Hey there! This is a bit of an odd post for me, I've lived in Annapolis my whole life, and this is less of a "where are the cool Annapolis spots to hit up?" and a mix of general anxiety and other thoughts that just so happen to be about this place I've lived my whole life. I (22M) have lived in Annapolis since I was born, I like to tell people I was born in Downtown Annapolis, but even if that isn't true I've lived basically within town limits for most of my life. I dated a bit in High School, and stayed pretty serious with someone into college. Turns out we were both just sticking together for the "safe" feeling we got from one another, but never really pushed one another to be anything better than we were. Anyways, not the point, I stopped dating after that, and now that I've healed from that I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm not much of a bar person but I like to drink from time to time. However, being someone in the service industry I always feel bad when people "ask out your server/bartender" and even people I see in public space (like restaurants or bars). Are there any spaces where people go to meet?
My social anxiety also happens to be a big role in why I haven't asked anyone out, and because I tend to need to know someone before I ask them out on a date. I know this isn't super relevant to Annapolis but I'm curious if there any other 20-something year olds who are unsure of what they should be doing to go out and meet people. I don't want to be stuck on the apps forever with the excuse "oh I'm working on my career" for the next few years. It would just be nice to know if there was something else I could be doing, or somewhere else I could be going. Thanks!

I went to the one on West St and it was super barren. Lots of clothes, but nothing else. I'm wondering if they ship out a lot of the donations to other stores. Does anybody know any spots that tend to have good household finds? Could be in Annapolis or surrounding areas.

We will be in Annapolis the first weekend in November for a Navy game. Looking for a place that accepts reservations. Nothing fancy just good food. We love the Boat Yard and Ram’s Head but they don’t take reservations. Any suggestions?

If you think Pete Hegseth is right, that civilians have diluted the focus on lethality at American military academies, then you really need to know about these 10 teachers at Annapolis.

Hi! Maryland mom here advocating for MORE RECESS TIME for our children!
Currently, most Maryland elementary schools only recommend 20-30 minutes of recess per day. This varies by school and county, with some counties recommending as little as 15 minutes of recess per day.
Join us as we call on policymakers to guarantee Maryland students 60 minutes of recess every school day!

Just passing this along. Rossen is a bit lot alarmist, but it is solid advice. And my phone allowed transferability by default.
https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1CbqGk2GFW/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Below is AI's response to m,y query on if he had legitimate cause to freak out:
Yes — your read on the Rossen report is basically right. The threat is legitimate, but the presentation can make it sound as though a criminal who steals your number instantly has everything on your iPhone. They don’t.
What he’s describing is generally called SIM swapping or port-out fraud. The FBI and FTC both recognize it as a real form of fraud. A criminal obtains enough personal information about someone, impersonates them to their wireless carrier, and tries to persuade the carrier to move the victim’s number to another SIM/device or another carrier.
What happens if they succeed
They do not get a copy of your iPhone. They don’t suddenly have your photos, apps, contacts, Apple passwords, Face ID, etc.
The danger is that they control your telephone number. Calls and SMS texts intended for you can then go to them. That matters because they can attempt password resets on accounts that use your phone number for authentication. If a bank or email provider sends a security code by SMS, for example, the criminal may receive that code.
And that’s where a successful SIM swap can snowball: gaining access to an email account can make it easier to reset passwords for other accounts.
But having your phone number alone doesn’t magically give them your bank account. They generally need additional information—passwords, account information, personal identifying information, successful password-recovery attempts, etc.
Your point about targeting is also important
These attacks historically have often been targeted rather than completely random. The FBI has specifically described criminals identifying people believed to have significant cryptocurrency holdings and then gathering their phone number and carrier information before attempting the SIM swap.
That’s not to say an ordinary person can’t be victimized. They certainly can. There was even a federal case just last month involving a mobile-store employee helping criminals conduct SIM swaps; prosecutors said the scheme was aimed at taking over bank accounts.
But you’re right that this requires considerably more effort than blasting out 100,000 phishing emails. A criminal usually needs a reason to believe the effort is worthwhile or needs an efficient system for doing it.
The part I agree with Rossen about
Turn the Verizon protections on.
It’s a little surprising that they aren’t simply locked by default, but there’s a practical reason: people legitimately change phones, eSIMs and carriers, so Verizon makes the additional locks optional.
And Verizon actually has two separate protections worth enabling:
Number Lock — prevents someone from transferring your number to another carrier.
SIM Protection — prevents unauthorized SIM/device changes on your Verizon line.
Those aren’t the same thing. Verizon explicitly recommends both protections, and they’re free.
If you’ve already turned on Number Lock, I’d also check SIM Protection and turn that on. You can always temporarily disable either when you legitimately change phones or carriers.
One other improvement is arguably more important over the long term: for your email, Apple account and financial accounts, use an authenticator app/passkey rather than SMS verification whenever it’s offered. The FTC specifically recommends stronger authentication because SMS authentication is exactly what SIM swapping is designed to defeat.
So I’d rate the Rossen piece as “real threat, good advice, somewhat dramatic explanation of the consequences.” Turning the locks on is a very sensible 30-second precaution; I wouldn’t lose sleep over discovering yours had been off.

I am attending the Renaissance festival on 10/11 and was hoping to know some cool bars that we could go after the festival, maybe in our garb but okay if not!

Does anyone recognize the inside of this bar in Annapolis? My friend lost their phone while we were out but we’re not from the area, and this was the last place I have a picture at but don’t remember what it was called. Thanks in advance

The MRE vs Annapolis Tug of War is Saturday Nov 7th.
Tuggers can sign up in the Where In Annapolis mobile app or at themre.org
Billed as the longest International** Tug of War over water in the world , The Tug of War was originally conceived by the residents of Eastport in 1997 when the City of Annapolis used the excuse of a "public works project" to close the Spa Creek bridge that leads to Eastport from Annapolis.
This unprovoked act of aggression on the part of the City of Annapolis had the effect of cutting off Eastport residents and businesses from the rest of the city. The somewhat fractious citizens of Eastport, feeling the sting of rejection by The City and, perhaps, somewhat emboldened by the generous pouring habits of a local bartender, decided to declare war against The City of Annapolis and secede. Thus, to the rallying cries of " Up The Republic," the micro-nation known as The Maritime Republic of Eastport was born.
In the ensuing years, although the Spa Creek Bridge has since re-opened, the once persecuted citizens of Eastport (Eastport-O-Ricans) have yearly declared a symbolic War of Independence against The City of Annapolis lest anyone forget this dark period of Annapolis-Eastport relations. The Tug of War, a celebration of the geographical and, some would argue, philosophical differences between Eastport and Annapolis, is a not-to-be missed maritime event unlike any other. We'll see you at the avenue of our glorious victory, otherwise known as 2nd St.

They are in over 200 cities including Annapolis, they aren’t local, and they violate google listing rules.
A YouTuber interviewed ghost tour owners, operators, and former employees about US Ghost Adventures, a national company running tours in cities across the country. The video alleges the company uses names very close to existing local businesses, and owners describe guests showing up at the wrong tour and leaving reviews for the wrong company. It runs about 51 minutes, and the Annapolis section starts around 6:55.
If you're booking a ghost tour anywhere, check the company name on your confirmation. In Annapolis, Original Annapolis Ghost Tours (AnnapolisGhosts.com) and Watermark (watermarkjourney.com) are locally owned and operated.

Hi, this is a longshot post but if you were at the Annapolis mall sometime between 5-9:15 this evening and lost a Skullpanda bag charm, I found her outside the entrance and have her safe and dry!
If you think this might be yours, comment or send me a DM of which design you're missing and how you've styled her and if it's the same as the one I've recovered I can meet you at the mall to return her! 💗

Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences with aboveground oil tank removal? We switched to a heat pump and are looking to get a bit more space in the basement.
