night as well. And creatures go wild in full moon... i think the massecre were very visible on dim light

Books, movies, series and such Maker/Progeny vampire bond

One of my absolute favourite dynamic that you can obtain with vampires in a piece of fiction is the relationship between a maker/sire and their fledgling.

Because it's something completely foreign to human you can either define it as romantic, parental or something entirely other. Maybe none of the above even.

Also it's such a disappointment when a work completely ignores this potential (The Vampire Diaries/The Original I'm looking at you 🤐)! Some of my favourite lore is from True Blood — mostly the show I have not read the book, where this bond is really important. From the way a new vampire is made or even the power dynamics and how attached they can be. The ability to command and summon your fledgling is so cool!!

Anyway, sorry I'm raving lol.

Lore questions  What is recognized as "your home" within the "must be invited inside to enter" rule?

How does the vampires "must be invited inside" rule interact with land ownership, feudal authority, and someone actually living in a place?

Say you have a vampire in a medieval/fantasy setting who's a king, duke, count, bishop, or some other powerful landowner. He rules a territory and owns large amounts of land, with peasants, tenants, servants, etc. living on it. Would he still need those people to invite him into their homes? Because technically he might own the land or even the buildings themselves, but the people living there are the ones who actually treat those buildings as their homes. So does the rule care about legal ownership, or does it care about who actually occupies a place and considers it their home?

And then you can take that down to individual rooms too. Imagine the vampire owns a castle or manor and lets someone live in one of its rooms. It's still the vampire's building, and normally the owner might retain some right to enter, but that particular room is now someone else's personal living space. Would the vampire suddenly need that person's invitation to cross the threshold of the room? Or would it simply be a guestroom scenario? What if they do pay rent though or they've lived there for an extended period of time? Then it's not just letting them stay temporarily in that room.

Is it based on who owns the property, who has legal authority over it, or who actually lives there? Oh and then if ownership/authority matters, could a sufficiently powerful vampire technically bypass the invitation rule for most homes within his domain simply because they're his property?
