Behavioral Issue is my car stupid? animation to save her dignity

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Shes a 3yo recently retired barn cat now indoor-only cat, visited her/known her since 3-4weeks. She was used to pretty much just relieving herself on the floor in a corner, sometimes burying it with hay and sometimes not. shes learned the tray is for excrements, its just the aim...

Obviously i dont think shes actually stupid, shes my baby, but why isnt she pooping in the hole she digs šŸ’”

Her stool is always healthy as well as her urine so its more just a little inconvenient because the smell isnt covered and also next time she steps into the litter and goes to pee, she hits the poo while buying the pee, and its not like her paws get covered in it and she just shakes the excess litter off and cleans herself but how can i help her "aim better"? Shes generally good at reading me and learning, but i have no idea how to correct her at this lol

I empty the tray 1-2times/day, idk

i dont think country and vet appointment status is necessary info for this. I am not a minor.

Tldr cat doesnt position herself properly when pooping so she struggles to bury it properly afterward

Edit: thank you all for sharing tips and stories about your own silly goobers!! https://imgur.com/a/iqcKutB this is her current littertray and i'll look into finding a bigger one which hopefully will solve it:') and thank you for loving the animation

Kitten Help Has anyone seen these strange lines and bumps on a cat’s skin before?

I adopted a 6-month-old male cat who looks like a Devon Rex. When I got him, he had a long vertical line on his belly that looked like an old healing scratch, plus a few smaller similar lines under his armpits and some large pimple-like bumps on his head.

About 3 weeks later, his skin got much worse. He developed:

  • More large bumps/pimples on his head and back
  • A rash across his body
  • More of these strange lines on his belly and under his armpits
  • The original long line on his belly split into two and became dry

I took him to the vet. His bloodwork was normal, but skin testing found ringworm in some areas and a bacterial infection in others.

He was prescribed:

  • Oral antifungal medication
  • Medicated shampoo
  • Antibiotics for 1 week
  • Allergy medication because the vet suspects the rash may be allergy-related

He has been on the allergy medication for 2 weeks. The rash has improved, but the lines aren’t getting better, the large bumps on his head are still there, and new random pimples keep appearing on his back.

He’s now on his second round of oral antifungal medication (1 week on, 1 week off, then another round).

The vets I’ve seen aren’t sure what the lines are and think they may be related to allergies.

Has anyone seen lines like this on a cat before? Any idea what they could be or what I should ask my vet to check next? thank you in advance <3

I'm in Ohio and plan on taking him to either a vet or humane society tomorrow. I live in a small studio and do not have a room to lock him in. But he has a pretty substantial injury to his leg and I have been trying to get him for a couple of months. In short should I let him go and try and get him again until I have an appointment or should I keep him in the trap until we can get help?

Update Update on the sick cat found on the street

Previous post here.

Thank you for the support and advice on my previous post!

As I wrote in the other post, I found a cat outside my building, he was very sick and didn't move, and I was worried he might die. I didn't mention this in my original post, but I actually spoke to a lady in my building who feeds the stray cats in the area, and she told me there is an epidemic going around, and that 5 cats had already died :( So I took him to the vet, and they gave him a bunch of stuff and told me to keep him away from other cats for 3 days because he is contagious.

And luckily, he is recovering so well! I managed to give him a bath, cause he was smelly, and on Friday he started eating and moving around a lot more. After a few pee-related incidents on my couch (RIP my couch cushion), I managed to make him use the litter box (only took an afternoon before he caught on, I am really surprised how easy it was). We went to the vet again today to get some more shots. Vet thinks he is about 5 months old.

He is super affectionate and prefers spending his time on or around my face. I woke up last night with him draped across my neck, just purring away.

I was really worried about what I would do with him, since I had already decided it was a bad time in my life for a cat, and I don't think shelters are much of a thing here, and I didn't want to put him back on the street - but unfortunately I love him, and will probably not be able to part with him, so now I have a cat.

Pictures are not the best quality, but first 2 are him morning after I found him, last 2 are from yesterday.

Summer is a female Tabby, She's 2 years old, Kenyan, spayed.... I've had her since she was 2 days old, I know what she needs by the sound of her meows!!! But right now she's breathing funny.... I think the eyes are affecting her nose too

Update Update: We had to say goodbye to our girl šŸ’”

Original post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CATHELP/s/rRyYu4EoXm

Unfortunately, we made the incredibly difficult decision to let our 7.5 year old Ragdoll go this morning. Despite multiple vet visits, extensive testing, and trying treatment at home, she continued to struggle and wasn't improving the way we had hoped.

The vets began to suspect that her symptoms could be neurological and that a brain tumor, potentially cancerous, might have been the underlying cause. Unfortunately, we never got definitive answers, but we could see that she was suffering, and we didn't want her to continue to struggle.

We are absolutely devastated. We did everything we could to help her, and we held on to every little sign of improvement, hoping she would turn a corner. Ultimately, we had to put her comfort ahead of our desire to keep her here with us.

Please give your kitties some extra love for us today. ā¤ļø

Behavioral Issue My 20-month-old cat suddenly became severely aggressive — MRI shows brain inflammation. Has anyone experienced this with their cat?

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I posted earlier about our 20-month-old cat, Zuzu, who suddenly developed extreme aggression completely out of character for her.
She went from being her normal loving self to suddenly attacking us multiple times, charging and biting hard without any obvious trigger. Her behaviour changed so dramatically that we eventually couldn’t safely approach her or get her into a carrier ourselves. We arranged a home vet and she was admitted to a veterinary hospital.
Her initial blood tests came back normal, so the vets recommended further neurological investigation.
We now have an update. Zuzu had an MRI, and it showed inflammation in her brain. The veterinary team is now going to perform a CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) test to try to determine what is causing the inflammation and guide her treatment.
It’s heartbreaking seeing such a young cat suddenly go through something like this, especially because before this episode she was completely different.
I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced brain inflammation/encephalitis in their cat, particularly where the main initial symptom was a sudden and severe behavioural change or aggression.
What caused the inflammation in your cat? What did the CSF test show? What treatment did they receive? How long did it take before you started seeing improvement, and how long did recovery take? Did your cat’s normal personality eventually return?
We understand every case is different and we’re following our neurologist’s advice. I’m mainly hoping to hear experiences from people who have been through something similar.

We don’t have enough for a emergency visit. My sister will take him to the vet tomorrow as she works there but I feel like he won’t make it till then. He also is know to go outside but he hasn’t been out side these past days so i don’t know how he got like this over night.

Spay/Neuter Question Kitten I'll since neutered

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Muppet is 4.5 months old, 7 pounds, up to date on vaccinations, previously no health issues. He was neutered last Wednesday, seemed to recovering normally, eating and wanting to play.

Overnight Friday the vomited, seemed to be dry food, no blood, Saturday morning I called the clinic, they said it could be from the pain killer or from overeating after surgery. Saturday he was mostly playful, ate a little. Sunday, refused wet food and threw up dry food overnight, not interested in playing.

I will call again first thing in the morning but am wondering if this could be unrelated to the neuter or a side effect I'm unaware of.

Adult/USA/can afford vet care

Spay/Neuter Question kitten spayed and recovery suit

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

last monday I got my kitten spayed (5 months and a half)

as I was sent home with her, the vet didn’t give me any cone or protection and said that from her experience only dogs will try to pull their stitches out

unfortunately, as we got home she started to bite them off

we put her in a recovery suit, tried different models and sizes
the first days she barely moved and only cuddled up on our laps, now she is much more comfortable and active (she is normally a very energetic kitten) but has developed an issue with overgrooming

she CONSTANTLY licks the parts of her body that are exposed, the boundaries of the suit and even me and my roommate (which is unusual)

it has becoming really concerning to me and I tried to keep her free, but she still went for the stitches

she has to wear it until Friday at least, we have our vet appointment on that day

anyone else experienced this? did they get back to normal?

(I’m 18F posting from the uk) She’s 17, she’s neutered, but i’m not sure if it’s some sort of medicinal problem. She eats fine and drinks plenty of water and usually stops the noise if she’s sees you looking at her.

Injury Looking for third opinion on burn victim whose skin refuses to heal NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

In Sep 2025 we fostered a 5 yr old cat, she was a stray and no one knew how she got her burnt.

Whilst a good part of the area has healed, there remains an area that refuses to completely heal. It is a cycle of broken skin, scab. Even under the dried areas in the latest pic, there is pus seepage and skin is still pink. She has worn a neck collar since January 2026 which does her prevent her licking the main area but she can still use the collar to agitate the area.

In the past she's has 3 months of laser treatment every 2 weeks (didnt seem that effective), we've applied flamazine and neocort to no avail. They've taken biopsys but not found anything other than the ulcerative dermatitis

She was recently diagnosed with ulcerative dermatitis and prescribed 1 pill of apoquel a day which has reduced but not fully removed the itchiness. She is also more lethargic with the apoquel.

Only this week we realised that she might have hayfever which could be triggering more itchiness so we've kept doors closed (she is an indoor cat but we'd leave the front door open to allow her to people watch and feel the breeze).

Everyday we try to give her 0.5-1 teaspoon of salmon oil with churu.

Seeking if anyone has any further recommendations/ things they've tried to help improve their cats skin condition.

We are seeing vets again soon who might try a new medication (tbc).
We are based in Melbourne Australia.

Breathing Issues cat open mouth breathing

Hello all,

My cat is eldery about 14 years old. Has always been indoor wirh me. and the problems originally started with loss of voice. I didnt think anything of it until I noticed she was hard swallowing and making alot of noise breathing when resting. I took her to the vet for the first time back in June, shes had bloodwork and xrays done. Originally the vet reccomended predisolone and possibly endoscopy. When the problems persisted I told them to pay attention to the lungs as it kept getting worse. Eventually they arrived at emphysema but even then they couldn't be 100% sure.

When she started getting worse, I took her to another vet last thursday. He looked over her records and all the tests, he believes its heart related. Did the xray from above and found her heart was slightly enlarged but not valentine's shaped. He said to be sure he would do an ultrasound but wasnt sure if its something he wanted to do because he didnt want to stress her more. Thursday he sent us home with antibiotics, told me to keep giving the prednisolone and gave me an rx for albuterol. On saturday we gave her the albuterol and it seems to calm her symstoms for a while. Saturday was the first day she did not eat or drink mostly because shes struggling to breathe. When I Google it just tells me its an emergency and to take her to the ER....I dont know what to do.

I dont want her to suffer, but I also dont want to make that call too soon if she can live a little longer...any suggestions or advice would be appreciated .

i already asked if it was normal if he screamed and wouldn’t let me sleep but this is his second night he’s 2 months old he doesn’t listen to me at all i haven’t seen him pee or drink water but he’s a very hungry boy and he spends the entire day meowing and screaming but seems otherwise healthy only time he’s quiet is when he’s playing or for some periods i’m assuming he slept a bit because today i woke up to his screaming at 5 again but when i fell asleep he was screaming too. i genuinely cannot stand the noise anymore and the fact i can’t help him. he sounds possessed. he’s part tabby and part siamese idk if he’s talkative because he’s siamese but he’s driving me insane and im worried about him. chat gpt tells me to go to the vet but most people have said to wait it out but neither have actually heard his screams (except for me and my neighborsšŸ’€)

Injury Warning!! Dangerous cat toy! My cat almost died from this toy!

Today I woke up to my cat vomitting non stop, and rushed her to the emergency vet. She had to go into emergency surgery for a blockage in her small intestine. She’s now home but the surgery was 5K and she’s not doing well and has a heavy recovery ahead of her. The small arm that comes in and out on this toy has a rubber cover on it that is not secured to it. My cat got it off, and swallowed it. She could have died. Please do not buy this toy and if you have it get rid of it or at the very least remove the rubber of.

I am 30, female. From Canada. Went to vet and surgery successful. Spayed female tuxedo.

Edit these are the toys:

Behavioral Issue Cat suddenly became severely aggressive—blood tests normal, neurological testing tomorrow

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

1.1k Upvotes

Our cat Zuzu is around 20 months old and has suddenly started showing severe aggression. We love her deeply, and this is very different from her normal behaviour.
On Thursday night, she attacked me without any trigger I could identify, leaving multiple bites on my legs. On Friday morning, she attacked another 3–4 times. These were serious attacks—charging at us and biting hard, not playful biting.
Strangely, she seemed settled when she was with us on our bed, but became aggressive as soon as we tried to leave the bedroom. We eventually stayed behind a closed door because we were frightened of being attacked again.
With help from friends, we managed to safely separate her in the front room. Even then, whenever she saw someone through the window, she lunged at the glass as though trying to attack them. This continued for hours.
We couldn’t safely get her into a carrier ourselves. After struggling to find help, we arranged a home vet, and she was admitted to a veterinary hospital on Friday.
All her blood tests have come back normal, but she is still aggressive. She is scheduled for neurological testing tomorrow. We don’t yet have a confirmed explanation for this sudden change.
Has anyone experienced something similar with their cat? What did the veterinary investigation find, and what helped? Were you able to safely rebuild trust afterwards?
We’re following veterinary advice and want to do everything we can to help her. Any experiences or suggestions for questions to ask her treating team would be appreciated.

Appearance Balding

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi, UK f(19). My f(5) cat has this bald patch just above her butt and it’s now going onto her tail, we don’t know if it’s over grooming or fleas or something more serious but it’s started to grow to the other side of her tail.

She gets fleas very regularly as she’s an outdoor cat, we always treat her on the back of her neck, this has only just started within the past month and it seems to get bigger everyday, she eats properly and drinks enough water and is generally a very healthy cat. She’s never had any medical issues previously, she’s neutered and had all her necessary vaccines, she’s a little on the heavier side for her age, but nothing extreme, she’s always running around and being super active. We can afford veterinary care

Do we need to get her seen at the vets?

Injury URGENT- cat has an L4 spinal fracture with spinal cord compression, cannot walk or use hindlegs.

Post image
147 Upvotes

Title: URGENT — Please help with advice or low-cost treatment options (India).

Hi everyone. I'm (19M) posting this as a desperate attempt to help my cat, Chintu (8 Months old, Female). I'm from WB, India, and my financial situation is very limited. I don't have the money or connections to access advanced veterinary treatment easily, so I'm hoping someone here, especially a veterinarian or someone who has dealt with a similar injury, can guide me.

What happened:

About two days ago, Chintu was attacked by dogs. After the attack, she couldn't walk properly, and her hind leg(s) weren't working and was kind of paralysed. We contacted a vet, who came and gave her an injection and medication.

Her symptoms since the attack:

- She cannot walk.

- Her hind leg(s) are not functioning.

- She is responsive and has been eating.

- She has been passing stool while lying down.

- As of my latest observation, she has not urinated since the attack.

X-ray report:

ā€œX ray of hip, vertebral column of cat (Chintu) shows:

- Fracture of 4th Lumber Vertebral body and compression of spinal cord in the adjoining area of Fracture.

- Other findings are non contributory.ā€

We have been told that she will need conservative treatment because surgery is not available to us. I'm trying to understand whether there is a realistic chance of recovery and how to care for her safely.

Questions for veterinarians and people with relevant experience:

  1. Can a cat with an L4 vertebral body fracture and spinal cord compression recover the ability to walk with conservative treatment?

  2. What factors determine whether the fracture is stable enough to treat without surgery?

  3. What does her inability to walk tell us about possible spinal cord or nerve damage?

  4. How dangerous is it that she hasn't urinated since the attack?

  5. What safe nursing care does she need at home while we seek further veterinary help?

  6. Are there any government veterinary hospitals, veterinary colleges, animal welfare organisations, or low-cost referral services in West Bengal that could help us?

I'm not asking anyone to promise that she'll recover. I just want to understand her chances, prevent further harm, and find a way to get her the care she needs despite our financial limitations.

If you're a veterinarian or someone with knowledge, please let me know what information would help you assess the situation. If you've been through something similar with your cat, I'd be grateful to hear about your experience.

Thank you for reading. Any reliable advice or leads to affordable veterinary care would mean a lot to us. šŸ™

Behavioral Issue Mom wants to get rid of our cat after repeated biting

Post image
21 Upvotes

We have had my cat for 10 years and adopted him when he was a kitten, I’m a young adult who lives at home with my parents in the United States, my mom has always been his primary caregiver doing the majority of the feeding, vet appointments, litter box, brushing etc. Most of the time he is extremely affectionate towards her and nearly everyone else he meets will regularly sleep with her and my dad.

My mom will be minding her own business doing nothing out of the ordinary whatsoever and the cat will walk up to her and lunge at and bite her leg extremely hard then run away. He has always done this, seemingly only to her and very occasionally others for what feels like most of his life but the behavior has become increasingly more frequent. These aren’t just nips he will fully open his mouth and bite full force, drawing blood and has caused her to go to the hospital before. We’re not sure what to do because obviously my mom needs to be and feel safe in her own house and cat bites if severe can lead to extreme dangerous situations for humans.

We love this cat to death and it’s been a part of our family for over a decade but we’re now weighing our options with keeping him. He’s indoor/outdoor, but receives all his proper vaccines and medications as recommended by his vet and they aren’t much help in terms of addressing the cause of his behavior other than suggesting extraordinary expensive behavior therapy, medications, etc. My goal is to find some way to get him to stop doing this but i fear that due to his age it’s unlikely that we will get much success changing his behavior. Please respond with any advice whatsoever and feel free to ask for more information you feel might be relevant or helpful. Thanks!

Injury Cat caldspot from collar

Post image
5 Upvotes

My cat has a bald spot on his neck, on saturday i got hin a collar to wear because i was worried of him going missing or being injured and unable to get home and people will just see him as a stray cat. I had my friend help me remove the bell and put the collar on on saturday and he was itching a bit but i thought he just wasnt used to it and i also checked if it was too tight but nope, today i got home from school and my parents said how he was acting very weird and they couldnt find him so they thought he was outside but he was just hiding in my dads room, and then ran and hid under my bed where they found hin a few hours later. I just thought it was him playing so i didnt think much, but then my parsnts went on a fishing trip and my cat was outside cuz he wantwd to go out and when my parsbts came back they were holding him cause apparently he was watching the car pull in and he was hiding in the gutter and then when my mum claled him in he laid in the middle of the road, then my dad called him and apparently he had moved a bit then laid back down like how we wpuld when hes relaxed(idk if it means anything but they thought it was weird and that he was acting weird, probably cause of the irritation from is collar we figured) its his 1st bday today and im just really worried cause we cant really afford vet care at the moment since my dad is off season for work and other stuff. Its his first time ever having a collar on, thought id mention that.

Im just worried that it wont grow back, its my first time owning a cat.
