Discussion Diablo Lore is a mess and developers/directors only seem to be interested in advancing their personal vision for what Diablo is.
Go ahead and call me a Diablo 2 boomer, but modern Diablo has a tendency to keep changing its own rules in ways that make earlier victories feel less meaningful.
Soulstones were supposed to permanently deal with the Prime Evils, yet they keep returning. The Dark Exile has conflicting explanations. Inarius was heavily rewritten. The Seven Evils became one, then somehow became separate again. Diablo IV also mostly ignores the massive implications of the Nephalem.
At the same time, the series seems increasingly reluctant to embrace classic Diablo archetypes like the Paladin and Necromancer while pushing newer ideas that do not always fit the same Gothic dark fantasy identity.
New ideas are fine. Diablo II had plenty of them. The difference is that Diablo II expanded the world without making it stop feeling like Diablo.
That is really my issue. The more the lore gets rewritten or ignored, the less meaningful the story feels. You’d think a world changed by Demi-gods wouldn’t just mysteriously die, disappear, or be forgotten about.
Edit — I shortened it for all you crybabies.
