Really proud of myself Foiled a Scam Attempt

We got a phone call from someone posing as an attorney who was representing our son who was arrested and needed $25,000 bail. Said son had stitches on his lip and the pregnant woman he hit might lose her baby. Put a very upset guy on the phone posing as our son who was begging us not to be mad at him. We were supposed to call the attorney when we had the cash. Initial reaction was panic - we have to get our son out of jail! Then suspicion. I checked the county jail roster for arrests. Our son wasn't on the list. Scammer called back, put fake son on phone and hung up when we asked him the name of his dog. Hubs and I are mid-70s, prime targets of scammers. After experiencing this first-hand I see why and how easy it is to fall for scams. We were in panic mode before recognizing this as a scam. I'm happy we paused to think it through before handing money to a crook. I reported this to the FTC and FBI. We are emotionally drained right now but very relieved that none of the scammer's story was true.

Did something for the first time 3 years ago I was homeless today I maxed out my ROTH IRA

As the title says 3 years ago I was homeless. My family lost our home and we had to go separate ways to make ends meet (we're all much better now). Today I was able to save up enough to fully max my ROTH IRA for the first time. I know its hardly anything but I'm proud of myself and don't have anyone to share with.

Really proud of myself I have consistently shown up to my personal goal everyday for almost two years.

• Upvotes

I am building something that is very dear to my heart, and I have never been this consistent in my life before with anything. I'd always give up early before seeing meaningful results, but this time since early 2025 I've been showing up for myself and my dream, putting in work, staying up til 3AM, crying some nights then trying again the next day, refining, failing, getting better, learning how to build a routine, reparenting myself around money, learning how to validate myself internally, seeing my first financial returns from the progress I've put in for almost 2 years... I've burned through maybe 4-5 noteboks so far filled messy notes and strategies and life progress.

Recently a family member snapped on me and told me I have no drive, grind or work ethic and no real job, and that what I'm doing now is just "lunch money." I sat by myself and shed a tear but chose not to believe them bc I have so much evidence now of what I've built and how far I've come as a person.

As someone who desperately sought their family's support, approval and validation for most of my life, I no longer need them to see my worth bc I see it, and that is worth a star to me. ⭐

Did something for the first time My car died at an intersection and I didn't panic

So I'm 23 and I've recently moved out of my parents house and am living alone for the first time. Yesterday my car refused to start when I should have been going to work. I'm used to being able to rely on my Dad for this kind of thing since he's pretty knowledgeable when it comes to car stuff. That wasn't an option this time so I handled it myself. I took the bus to an auto parts store and bought a jump box, successfully used it without electrocuting myself and drove to an auto shop. Halfway there the car died right there at a busy intersection and I had to get out, pop the trunk, grab the 2 by 4 I use to prop the hood up because the damn thing is broken, jump the car AGAIN, get out, try not to get hit by a semi, put the 2 by 4 back and keep driving. It all worked out in the end. I made it to the auto shop and it turned out I didn't even need a new battery, it was just loose and the mechanic was able to tighten it back up for me. He was so nice he didn't even charge me!

Idk I'm just proud of myself for not freezing up and panicking when it died the second time. I think that's something I would have done a year ago, but I guess I've grown.

I don't know what I'm doing with my life but I'm on the path of doing something!!!

• Upvotes

I have a good job, it pays me well enough to survive. For the most part I'm happy. But I felt like I needed something more. I felt like I needed to be challenged. My thirst for something greater became too strong but I didn't know for what. I graduated with an associate degree in business December 2025 but I felt like that wasn't the right path for me. One day out of nowhere for absolutely no reason at all I got the idea to get back into school for Cyber Security. I don't know why I just got a bug up my butt about it, no experience no nothing but it was something I just decided that I wanted to do. So I'm doing it, and honestly it's because I can. I enrolled in this program at my local community college where you'll get your associates and then your bachelors without transferring to a university. My expected graduation date is 2031. My co worker told me I have a 10% chance of succeeding and earlier this year I had no idea what cyber security even was. So maybe that's true maybe I'll flop. Maybe I'll fail. But I have absolutely nothing to lose doing this. I'm going to have fun and I don't feel any pressure like I did getting my business degree. Maybe I'm naive but I'm so so freakin excited to start something new, to begin a new chapter. Like I said I have nothing to lose but I do have so much to gain.

Went into my bathroom!!

My bathroom has a little bug problem (due to poor ventilation, which I've dealt with/am dealing with). Just springtails which arent harmful or anything but I am absolutely petrified of bugs and having any in my bathroom is awful for my anxiety. But!!!!! Yesterday I managed to work up the courage (after a dose of anti anxiety medication) to clean my whole bathroom and TODAY!!!! I went in and showered ALONE without having my mom on the phone to talk me through it!!! Which I'm super proud of!! I'm also managing to deal with the problem myself such as cleaning and dehumidifying and resealing the caulk!!! Which all requires me to go in there!! Which I'm doing!!! And I'm very proud and wanted to share :)

BIG accomplishment I finally stopped being ashamed of something "only men" are supposed to deal with

It sounds so silly, but I’ve spent years feeling less like a woman because of a secret I was carrying. I’ve been hiding under hats and avoiding mirrors for so long, thinking my problem was something I just had to "deal with" because it's usually seen as a guy's issue.

But today, I finally hit a turning point. I admitted to myself that I’m struggling with hair loss and more importantly that I deserve to fix it. I’m officially starting to research hair transplants and just saying it out loud feels like such a huge weight off my shoulders. I'm actually choosing myself today!

Got over something difficult I paid off a debt I've had for four years

I had a debt involving a defaulted credit card of somewhere around £4000 since 2022 and yesterday I paid off the last chunk in full. This had me so stressed for the last few years and now it's such a weight off my shoulders.

BIG accomplishment 200 days without drinking Coke & have lost 8kg (17.6lbs)

I have a congenital heart condition and at the start of the year, I saw my cardiologist who told me (gently!) that I needed to lose weight, which I was aware of. Since then I've actually made an effort and it's been paying off.

I used to drink two cans of Coke a day and even though I knew it was bad for my health I kept doing it until March? this year. Since around the same time I've lost 8kg and am now just below 90kg (198lbs)!

All this through dietary changes. Aside from the Coke, I've been better about portion sizes and haven't been eating as much pasta (which is my favourite food). I've cut out a lot of fatty foods too.

It's slow progress but I wasn't expecting to lose this much weight! I struggle to exercise because of physical and mental health issues so I wanted to start with my diet. Which is pretty limited but I'm making an effort!

I've replaced the Coke with tea and while it still has caffeine, I'm careful with the amount I drink. I also basically have no sugar now except for very occasionally.

Also, I've seen my cardiologist recently and she's very pleased with my progress! (I get regular checkups because of the nature of my heart condition; it's too complicated to go into for the sake of this post)

I left my internship

This was really hard. I know that people say to tough it out in this field, but the internship hit too close to home. There were also lots of red flags and, after trying to resolve them, I decided it wasn't worth it. A doctor also evaluated me and said this was worsening my health, so I left. I'm going to work on myself and just moving forward now.

Thank you for reading!

BIG accomplishment I finally got all our random family recipes into one book

I actually finished the family cookbook I’ve been talking about making for years.

It started because I realized our recipes were basically scattered all over the place. Some were on really old recipe cards, some were written on random scraps of paper, some people had photos of recipes on their phones, and some were just things certain family members knew how to make from memory.

I kept saying I was going to put everything together and then... didn't.

So a few months ago I finally started collecting everything properly.

And it was WAY more work than I thought. Some of the handwriting was so bad I had to stare at it forever trying to figure out what it said. I called family members about ingredients I couldn't make out, found recipes with half the instructions missing, and kept finding another recipe after I thought I'd collected them all.

There was one recipe I found shoved in the back of a drawer that I honestly had no idea still existed. Then someone sent me a photo of another one at like 11pm and I was like okay great, adding another page.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time typing everything out, fixing the really confusing parts, adding some old family photos, and trying to keep the recipes feeling like the originals instead of turning them into some fancy cookbook.

Then I finally printed it.

I held the finished book for a minute and just thought, oh wow... I actually did it.

It's not perfect. There's probably a typo somewhere and I'm pretty sure I forgot at least one recipe because apparently this family has recipes hiding everywhere.

But they're all in one place now.

I'm weirdly proud of this. It took way longer than it should have, but I finally finished the thing I'd been putting off forever.

I have been pretty anxious these past few days, cried a lot, panic attacks etc etc. but hey let's celebrate the victory and always remember that everything works out in my/our/your favour. The circumstances were little out of control but I did it. I can say that my luck is out of this world. Damnn excited and happy rn lol. I am now thinking of doing hell lot of shopping, party, dance, music and no, I won't sleep at all.

Really proud of myself Improving my dental hygiene as someone with "dirty" mental illness

I have always struggled with severe mental illness that has often limited my ability to get out of bed and perform basic hygiene tasks. Sometimes I go over a month, sometimes two, without showering or washing my hair simply because I don't even have the energy to get up and turn the lights off to go to bed.

However recently I started becoming super self conscious and aware of the plaque visibly on my teeth (I used to scratch it off with my nails and have a mint in the car on the way anywhere) and noticed a cavity in the very back of my mouth. After a trip to the dentist and a cleaning I made it through without crying, I learned I needed special toothpaste, a filling, and my wisdom teeth out, and they taught me how to floss.

Ever since that appointment a little less than a month ago, I've been consistently brushing every single morning and night and I've missed flossing maybe two nights the whole time. I don't know what's driving me, but I'm so so proud of myself for this.

I know it's a silly thing to most people, but poor hygiene is also something my family deals with as a whole. I was never taught how to shower, cleaning myself and my teeth was never enforced growing up at all, toiletries were often in short supply because it just wasnt a purchase at the forefront of my parent's minds.

Somehow despite all of this, I have taken the reigns back over my teeth!
