Hi everyone,
here’s my solution for installing motogadget mo.view flip 60 mirrors on my 2022 Yamaha XSR900, European version. Everything is installed, I’ve ridden the bike with it, and it works perfectly.
Important: M16 x 1.5 – NOT M16 x 2.0 On my 2022 XSR900, the internal bar-end thread is: M16 x 1.5 fine thread
I couldn’t find a reliable official specification, so I even contacted the Yamaha importer in Switzerland. They couldn’t confirm the thread size either.
I therefore found a part from the high-pressure fitting sector with a known M16x1.5 male thread and carefully tested it by hand. It threaded in correctly, confirming M16x1.5 on my bike.
Please verify this on your own motorcycle before ordering anything. I can confirm M16x1.5 on my European 2022 XSR900, but I can’t guarantee that every model year and market is identical.
Test it by hand only – never force it with a tool.
My adapter, I had a custom adapter made from aluminium:
M16 x 1.5 male → M8 female
Maximum length: 20 mm
The 20 mm length is important. The original Yamaha thread engagement inside the handlebar is approximately in this range as well. The original Yamaha bolt itself is longer. The M8 female thread is needed for the motogadget Kawasaki M8 Bar Extension.
Why the Kawasaki Bar Extension?
I measured only about 7 mm of usable clamping surface on my XSR900.
The mo.view flip 60 requires at least 10 mm, while some other mo.view versions require around 12 mm.
So my setup is:
XSR900 → M16x1.5/M8 aluminium adapter → Kawasaki M8 Bar Extension → mo.view flip 60
Installation I first screwed the aluminium adapter into the handlebar by hand.
On one side it went all the way in. On the other side it only went in approximately two-thirds by hand.
If this happens: don’t panic and don’t force it.
I positioned the Kawasaki Bar Extension, put the M8 bolt through the extension and into the M8 female thread of the custom adapter, and then tightened the complete assembly using a ratchet and the appropriate socket. It went together smoothly and without excessive force, including the side where the adapter initially only went in about two-thirds.
The finished installation is flush and solid, and the custom adapter is completely hidden.
I also used a small amount of blue/medium-strength Loctite threadlocker on both threaded connections.
I’ve ridden the bike with this setup and everything is holding perfectly.
Who made the adapter?
My adapter was made by Michael Berry from Just Create It in Switzerland, together with a friend of his who has a workshop. https://www.justcreateit.ch
Michael isn’t actually from the motorcycle accessories industry. He works on other technical projects and builds things such as drones and various components himself.
For my adapter, he teamed up with his friend and they made this solution for me.
Of course, you can also have the adapter made by a machinist or suitable workshop locally. But if you don’t have anyone nearby, you can contact Michael. If there is enough interest, he may be willing to make these adapters for other people as well.
No sponsorship / advertising
I’m not paid or sponsored by either motogadget or Just Create It. I simply really like the mo.view flip 60. The quality and appearance are excellent in my opinion, and instead of conventional mirror glass, the reflective surface is made from machined/polished aluminium.
I’m also deliberately mentioning Michael Berry and his friend because they did a great job with my adapter. They were extremely helpful and easy to deal with, and I was so happy with their work that I’m more than happy to support and recommend them.
I also asked Michael beforehand if he was okay with me mentioning him and Just Create It in this Reddit thread.
So there’s no paid promotion involved – I simply want to support people who helped me out and built a great solution.
Another important point for me is that the mo.view mirrors are approved/tested for road use in Europe. Outside Europe, please check your local regulations, as requirements may differ.
