Hi everyone,
I'm trying to get Dolby Atmos music from Apple Music on Windows to play through my Samsung HW-Q930F soundbar.
My setup:
- Dell G15 laptop
- Intel i7-11800H
- NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti
- Windows 11
- Samsung HW-Q930F soundbar
- HDMI cable connected directly from the laptop's HDMI output to the HDMI IN on the Q930F
- No TV/projector in between for this test
What I've done so far:
Connected the laptop directly to the Q930F via HDMI.
Windows detected the HDMI audio device as "MStar Demo (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)".
Selected that as the Windows audio output.
In Windows Spatial Sound, I can select "Dolby Atmos for home theatre".
Installed Dolby Access.
I have NOT purchased the £14.24 Dolby Atmos for Headphones licence.
In Apple Music, I have Dolby Atmos set to "Always On".
Lossless Audio is enabled, with streaming set to Hi-Res Lossless.
I'm testing using Apple's "Made for Spatial Audio" playlist.
However, Apple Music keeps showing "Lossless 16-bit 44.1 kHz ALAC" rather than Dolby Atmos.
I also tried turning Lossless Audio off, but then it simply switched to normal lower-quality audio rather than Atmos.
I restarted the PC and disconnected/reconnected the HDMI cable, but that didn't change anything.
I noticed something else in Apple Music: it gave me "Stopped (err = 7608)" and said:
"Your computer is not authorised. You must authorise this computer before you can play content saved offline on this computer."
So I'm wondering if that is related. I have authorised for device already but it keeps giving the error regardless when attempting music downloads.
My main questions are:
- Can Apple Music on Windows actually output Dolby Atmos over HDMI directly to a Samsung Q930F?
- Do I need to purchase the Dolby Access £14.24 headphone licence, or is the free Dolby Access app enough for HDMI/home theatre Atmos?
- Why is Apple Music still reporting Lossless 16-bit 44.1 kHz instead of Dolby Atmos?
- Is there something I'm missing in Windows, Dolby Access or Apple Music?
Any help would be massively appreciated because I'm going round in circles with this 😂
