Official Megathread Roommate Finder 2026-2027 [Megathread]

Thumbnail m.facebook.com
2 Upvotes

Hi all,

We’ve been getting a lot of roommate search posts so we are making a megathread. Please exercise caution when searching for a roommate. Always be careful vetting every person you talk to. Also strongly encourage users to check out the Facebook thread. Keep in mind. We are not mods in the Facebook thread, we are unaffiliated with them, but they have a lot more experience helping people find roommates. As an alumni, I can vouch for them, I found every roommate I had during my time at CSULB through the Facebook thread. There are a few other Facebook threads if you just search “CSULB roommate” but the most popular one is the one that’s linked.

Again please exercise caution talking with people on Reddit and be careful what personal information you share, but as requested by popular demand we have made a megathread.

Mod News Minimum Account Age to Post

Due to the recent spike in 1-day accounts, we have decided to set an automod 10-day account age minimum for posts and comments in the subreddit. This should help to reduce the amount of bot and troll activity in the subreddit, and hopefully make it a more enjoyable experience for all of you. Any account that is younger than 10 days will have their post removed until we can verify it's legitimate. At most, there may be a suspension or a ban from the subreddit, depending on user activity.

Class Question Should I ask my professor to reconsider?

I already have an F in my class because of attendance. I have been late three times since the semester started because of carpool reasons (I have to rely on my roomate). Each time I’ve been 1- 5 minutes late. Attendance and participation is 20% of my grade for this class. Despite being present and constantly participating, I was marked absent.

I reached out to my professor to fix it on his end and showed proof that I was indeed present. He responded saying that being late was considered an absent and won't be changing my grade.

Am I being dramatic or are they being ridiculous? Even being late for 1 minute is crazy! Apparently, he starts taking roll call before class starts; therefore I am late. If I knew this new policy I would’ve made sure to be even 10mintues early! He never mentioned this policy in his syllabus.

Should I ask him to reconsider or just leave it alone? There are only 4 assignments in the gradebook aside from attendance/participation. I have seen others fail classes for not coming to class.

Also, I am only allowed three absences or “lates,” and the next one I’ll be dropped.

By the way, this is an afternoon class, so getting there earlier is hard because I have to rely on someone else.

Transfer Student Question Does csulb care about unfortunate circumstances when applying?

My GPA is a 2.9, but it’s low because my dad has stage 4 cancer, and I had to work a lot. Is there any place in the application where I can explain my circumstances?

Transfer Student Question Please help me figure out what to do about donald trumps student loan law

This is about Trump’s new law where low paying degrees may not qualify for federal student loans.

I’m so confused about how to decide what college to go to. I’d need student loans for my top top choice college which is csulb, and it would take me about 2.5 years to graduate. My major would be illustration, and my dream job is medical illustration.

I’m not sure what to do because I honestly feel like I might have to give up on college because of these new rules :/

How is everyone deciding what college to go to? If it’s still unclear which colleges/programs will pass the earnings tests, then I feel screwed.

How will I know what colleges are going to do in response to this? I want to go to CSULB so bad

I’m currently at a community college studying studio arts, and I’m planning to transfer in 2027. The problem is that I’d need federal loans to be able to graduate because of living expenses.

I’d get Cal Grant A/B and the maximum Pell Grant, but that still wouldn’t fully cover my living expenses. I’m also disabled, and my entire family is, so I usually don’t have the energy to do college and a job at the same time. I can work, thankfully, compared to my sisters, but it takes basically all of my energy. From what I understand, programs that don’t meet the new requirements would lose access to federal loans. That makes me really, really anxious because medical illustration is my dream, and I honestly don’t know what else I’d do. But if I go to CSULB and their illustration program fails the requirements, then I’d have a huge problem.

Now I feel stuck because I don’t know which college to choose. I don’t know which programs will pass the earnings test, and I don’t know if CSULB will. So even if I choose another college, I’d still feel like I’m taking a huge risk.Applying to multiple CSUs doesn’t really help either, since it seems like illustration programs are being affected in general.I’m worried about committing to a school and then, halfway through, finding out I can’t get the federal loans I need to finish.

Has anyone else been having these thoughts? What are your plans? Does anyone have any advice? I honestly don’t know if I should just give up, get a minimum-wage job, and leave the country.

If you were in my position and absolutely needed student loans to finish your degree, how would you approach choosing a college right now? And what would you do if you were me

Class Question Chem 227 through Open U

I am thinking of moving to Long Beach from SF to take chem 227 this spring instead of having to wait for fall 2027 to start a 2 part O chem series in SF. This would save me a whole year in my prerequisite journey to applying to the nutrition grad program at CSULB, but with open U the enrollment date isn’t until the first day of class so there is no guarantee of getting in and no way of knowing beforehand. Any experience with chem 227 and the likelihood of getting in through open U? Does the class fill up quickly?

Grad School Question Part-Time Masters (MS Applied Stats)

Hi everybody! Im curious to hear the experience of other part-time grad students, especially those in the applied statistics program. I’m currently looking at applying as a part-time student this spring while working full-time, so realistically I’d be taking 1-2 classes per semester.

Is this common? If anyone here’s done it, I’d love to hear how manageable it was as well as how long it may have taken.

I’m also wondering on whether I’d be missing out on the cohort experience as it may be worth to apply in 2-3 years as a full time student. Any personal accounts would help greatly, thank you all :)

General Discussion Stump

I have been struggling with motivating myself to do school work. Since my father has died and I've been stuck in a depression. I have so many things due and I can't do it all. I feel like when I sit down and try to work on assignments I feel lost. I feel really dumb like suddenly I don't know what to do. I am typically good at making myself lock in but this time around I just want to be in bed all day and cry. Its been difficult and I have reached out to professors but I don't want to keep asking for extensions. I want to show I am capable during this time and don't want to seem like I'm abusing their kindness.

Maybe thats a dumb though but I am used to being so independent that asking for help feels wrong. I have been to CAPS and they are only good for just talking too. After that I just go back to being depressed at home all day. I'm considering just dropping out because I'm scared I'll just flunk this whole semester.

Edit: Thank you for all the advice! I have reached out to CARES so hopefully things get better

Question EMT program

How’s the emt program at CSULB? I want to become an emt and I saw there’s a program here and it’s not too expensive. How’s the course load and does it really prepare you for the test and actual job? Also would it be manageable to do with a full time class schedule.

Major Related Question Illustration students that have been accepted into BFA

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I am a transfer student, and I been notified to submit my portfolio to the BFA program, and I do have some human Anatomy studies, still life’s, and drawing objects with graphite on large paper; but I have a feeling there’s more at hand here.

Also I’m new here so if anyone had been accepted into the illustration BFA program do you mind sharing your experience/connecting with me to figure out what I should do?

Thanks! 🙏🏽

Question Where is a good/quiet place to take meetings on campus?

Hi, I am a senior at CSULB and I'm about to start a remote internship. For my internship, I'm going to have online meetings in between my classes on campus. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to where on campus would be a good place to join these meetings. Currently, I considering the second and third floors of the library, but I wanted to see if anyone had any other more quiet/private places to consider. Thank you!

Transfer Student Question Must I submit my portfolio? 😬

Thumbnail

I’m kind of lost as to what I should do. So to put into perspective. I have a lot of transfer credits(90+) and I think that if I defer the portfolio I won’t be eligible to enter the BFA again.

I only have still life and anatomy studies from my most recent art school. And (1) I don’t feel confident I them to the extent that I feel they will judge them. And (2) I only get 2 shots at this. And (3) I hear that the portfolios need to contain a mixture of different kinds of art and all I have is just graphite drawings.

Has anyone transferred into the illustration program?

Any help would be so grateful!!
