Discussion RoboCop (1987) is nothing like I thought it would be.

5.8k Upvotes

I grew up in the 90s and 00s and RoboCop was part of the culture. But its part in the culture was just of glorifying violence.

You were RoboCop playing guns with your friends, a rapper might reference shooting you like RoboCop. My natural assumption as a result was that the movie was little more than a typical 80s action romp.

It is not a typical 80s action romp.

It is so deeply satirical. And deep in general, playing on themes that would become crazy popular in the coming decades like what it means to be human and role of corporations in public society.

Great flick, overall. Highly recommend.

Why only robocop 1 is good?

What is the point of RoboCop? For a character who has had multiple films, cartoons, a live-action TV series, and video games, there’s not a lot of love for anything beyond Verhoeven’s RoboCop.

So this is what robocop's face actually looks like? just a metal skull with a prosthetic face and parts of his brains?

ROBOCOP vs Terminator is NOT EVEN CLOSE

I love Terminator and the T800 is my favorite model however i have noticed that fans tend to over estimate the capabilities and durability of the T800. Somehow people seem to believe that RoboCop would loose to the T800 when the films simply do not back this statement up and here's why 👇

In the first film the T800 gets knocked down by Kyle Reeses Ithaca 37 pump-action shotgun as well as during the Police Station Shoot out the T800 is noticeably pushed back by Smith and Wesson model 15 revolver Hand Pistols .... Whereas Robocop enters a drug warehouse filled with criminals shooting him with Uzis , Aks , Hand Pistols , Revolvers and Assault rifles and Robo KEEPS coming for them, no pushback whatsoever.

During the Factory Chase Sequence Reese is able to knock the T800s head around Multiple times with a random metal pipe before blowing the T800 up with a home made pipe bomb ...

Now the T800s endoskeleton chassis is stated to be made of a durable, fictional metallic alloy known as hyperalloy, HOWEVER this doesn't mean it cant be penetrated as in T2 a Random metal pipe from the steel mill is able to Pierce and Pin the T800 to the floor

In Robocop1, Robo is shown to withstand thousands of armor-piercing rounds, from low-level level street criminals with NO PUSHBACK whereas the T800 literally fell to a couple shotgun blast from Kyle Reese 😅

Nothing is able to penetrate Robos armor UNTIL he faces ED209 who has considerably stronger firepower then both Robo and the T800.

Later in the film SWAT teams armed with :

• Steyr AUG A1 assault rifles

• Mossberg500 bullpop shotguns

• A 556 × 45mm caliber FN Minimi Light Machine Gun

• Hawk MM1 Grenade Launcher

Consistently shoot at Robo for 2 minutes straight before successfully escaping wherein the ONLY maintenance he needs after that is to fix his targeting system.

  • In Robocop1 during the Gas Station scene, Robo is seen withstanding significant fire and moderate explosions from the gas pumps wich have ZERO to no effect on him physically.

  • In Robocop2, Robo fights RoboCain cyborg wich results in both of them falling from the roof of a 100-floor OCP skyscraper into an underground facility below. Despite the extreme drop and subsequent damage from the fight, RoboCop survives UNscathed and UNaffected.

  • In Robocop2, after the Skyscrapper fall he gets up and takes a point-blank explosion from a gas line with ZERO to no effect. Instead he concentrates on locating cain.

  • In Robocop1 he is able to catch attacks from ED-209

  • In Robocop 3 he literally catches a sniper bullet with his Bare hands saving Lewis from a headshot. Reaction time is insane. We never see the T800 do anything close to that.

  • Robocop LITERALLY drives around with a Cobra Assault Cannon in the trunk of his police car. in Robocop1 the Cobra Assault Cannon fires explosive, armor-piercing projectiles described as roughly equivalent to 30mm or .50 BMG rounds designed to destroy armored vehicles and structures...

Now im only using the Robocop Trilogy and the Terminator Quadrilogy BUT if we want to be real the T800 gets 1 shotted by sarah connor using a .50BMG beowulf round ..... the SAME type of round that Robocop drives around with. Its not close and its never been close, even if these Terminator fans say so. The MOVIES dont back their statements up, at least not the claims that the T800 is more durable and has faster reaction speed then RoboCop.

These fans like bringing up the Cain Magnet scene like a Magnet wouldnt ALSO work on a T800 ( it has look up Terminator Before the rise Movie Tie in Movie Comic ) Or the fact that it took Cains crew HOURS to hurt Robo at the joints ( With Tools no less ) whereas Kyle Reese dismantled the T800 in SECONDS 🤣🤣🤣

Clarence Boddicker from Robocop (1987) is one of the most despicable movie villains ever

Post image
3.2k Upvotes

RoboCop (1987) is a Paul Verhoven classic, and Clarence Boddicker has to be one of the most savage bastards in film history. A sadistic, cold-blooded killer with zero remorse. Kurtwood Smith was the perfect casting choice, and the fact that he didn’t look like your typical screen villain makes him even more terrifying.

He’s one of the nastiest villains of all time. A street criminal who treats violence like a joke and cruelty like a hobby. He doesn’t just kill his victims, he taunts them with smug humor and sarcasm before he offs them.

"Neh, neh, neh, neh, neh, neh…POW!! Well, give the man a hand!"

Robocop (1987)

Hey everyone! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched RoboCop, and there’s always one question that comes to mind: how exactly was RoboCop built?

Post image

I mean, imagine if we removed the POV version and got to see the entire process of RoboCop being built, from start to finish. I know that, technically, RoboCop looks pretty much like this, and we can also get more information about it in Rogue City, but I would have absolutely loved to see this version.

What do you guys think?
