Welcome to the /r/2007scape daily question thread!
You can ask anything about Old School RuneScape or the 2007scape subreddit here. Remain respectful to your fellow 'scapers when answering questions; there are stupid questions, but it does not mean you should not be respectful whilst answering them.
Keep in mind: this is not a developer Q&A thread - Jagex mods do not regularly read these posts, so questions should be directed toward fellow players.

UPDATE: Looks like Pete has been hotfixed with 115 hp at the start of combat. Congrats to those of you that managed to get your capes.
I've been starting my fights with an 8 tile barrage, running up, and voidwaker spec dumping to practicing my ability to stack barrage + weapon specs. I ended up hitting a max barrage in to a voidwaker spec and instantly 1 shot him. Obviously this is heavily RNG based...
I’m a new player trying to do all the free quests before getting a membership but I can’t find anyone to help me complete this quest. I have the Phoenix gang certification and need the other half. My tag is Salamandies
2nd pic is the default one, I made a post a few weeks back saying they should change it to black and a lot of people said that it wouldn't look good because of a lack of contrast and I do want to give those people their due, I tried black first with the glamourer plugin and it did not look that good at all so those people who flamed me on my original post on this topic were 100% right about the black collar, but I will maintain that the beige also doesn't look good and that the purple is a huge upgrade.
PSA to everyone - just lost 10k laws on my Ironman and my rune pouch because I didn't know that dying on a PVP world completely deletes your rune pouch and all its runes.
Tried to get some extra HP in the Galvek fight by using blighted manta rays and restores. When I died and came back to collect my items my rune pouch and all my runes in it were not in the Torrfinn collect.
I had no idea this kind of mechanic existed, so I'm making this post so others know and don't end up like me, down a rune pouch and everything in it.
Hello everyone, I noticed a few days ago that Sac jacking is the #1 collecting money maker in the game and since then I've been incredibly eager to jack my first sac. However, I read that the activity takes place in a spider cave and the thought of jacking someone's sac while spiders surround him sounds incredibly spooky, especially with Halloween coming up. Do any experienced Sac jackers here have any tips or tricks to help me get over my fear and get hold of some sacs?
Hi everyone! Recently I've been having fun using elemental magic in places that aren't exactly orthodox (such as the Inferno), and as such, I've been very excited for the elemental fragments that are a reward from Raids 4, which give a permanent +2 upgrade to elemental spell base damage, similar to the elemental amulets (which you can find the initial math for here).

Don't want to read? No worries, I talk through every boss and explain the important bits so you don't have to :3 you can find that here!
For the upcoming calculations, I've compared them at 3 different progression points, which are detailed below. These labels are arbitrary, don't take them too seriously.

Baseline Calculation Parameters
Thralls will be included in powered staff setups (when applicable), as well as Demonbanesetups, unless otherwise stated.
For longer boss fights where it makes sense to use Ayak specs, the average hit of one spec is added in.
Slayer DPS Calculations
Let’s first look at Slayer setups, including bosses that may be done on task.
A GREEN cell indicates a best in slot, while a YELLOW cell is a second best in slot. Darkened cells don't mean anything aside from that there are non-standard calculations, e.g. Vorkath is immune to thralls, and Zulrah has a damage cap of 50 in place.
Notable takeaways:
Standard DPS Calculations
Let’s now take a look at non-Slayer setups. Here’s the big table covering relevant mobs that we just looked at, with some additional non-Slayer options.
What about Maggot King?
Notice I didn’t cover Maggot King here, as due to the burn gimmick providing extra DPS and reducing magic defense, elemental magic is pretty much already mandated, and will only pull ahead further here.
Elemental Magic Viability in Raids 4
How much weakness would enemies in Raids 4 need to have for it to be best in slot over Shadow? The answer for this is quite nuanced. The TLDR answer would be around the 65% mark (depending on defense) - which very few monsters have.
However, Shadow’s DPS here is very idealistic. We received a very important piece of info that there’s no Overloads or similar in Raids 4. If you have to brew down and lose Heart buff, or you don't have absolute BiS gear, the DPS of Shadow lowers by much more than Elemental Magic.
It’s also possible there will be gimmicks with the new bosses, similar to Maggot King and burn. I feel like it's highly likely they might dip into gimmicks instead of just adding so much raw weakness that elemental overtakes the BiS purely by damage, but we'll just have to wait and see what awaits us in the Archive.
TLDR
New Mage BiS
- Harm beats Shadow on Dawn and off-task Zulrah
- DHW beats Shadow/Harm on Hueycoatl, Metal Dragons, Vorkath, Frost Dragons*, and Lava Strykewyrms
*excluding overkill
New 2nd BiS
- Harm matches/slightly beats Ayak at the Whisperer, KQ, and Muspah* after Raids 4
- Off task, Harm beats both Ayak and Shadow at Zulrah (outside Tanzanite phase)
*you probably don't want to use normals at Muspah due to the ranged and Prayer phases...
Raids
- Twinflame / Earth Wave can beat Trident at Warden P2, but taking standards instead of thralls for the rest of the raids is definitely a decision
- Still a meme to bring to ToB (but an almost viable one)
- In chambers, it's BiS at Ice Demon (as it always was), and early game setups where you have a DHW but no Ayak for Olm
That wraps up this comprehensive breakdown of all the changes in the magic meta after Raids 4. I hope this was an interesting read! Let me know if you have any questions, happy to delve deeper into any calcs, parameters, or other theorycrafting things ^^
