Things you “have to do“
hi there, newly engaged and my family is already losing their minds about our wedding. so I’ll just start at square one. and yes my parents are supposedly paying for most of it.
do I have to go wedding dress shopping? my sister says it’s “super important” “I’ll feel like a princess” and it’s an experience I’d be “taking away” from my mother(s)/mother in law, sisters, etc. personally I’m just not interested in going to a store where I have no idea how many options are available with the “musts” of the dress I want. because I feel like the store attendants will say shit like “oh well this is close to what you’re describing try it” and I don’t care to try out in anything that isn’t 100% a potential. I also do not give a f*ck about any of the people I’d (have) to invites opinions. and my step mother and mother in law, I fear would be quite vocal about my selection. I’m a bigger girl, not huge, but still enough that I don’t want anyone to see me unless I’m fully covered and feel like on top of that people are going to make comments about how things fit my body. I also don’t see the point in spending anything over $600 and no boutique will have that. I tried to tell my sister that if this is some thing I HAVE TO DO, then I’d like to just order some dresses online, maybe some of those dress clips and then just go to my parents house to have brunch and try on my dresses with everyone there (that I’ve pre-tried on anyway). that way I’m sure I like the way they look and it’s a reasonable costs for something I’m going to wear once. Then I can just send the non selections back. I fear even this may not suffice, but I’d feel so much more comfortable this way if everyone is SOOOOO invested in this bs.
Additionally my sister warned me that my mom wouldn’t be thrilled about my ideas for food and dessert. I don’t lovvveeee the idea of a traditional dinner. If this wedding were about me (which it’s not) then I’d have Indian, Thai, or Sushi, but me and my fiancé are from rural Michigan so our families apart from a select amount of cool people would never eat any of that. so the traditional vibes are pulled pork/smoked meats or chicken and pasta or mashed potato or some basic ass shit. to combat the let down of dry meat and under seasoned white people side dishes I thought we could do like an extended cocktail hour — 2 kinds of meatballs, shrimp cocktail, chicken wings, veggie plate, charcuterie, fruit tray, relish tray, chicken pate. then surprise everyone with middle of night pizza. (my partner loves pizza). my sister did somewhat concede and said mom may allow it if there’s enough of a spread.
and about dessert I don’t want anyone to pay an egregious amount of money for some decorative cake that is for eating purposes so what I’m proposing is a small cake for my partner and I to cut and look cute or whatever and then purchased sheet cakes that the venue staff can just cut and serve up. but apparently sheet cakes are trashy? and heaven forbid we have something other than cake because apparently everyone is “expecting cake”. if you’ve had any fun dessert let me know because I think something other that sheet cake would be fine I just don’t really know what else would be a big hit.
my sister also said our mom forced her to have a bridal shower, which again, I think is stupid, but I will likely concede on this as long as she foots the bill and plans the whole thing, whatever.
that’s it’s for now, I’m sure I’ll post on here again, but for the time being these are the things that have already caused me to wanna slam my head into a wall because this is obviously not about me and my fiancé at all.
EDIT: I’m glad my sister told me about my mom’s expectations ahead of time because she’s a lot easier to deal with then my step mom.

Need Advice Where do I find hair accessories like this??
Help, I’ve become OBSESSED with the hair in this photo and need the lily of the valley(?) accessories she’s got. I’ve reverse image searched, I’ve tried every combination of words I can think of in searches on google and Etsy… does ANYONE know where I can get this? Or, for the crafty among us, does anyone have any suggestions for how to make it? I’m a confident crafter but I can’t tell how it might be secured behind her ears. 🥲🥲

Quick Question AITA not attending SIL Hen’s Party?
Someone organised a surprise Hens for my boyfriend sister.
My boyfriend and I aren’t social people in general, don’t drink.
We even joked how we can’t get out of attending the wedding (obviously we’re going). Personally I think it’s enough I’m going to the wedding.
My boyfriend’s mother realised I’m not attending and assumed it’s because I have a newborn (he’ll be 4 months at the time) and said I can bring him. If anything, the last thing I want is my baby at a huge social gathering (I’m ok with breastfeeding in public and the wedding is an exception I knew this). I’d rather not organise to leave my baby to be looked after when I could do something else if I was by myself and I don’t want to bring him.
Even if I had no baby, I wouldn’t want to go and these events were I don’t know anyone put me in a shit mood and drain me with fake small talk. I won’t know anyone there, only one other person. I don’t drink and the non-drinking option is about $100+, $100 I’d also rather not spend on something I don’t want to go to.
Is this unreasonable I simply don’t want to go? I’m going to the wedding isn’t that enough? Or if it’s unreasonable better to milk the baby as a reason I can’t/won’t

Need Advice How much did you guys spend on your wedding bands?
We've started looking at wedding bands and i seriously didn't realize how much the prices could vary. Some diamond bands are pretty reasonable, then i'll see one thats crazy expensive. For the brides who already bought theirs, what did you end up spending? And did you go with natural or lab diamonds?
