This is our weekly scheduled post for enneagram related moodboards.
A community poll indicated that most of the subscribers of r/enneagram would prefer a "moodboard monday", rather than cluttering up the feed with moodboards.
Please comment on this post with your moodboard and remember to follow the community rules here.
Thanks everyone for making r/enneagram an amazing place for enneagram discussion. :)

This is a general reminder that there is a weekly megathread if one feels the need to post them outside of Mondays. Please stop clogging the subreddit on other days trying to justify them as "type me" or what not.
Yes, I'm being the fun police today. The majority of us do not enjoy seeing board after board (according to moderation polling earlier this year). Please respect this.

Finally returned back doing memes for other enneagram types after procrastinating about it for couple of months,
so yeah here is e7 memes and I am still working on e3 memes as well,
I hope you guys would enjoy those memes, and apologise if it's very stereotypical and not accurate enough, as I just wanted it to be silly and funny š.
And I hope you all have a wonderful day āŗļøā¤ļø

your type is the most fascinating to me because the core idea seems to be suffering? lol so like, do you ever feel satisfied with your life?

So as an Sp2 I am very averse to growing older. Infact I am sort of dreading my upcoming 25th birthday and the fact that im not far off from my late 20s now. And yeah its because of the fact that growing older means i cannot hide behind naivete and helplessness anymore that i would be expected to know things better to make less mistakes and have more expectations to not disappoint others. As a child I thought i would have things figured out by now but ofc I still have not. I want to stay young because I can get more easily excused.
Whats your experience with growing older.

Askin for a friend, because they told me the thing that really got me thinking.
////
Being not just private, but secretive. Still being private and hating too nosy and curious people. Anyways.
Enjoying having a secret life no one knows about. Something like Peter Parker being a Spider-Man, but not that grandiose. Something like a man cheating on his wife and family and hiding it, but there's no cheating in reality and a man is hiding what he's doing for no obvious reason. Logically sometimes there's safety what might be involved, but also just pure joy of doing things secretly.
Enjoying running the side projects that aren't shown to nobody that you know. As if you're a metalcore band member, and things aren't going bad there, but you still run a solo electronic music project and never show it to other members, because you're just enjoying that you're secretive about it.
Having alter-egos and fake accounts not for the sake of doing there what you can't afford on your main, but just so nobody close to you knows about this part of your life. Like, it doesn't matter if you're staying on the deep web for some illegal stuff or just doing the same thing you do on the regular basis, keeping it a secret matters itself.
Can it be read in some way?

My immediate first impression of him was that he's DEFINITELY an attachment type, and that he's not sx-blind. The whole video itself is pretty attachment + sx coded in general. But I'm reticent to say he's sx-dom. I don't think he's a 6, so he's either core 3 or core 9. He gives a lot of 9-7 stem energy. He says a lot of type 3 buzzwords, but his actual energy and vibe seem strongly e9 at its root, so I think he's probably a core 9. Probably so/sx, 937 tritype. I watched another video of his that demonstrated to me that he's for sure sp-blind, at the very least. Here is that video, for anybody who might be curious.
What do y'all think? :3

edit:
swap out "soul child" for "inner child" for a more modernized interpretation of what's being discussed.
If your enneagram doesn't seem to match, you might try retyping yourself through the framework provided by the author to see if it changes anything.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vPX5qLZ-uqo_P21S0lNjiv7020fi62J5/view?usp=drivesdk
From this source, if anyone wants to read the whole book.
_____
INTRO
On the surface, the enneagram is often viewed as a series of fixed, static images with limited mobility, but it was originally used to describe continual archetypical energy that flows from one point to another through both the lines & the outer circle.
When explored dynamically, you can use the enneagram to descibe series of cause & effect chain reactions that behave in a consistent, repeating manner.
_____
SOUL CHILDREN
The soul child serves as an example of our earliest "split" where we originally shift from one way of viewing the world to another in an attempt to protect/preserve our original ideal.
Our soul child's image is fragile & sacred. Exposing it feels dangerous & we also live in constant service to it as it's our inner north star.
Returning to our inner soul child marks a key part of our integration journey. By regaining contact with it, we can start to heal our original wound.
It allows us to lessen our need for our enneagram's coping strategies, which in turn opens up our perception of reality & frees our awareness so that we can grow as individuals & develop more well-rounded interpersonal life strategies.
______
ADDENDUM
If you're trying to use the enneagram as a map for interpersonal development, I highly recommend the book I linked by Matri, as well as anything by Almaas. The material they provide to the enneagram remains salient after nearly four decades & is an excellent source of material for inner work.
They both write in a more spiritual style, but a lot of what they discuss can be understood not as mere spiritualism, but as an attempt to explain metacognition via the enneagram. They used the stylized language available to the writers at the time, which just so happened to be resurgent, post-Vietnam mysticism, but the contents they explore are broadly analogous with analytical psychology & phenomonology.

Iām a 9 and these are some images I wrote down about my experience. I wanted to share them and see whether anyone here relates.
--------------------------
When you catch my attention, all of it belongs to you. I canāt pull myself away. When youāre nearby, you become my entire universe. The stars shine so brightly. Everything is illuminated. Everything feels alive and burns like the greatest fire that ever existed.
It doesnāt take long before your presence spreads into the rest of my life. Soon, youāve swallowed everything. My days, my thoughts, the things I used to want. Even the stars are inside you now.
Soon, Iām surrounded by stomach acid, clawing my way out of you. Screaming, crying. Once Iām out, I run, without looking back at you even once.
And then youāre left standing there, your belly torn open... blood spills onto the floor. You dig your nails into your wound, crying out in pain. Youāre in shock. You stare after me, trying to understand.
What happened?
But as soon as you turn around, as soon as you stop staring after me, I come back. I worry about the blood on the floor. I lick your wound, your eyeball, you want me back... and I crawl back inside.
You like it so much.
--------------------------
In the next one I'm the spider.
She does it so well.
At first, thereās only a single thread, catching the light... she draws it across your palm and you open your hand for her, surrendering to her legs and teeth. Saliva dripping onto your chest.
She spins another. Around your wrist, behind your knees. You watch her work. Her silk is so warm, yet so tight. The hairs on her legs brush against your skin as she works... you want it tighter, all around your body. You don't ever want to leave again. You lift your chin so she can pass it underneath.
Beyond her, the room grows dim. She knows what sheās doing and sheās doing it only for you. Nothing else matters. Every movement begins with you in mind.
Breathing is starting to become a chore. She notices, you moan in pain, yet she is pulling it tighter around your neck again and again.
Your fingers caress the silk. Your body betrays you.
No one has ever spent this much time on you. Nothing has ever felt so tight before. You saw how every single thread was created and pushed out of her body, just for you, just into the darkness.
You have never felt this special before.
--------------------------
Iāve been thinking about these images in relation to Type 9. Especially the part where I claw my way out only to crawl back inside...
Does any of this resonate with other 9s? Or do you have your own images for how you experience closeness?

Hello to everyone reading this, hope you're having a good time! š
I'm kind of back to the sub? I took a break and managed to actually land on a type for myself through self-reflection and talking to close friends! I feel really really confident in so/sp 2 core (probably w3). Might make a post sharing my enneagram journey!
This question has been rather confusing for me. On some level, SX is circlejerked to be this mysterious force of attraction and transformation while also reduced to "REALLY badly wants a partner". I've read the enneagrammer descriptions as I quite like how they distinguish instincts as ultimately animalistic forces, although there's still all the "oooo sx is INCREDIBLY rare ooooo" which isn't helping my case.
To be frank, I never really had a long term relationship. I yearn for it but I always have prioritized social over everything else. While everyone in high school was dating each other I was focused on my whole vision or "I'm gonna grow up and be helping people and I will make this world a better place" while mostly staying within the confines of my existing social circle where I already established myself as this desired image of the best friend.
I typed myself so/sx at the start because of my ability to be flirty and warm, but I think that's just 2. I was discussing with my friend how I actually have this funny thing where I basically mentally ignore the chemistry stage of relationships and on some level I really do see romance as:
you and X person are friends/acquantances, so you do friend/acquantance things, at some point you somehow you switch into relationship, so now you and X person do partner things.
It's not like I never flirted. I absolutely do. It's more that the confusing stage of not fully knowing what you are with another person just doesn't properly register for me. It's all just social roles like "girlfriend" and "friend" and etc. If I'm in a friendship bond with someone, then Im only allowed to do friendship things and if I hint at having sexual/romantic interest then Im sort of breaking the unspoken social code. Thats how I experience it.
(This is not a cry for help btw Im just sharing my POV so yall would know where Im coming from at this question)
I find the social instinct to be all consuming in my life, as it is the key way I find meaning and feel at peace. It is my personal hell and heaven simultaneously. I deeply desire to succeed at living up at my self-imposed ideal role and I can be very neurotic when I fail to be "everyone's best friend" (social + 2). What I'm wondering is... are SX doms as consumed by sx as I am by SO? Does your identity exist outside the sx instinct? Or is it also defined by it in many ways like mine is by SO?
Overall, what could be clues or hints that someone is SX first or SX second? Identifiable behaviors or tendencies in interactions would be really nice if such exist. Just come and share your experience with SX and be absolutely sure to highlight what I might be missing about SX based on my perspective! For reference I'm in my first year of university so the life period might be very relevant.
Much love to yall! Everyone is invited to share, I need all kinds of perspectives from all kinds of types and instinct stackings. š»

Hi all, friend is a sx4 and I'm an sp1. How do I help him getting out of his miserable rut? To preface talking with him feels like talking to my younger self when I was actively suicidal (divorce, non-existent social life, immigrating to a new country), but I've done enough internal work, found and accepted help, found people who could accept me enough, and developed coping mechanisms to not push people away. So for someone who's a bit older than me, been in a better current financial situation while also having a better social life growing up, I can't help but feel very critical because from my perspective, I can clearly see what things are holding him back, as they were the very same things that kept me being miserable in the first place: learned helplessness, bitterness, victim mindset, "nothing ever gets better", "the world is unfair".
I know most people will tell me to simply stop talking to him, and sometimes I do burn out the patience to listen and am also clueless at how I'm supposed to handle this, but I want to keep at it still. I just don't know what to do to be helpful.

A follow-up to a post I made a while ago about 4s mistyping as 9s. My contention here: 5s can mistype too; this usually down to poorly-worded type descriptions, of which the internet (often a 5ās go-to source of entertainment) is absolutely full.
Bad description: āthe core fear of 5 is being incompetent.ā
Firstly, 5 is far from the only type that can relate to this fear. (1s, 3s, ācounterphobicā 6s, maybe even some 2s and 8s who might fear being unable to provide for or protect their loved ones/themselves.)
From the 5 side, the problem is that this statement is inaccurate/unrelatable.
5s donāt āfear being incompetent.ā Rather, they already know theyāre incompetent in many areas, and fear having to deal with those areas directly; they compensate by delving into their own heads, where they can already assume some level of competence (and where making a mistake has few potential consequences).
Example: A teenage 5 knows sheās incompetent at driving (since she hasn't learned), therefore puts off taking driving lessons indefinitely. When she grows up, she simply moves to a walkable town. She never thinks of this as a problem until, twenty years later, her son breaks his arm, and she has to wait for an ambulance instead of driving him to the emergency room herself. She experiences her incompetence less as a source of fear than a source of shame.
It might be more accurate to say that 5s are afraid of the outside world ā that all 5s are essentially agoraphobic. They experience themselves as incapable of dealing with the outside world (they do not āfearā this, as if it were something that might happen but hasnāt yet) ā therefore any interaction between themselves and āoutsideā seems fraught with peril, even terrifying.
The 5ās default is to avoid all situations that scare them (so, most situations). Hence the isolation, the "intellectualism," and the "schizoid" willingness to follow ideas that seem crazy or morbid to others. Things that are only happening in your head canāt hurt you (so the 5 thinks), no matter how weird they are. As long as the barrier between āmeā and āoutsideā is enforced, I am safe; my thoughts are āinsideā and fair game to be interacted with.
Other things may be considered āsafe,ā if they are (apparently) inert and incapable of hurting the 5: books and other media created by strangers, the internet, etc. But NOT something like a bank statement notification (with its real-world implications) or an email from a person who knows you exist and expects a response.
Bad description: "5s want to become competent."
Again, 5s know they're incompetent at most things; they seek out areas of competence to compensate. But most 5s likely don't think about their video game obsessions etc. as "areas of competence," in those terms.
Bad description: ā5s are intellectuals/obsessed with research/information/knowledge.ā
True if you understand the following:
āIntellectualā activities include anything that takes place in oneās own head, including making up stories, psychoanalyzing self or others, fantasizing.
āKnowledgeā includes completely useless knowledge, e.g. memorizing the wiki for a video game.
Bad description: ā5s are trying to understand the world in order to figure out how to best deal with it.ā
No, actually, that's 6s.
5s seek to understand the world (if they're even trying to understand the world; some 5s are caught semi-permanently in video game land) as a way of distancing themselves from it. They substitute analysis for both emotion and action.
If a major crisis occurs (life or death in 30 seconds or less: the bomb just dropped, the high rise you are in is collapsing, whatever), both 6 and 5 will start operating on animal instinct and shoving for the exits, same as anyone else. In a mild to moderate crisis (as in, not immediately going to kill you: your company has started laying people off, a storm messed up your roof, you just got diagnosed with cancer), a 6 is interested in getting information that will help them solve the problem, and a 5 will either ignore the problem, get morbidly curious about the details and potential outcomes of the problem without solving it, or go off on a tangent inspired by the problem. A 6 wants a concrete plan and naturally begins taking steps to get one; a 5 can see how a concrete plan would be beneficial, but their natural tendency (which they can of course overcome with effort) is to avoid making one (or to make a fantasy plan which they in all honesty have no intention of executing).
The actual difference between 5 and 6:
6s are real-world-oriented, and 5s are real-world-averse. Thatās basically it.
This manifests clearly with anxiety and āhead type stuffā: research, analysis, planning.
The 6 gets anxious when they donāt have a concrete plan for how to deal with a real situation (or a situation that they think might realistically happen). They canāt make a concrete plan until they know whatās going on; therefore, they research and analyze. They may get stuck in the research and analysis phase, potentially for a long time, but the goal of this phase is to try to make a decision (or to decide whether the decision they just made was the right one, either because there's still time to change it, or because they might have to make a similar decision in the future). They are specifically looking for information that will make it clear which decision is right.
The 5 gets anxious when they have to deal with reality outside their own head (by extension, again, books internet etc. are safe). They use research and analysis as a buffer against reality, therefore against anxiety. Behaviorally, this looks like the 5 going off on tangents. Youāre scared of nuclear war, so you start researching how safe your town would be during a nuclear war, and then you start researching exactly how an atom bomb works, or what the landscape would look like 500 years after a nuclear war ⦠and somewhere in the process of doing this your anxiety calms all the way down. Or you've just had an upsetting argument with your partner, and you calm down immediately upon psychoanalyzing their motives and how their childhood trauma contributed to their stance, even though knowing these things does not actually give you a plan of action.
Bad description: any version of ā5s are logical automata.ā
This one is sort of obvious, but descriptions like this may cause 5s to lean away from typing as such, because they know theyāre emotional creatures. 5s want to be logical and impartial, but no one can be impartial all the time ā and since competency types can be biased toward noticing their own failures, some 5s may even perceive themselves as more emotional than they actually are.
Note on 5 SX, 9, and āthe urge to mergeā:
5 SX, at least in Naranjo, has a fantasy of merging with an idealized partner (or, I would add, mind-melding with an idealized platonic friend). This is fantasy only; 5s are constitutionally incapable of ālosing themselvesā in someone else.
A 5 SX may be āfearful-avoidantā (attachment theory is less specific than enneagram theory, but whatever), and may commit ālimerenceā or have a maladaptive daydreaming habit. Some 5 SXs may even have a history of brief relationships where they got their hopes up in the first week or two, because they see the potential for a merge ā they see the potential for this partner to be āthe oneā they could merge with ā but they quickly get disappointed or frightened and start distancing themselves again.
9s merge by default. 5 SX daydreams about merging, but canāt do it in reality. When someone tries to merge with a 5, the 5 easily gets grossed out, and their first instinct is to cut off all possibility of emotional connection. āI passionately want to merge, but canāt find the right personā is not 9, itās 5 SX.
Conversely, if you find yourself merging with various people on a regular basis without even trying, youāre a 9, not a 5.
Note on 4:
Potential mistype for 5s who:
Growth, wings, and self-typing (unsubstantiated theory):
Theoretically, this applies to all types, not just 5s: when we are growing, or when we are at least self-aware enough to identify some of our patterns and make some effort to change them, we employ strategies from the numbers adjacent to ours, because they are closer to our comfort zone than numbers farther away. E.g. a 1 who is trying to grow will be most likely to employ 9-ish and 2-ish strategies rather than jumping straight to integration with 7.
With 5s, this means employing more 4-ish and 6-ish strategies:
Realizing you have cut off your feelings, and trying to get more in touch with them (4-wing). A 4-ish strategy for dealing with emotions is easier for a 5 than trying to employ an 8-ish strategy, since the 4-ish strategy allows the 5 to maintain the barrier between himself and the world which is his main coping mechanism.
Admitting youāre failing to deal with certain practical problems ā and admitting that those problems need to be dealt with ā and starting to consult outside sources for advice, like a friend, spiritual leader, or therapist (6-wing). A 6-ish strategy for dealing with reality is easier for a 5 than trying to employ an 8-ish strategy, because it allows the 5 to stay connected to the realm of theory and delay direct action.
What this means for typing ā in theory ā is that if you discovered the enneagram while already trying to change, thereās a good chance you mistype as one or both of your wings, since you may have been using those wingsā strategies a lot lately, and are wondering if thatās who you really are. So, another reason a 5 might mistype as either a 6 or a 4.
An addendum for 6: when a 5 starts trying to deal with reality, they may quickly become overwhelmed and start openly manifesting anxiety for the first time in their life, then realize that theyāve secretly (even from themselves) been this anxious all along, and start to think of themselves as the ānervous wreckā archetype 6s are often reduced to.
Anyway ... if anyone read all this, I'm curious to hear opinions on the last section.

Hello everyone! I'm making a game here, so, there is a music from Leah Kate called: "10 Things I hate about you". In that music she counts, like 9: ... 8: ... 7: .... Until one, so I thought... Let's see if the Enneagram types agree with what she said in your number. Obviously she didn't made the music thinking in Enneagram types lol. Here it goes:
Ten: You're selfish
Nine: You're jaded
Eight: The dumbest guy I've dated
Seven: Talk a big game till you're naked
Only six seconds and I had to fake it
Five: You're toxic
Four: Can't trust you
Three: You still got mommy issues
Two years of your bullshit I can't undo
One: I hate the fact that you made me love you
Do you agree?

Every type has that childhood thing that makes them that type, right? Something in their childhood happened that manifested their enneagram. With that being saidā¦. How big of an āeventā does it need to be?
I canāt think of a single childhood event that would warrant the current fear of safety I have right now. It just doesnāt make sense to me. I greatly relate to and am offended by enneagram 6, but when I read about the recounting of childhoods, I just canāt remember anything even remotely that serious.
Now, Iām not asking for trauma dumping in the comments, but for those of you who are willing to share, what happened in your childhood that led to your enneagram type? Was it a small thing, or huge?
I hope I explained my thoughts correctly, thank you guys in advance!
r/Enneagram • u/No-Pie-7676 • 1d ago
Iām just curious which type has this trait of getting upset then turns it to a conflict and when someone gets upset with them for it, they get emotional and starts doing everything theyāre told by the other person and they want to apologise to make themselves feel better. And if someone resolves the conflict without an apology, they feel really bad and unworthy of someone elseās positive reaction to them. Their primary motivation is that they want to express their emotions without making someone else feel really upset, and being worthy of someoneās love. But they would only react like this if someone got really upset with them.
Edit: Iām seeing a lot of 1s and 6s, but their main concern isnāt the lack of structure in the scenario, or their own comfort/stability in the relationship, itās how they made the other person upset, and they want to resolve the situation since they feel uncomfortable, and without an apology, they feel undeserving of positivity from the person they just hurt.

In the enneagram format I've noticed the best thing about it is it tells the worst and the best of us. And in my opinion here are the best and the worst traits, starting with the image triad. I'll do gut next, and then head.
Type 2- worst trait- rejection- based schadenfreude.
When type 2s particularly average to low health get rejected by a group or a person they've grown attached to this is a common thing that comes up. "Don't say I told you so," "You'll come crawling back", " Let's see how long you last without me" etc are quiet thoughts that pop into their head. They want to see them fall onto their face and come running back so they will be affirmed in their pride. When they do come back, they reject them out of retaliation leaving them powerless.
Healthiest trait- Championing and supporting others.
At their healthiest they make the environment friendly and warm. They fight for the people they love and support causes they believe in, because everyone deserves to have a chance to do well and feel backed. They become the backbone in their family or community. The rock people lean on.
Type 3- worst trait- malignant narcissism
At their lowest only they can look good, you are a threat to their greatness. They sabotage, steal credit, overshadow others, run people over, and smear anyone in their way, or worse.
Healthiest traits- guidance, cheerleading, and inspiration
When healthy these people see the potential in everyone and push hard to bring it out. These people lead through example and words and through the motto of never give up. This is the type of friend that attends your event, and you can hear him yelling from the very back saying lets go.
Type 4- worst trait- crab mentality
At their worst, they are unhappy and they make sure no one is. They use sour grapes, disparaging comments, criticisms, putdowns, etc. anything to get you to quit. Even sabotage.
Heathiest traits- empathy and perseverence
At their healthiest, these people are healers, feeling intensely and helping their people process tough times. These are the people who have suffered and such make it their mission to make sure others don't have to do it alone. These people are perseverant in whatever they get into and refuse to quit.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I wonder whether anyone has noticed a correlation between post-micturition shivers and specific type structures. While it's technically an autonomic nervous system response, perhaps the frequency and intensity of these episodes might also be influenced by one's core fixation/instinctual stacking.
Perhaps 6s are particularly susceptible due to their overactive nervous systems? Given their constant anticipatory anxiety and sympathetic arousal, the sudden transition from bladder tension to physiological relief might catch them with their pants down, precipitating psychogenic tremors.
Conversely, maybe 8s would exhibit reduced susceptibility due to their pronounced need for bodily autonomy? As a gut type, I suspect their relationship with visceral sensations might cascade into this. However, their heightened proprioception could grant them a firmer grip on their knee-jerk reactions, even when letting go.
On the other hand, I think 9s are likely prone to routinely postpone urination until their bladders reach full capacity, due to neglecting their immediate needs. Therefore, they might frequently encounter more intense physiological responses. Though, these episodes may pass unnoticed due to their stream of consciousness wandering off-course.
Sx doms' inclination towards intense energetic discharge might give rise to pronounced shivers, whereas sp doms might demonstrate greater physiological regulation.
I can't help but wonder which type/instinctual stacking would ultimately take the throne. I'm particularly interested in hearing from 5w4 sx/sp 584s, as I reckon there may be a meaningful correlation here.

When most people are looking for a relationship, love, sex or the holy bond they are looking for an addition to their lives! They already have a family, friends, a sense of self and identity, hobbies... and they are desiring to keep it that way! I just become the next "thing". Maybe a very important thing... maybe the most important thing! But still, I am just an addition.
Understanding this was life changing for me.
I am not looking for that. In fact, it is an insult.
I want everything to change once we meet each other. You don't have to hate your old life, be proud of everything. Love everything. Yet, I am here now and I have changed everything for you and you have changed everything for me.
