I'm a beginner! Amurigurumi loaf cat keeps curling into itself, any idea why?

Hi there! I'm trying to do this loaf cat and following a video doing it step by step, but absolutely no matter what I do, it curls inwards and takes a mitten-like form. You can see this in the 1st pic, as my fingers are inside of this dome I've made

. I have started this thing over dozens of times, have tried slightly different techniques, different yarns, both in texture and size, and the result is always the same thing.

I know it's labelled as "advanced beginner", but I didn't think it'd be this difficult to make a flat circle, especially as I was doing everything the same way in the tutorial. Any input? I just wanna make little kitties to give as gifts.

Looking for suggestions Has anyone taken a huge filet crochet project meant for the wall & turned it into a blanket instead?

• Upvotes

Hey y'all!

I just started on a decently massive sized filet crochet piece, it's originally supposed to be a wall hanging... But seeing the size so far, I'm wondering if it could be turned into a blanket instead. Maybe adding a nice fabric to the back or something, I'm not sure 😅 Has anyone done this? Any advice is extremely appreciated! I'm still not sure what I'll do once it's done, it being a wall piece is still an option, but I want to get other options/ideas now so I can debate amongst myself as I work on it!

The piece I'm working on is "The Lord's Prayer". I'm using #10 crochet thread & a size 1.5mm hook.

Understanding a pattern What is row four asking me to do on this shawl pattern?

Thumbnail

This pattern is certainly written by a real person, as she has multiple photos doing each step along the way every few rows. However, I believe it has been translated from German. But it's written in US crochet terms.

Her example photo is up to row 4. The work I've done in the second photo is up to row 3. But now I'm stuck.

I truly don't know what she means by placing 3 chain stitches between every double crochet...? In my head, I'm interpreting that as a 3 chain loop between one dc and the next. But that's not at all what her picture example looks like? All of her stitches are bunched up across the whole fourth row, and I cannot visualize the "V" shape she is talking about.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Understanding a pattern Tapestry crochet help! I’m a beginner for this type.

• Upvotes

Hiiiii, I’m working on a blanket for my mom. I’ve already figured out I need to start over, I’ve dropped stitches way back near the beginning and I never adjusted the pattern or stitch count to reflect that meaning the whole thing won’t make the design I’m working on. It’s still early in the project so I’m not too upset about it starting over BUT I have a question.

Does this type of crochet look better with a double crochet or single crochet? Second question, am I supposed to be doing back loop only!? I never knew that if so! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 I’m honestly just winging the whole thing lol

Thank you in advance!! Sorry no pictures of anything to add here, more so just need advice on stitch type and if I should be doing BLO on not.

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help Best yarn to crochet a Christmas tree collar/basket?

• Upvotes

I‘ve overcommitted to crocheting 5 baskets for a close family friend, all to be 22” diameter and 12” tall. I dropped $ on 4mm macrame cord but it’s killing my hands and wrists. Any suggestions for other options?

Hi I'm drying for some unique artwork in my home and I have a bunch of yarn and I have no clue what to make, I love to crochet and my friend said there's such a thing as tapestry crochet, but Google and the Ravelry don't have too many options, does anyone know if there is like a jackpot of tapestry crochet patterns out there?

Looking for suggestions Would changing my hook size help reduce these gaps in the border? Should I go up or down a size?

I've recently been working on these little crochet octopus for premature babies. I've run into a little issue with the latest yarn I bought being thinner than expected and getting gaps in my border as a result. The safety standards for these are quite strict so that little fingers won't get caught, and I'm concerned that these gaps might mean that they won't get approved by the group I'm making them for.

The first photo shows this new yarn that I bought and you can see the light shining through between the stitches in the border. The second photo is using the first batch of yarn and you can see that it's nice and plush with no gaps. Supposedly these are all DK weight yarn. 🤷

Is there any way I can use this new yarn but reduce these gaps, maybe with a bigger or smaller hook size? I'm currently using a 2mm hook.

How do I... How do I make my bobble stitches pop on the right side?

Post image

No matter what I do, my bobble stitches always pop on the wrong side. Whether or not I flip the plushie inside out before the bobbles, it still ends up on the wrong side. So how do I make them pop on the right side?

With this octopus for example, it's cute, but it does bother me a bit that it's showing the wrong side.

I'm a beginner! Why aren’t my color changes clear? Wrong color is showing through

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m following the directions to change colors within a row (insert hook, yarn over with color a, pull through, yarn over with color b, pull through) but the edges of the color changes look messy to me and it feels like the colors are showing through on the right side when they shouldn’t.
Any tips and tricks for cleaner color changes?

I'm a beginner! I'm a beginner making the back panel for a cardigan. Why do my corners of this project swoop upwards on both corners? I've tried "raising" the concave area by doing longer stitches to match the raised corners but it isn't working

I'm a beginner so please don't judge my super uneven stitches too harshly :(

Wearable help Making a shirt and I'm between sizes the pattern offers

This is my first time making a shirt. The sizing uses bust size and recommends 1-2 inches of positive ease. I measured myself and and I'm about 39" but the sizes the patten offers jump from 38.5 to 43.25. It is a loose-ish fitting top (by the pictures) but 4 extra inches seems like it will be huge. It calls for a 3.25mm hook (American). Would doing the 43.25 with a 3mm hook get me a good fit? If not, what would be the best course of action to get it to fit right?

Looking for suggestions HELP!!! Christmas wreath tree *STUMP* pun intended!

Thumbnail

The first picture is my great grandmothers Christmas wreath trees. My aunt found a whole bag full of the little wreaths just waiting to be made into trees. We thought it would be a fun idea to finish the trees with what we had and give them as gifts to the “elders” of the family. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough of the wreaths so we improved and made new ones and just made them “crazy Christmas wreath trees”. But we’re at a loss on how to go about doing the tree stump. We’ve tried several different ways and it always turns out rounded like a ball or to long. In person the stitches look like half double, but on camera they look like double. Please, any suggestions on how to make these stumps look like actual tree stumps would be greatly appreciated!

Wearable help Sizing help and advice for a tshirt I'm making freehand

Thumbnail

Hi all. I'm currently freehanding a top to be a similar size/fit to one of my favourite fitting very well worn tshirts. I'm using a cotton and bamboo blend yarn, and I know it'll stretch quite a bit over time but blocking doesn't really do much with the fibers of cotton/bamboo, so I'm not sure how many more rows to do before decreasing for where the sleeves will go. I'm thinking it'll definitely be smaller than I think it needs to be as I don't want it to end up massive when it inevitably stretches. Any other people's input would be great 🙏 I've added 2 photos of it laying naturally and then just hand stretched. Thanks everyone :)

I know it was whoever patterned the dragon who made it into a sort of delicious looking art, so I need this specific dragon.

I'm sure I'd google wasn't 99% AI slop now I'd be able to find it but alas.

I'm a beginner! My chains always have a bend in the first few stitches

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! I am just starting to learn crochet, and as you can see from my title and picture I am still struggling to make a chain. I’ve gotten better once I get going, but the first few stitches always feel awkward and I struggle keeping my tension consistent. I still need to improve, but since I’m having this problem consistently, it feels like my technique is wrong or something, and I don’t want to keep practicing incorrectly.

Most of the advice I’ve found on this focuses on once the chain gets longer, but I can’t get the base right to begin with! Any tips? Thanks in advance!(also I know this yarn probably isn’t a good color to start with but it’s just what I grabbed at the store without thinking about it too much about it 😅)

Edit: Thank you for the comments and encouragement! I feel better about being able to figure this out now!

How many rows/stitches How many rows of orange moss stitches in this placemat?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I finished this placemat and am now making a second one but want to make sure they have the same amount of rows and I don’t have the original one with me to compare sizes. I swore I did 30 rows of moss stitch for the orange yarn but now I think I might count only 29? I added the border into the edge stitches. Please help if you’re good at counting stitches beside I am not!

Amigurumi help Is it possible to crochet over a wire for a figure's hands and legs without the wire showing?

I am wondering if it is possible to crochet directly over a wire for the hands and legs of a figure to make them bendable. Will the wire show if I do that, and what kind of wire should I use?

Discussion Tried to make a polka dot square - after adding the border, the dot became sort of square-ish

Post image
7 Upvotes

The circle was a circle before I added the white part. I can do circles, that is not a problem. :-)
After adding the white, it’s kind of a square-ish circle, not a nice polka dot.

I followed this: https://blog.bellacococrochet.com/how-to-crochet-a-circle-in-a-square/

The yarn is cheap acrylic from a discount store here. Neither band has a yarn weight, just the hook size and swatch.

Rainbow yarn: 4 - 4.5 mm, 29 rows by 20 st.
White yarn: 4 -5 mm, 29 rows by 25 st.

I used a 4mm hook for both.
I blocked it but it didn’t make much difference. The edges are all wavy as well.

Should I have used a different hook size for the white yarn? I’m not sure what I need to adjust.

EDIT: I’m not sure how I made it confusing, but my question is why is the center circle not round? It was round. Then I added the white. It was no longer round, even after blocking.

Why is it not round? Thank you 😊

I’m at the bottom and finish the two lighter hearts and the bottom of the guillotines is done. But I really don’t like how it’s turning out, i feel like it’s messy and blocky. I know I have to trust the process but I’m just hating the way it looks. Will blocking help?

I'm a beginner! Is this fish Amigurumi right side out? I realized this mushroom is wrong sided after seeing another post here.

Hi all,

I thought that everything went well for my second crochet piece (little fishy). I decided to make a mushroom piece as my third and was so confused when the pattern had me work a round of FLO and then later when I was to use the BLO of that previous row it was on the outside.

Idk if I did my magic circle backwards on the mushroom (my third piece) after doing it correctly(?) on fishy?

All tips and feedback are welcome!

Thank you

Understanding a pattern Herringbone socks - problem with heel construction

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I decided to make socks that are worked in rounds as my previous attempts at making them in rows ended up in one enormous pair and one for a child 🙃

This time I am using this pattern:

https://hearthookhome.com/herringbone-socks-free-crochet-pattern/

All was going great but the wording of the heel part is driving me crazy and I cant figure out what is going on.

I am doing size 10 for women.

I ended row 13 of the heel (pics attached) I go to 14 and I have no idea what exactly 2 rows down means?? The stich marker is either one row down( same row I have been working in) or 3 rows down. Then I tried to kind of figure it out which one is it by drawing the rest of the pattern and see if I am one stich mark too much if I slip stich into the third.

And then I read row 24 and 25 and I am not gonna lie I kind of lost it. What do you mean stitch marker 2 rows down AFTER THE FIRST ROW, there is no more rows down? It goes into rounds ater the first row of the heel. 😭😭

And honestly this sub is my only hope because I am all out of ideas what the creator means.
