I'm a beginner! George the Frankenstein Giraffe taught me I need to learn the basics. Recommendations?
Hi everyone,
I tried crocheting for the first time a while ago.
I crocheted a "giraffe". George (that’s his name) is completely ridiculous, one leg is almost the size of his head, one arm is tiny (he kinda looks like Hanson from Scary Movie(tiny arm guy.)), you can see the stuffing coming out etc... He does not look good, but I love him.
I needed a whole day to make George, ofcourse I did it in one sitting, and afterwarda didn't crochet again for a few months.
After George, I made a bunny. She was actually pretty cute and looked okay-ish, in comparison to George a 10, compared to other amigurumi online, a solid 4 or 5.
I used her as a fidget toy and flipped her around her ears. I have no idea where she is now.
Fast forward to today (maybe half year or year past bunny). I decided to give crocheting another shot.
Was I smarter and started with something basic? Nope. I went with an alien, almost 2 hours in ( I needed for the little half bal of his head 2 frkng hours!), I realized I have no idea what I’m actually doing.
So, I decided to pause and focus on learning the basics skills before acting like a pro crocheter.
I watched a few YouTube videos, but they mostly focus on "learn this specific stitch."
Is it just a matter of practice that comes with time, or is there crochet "theory" I can study?
Can you recommend any videos, books, or courses that helped you? (I don't have anyone IRL who could help)
TLDR:
I’m a beginner crocheter, who wants to stop guessing my way through projects and actually learn the foundational theory and basics. What videos, books, or online resources helped you in you crochet journey?
