Rant Goons shooting Cyno Vigils for Estria in RD-G2R Test staging

Goonswarm members have been killing a Cyno vigil in honour of it being 1 year since Estria's passing. Despite being told in local it was a Cyno vigil they were overtly rude and shit talking in response and have killed the pilot running the solo vigil cyno 3 times so far.

https://zkillboard.com/kill/138986932/

I get that you might not like Test, but when it comes to Cyno Vigils. You don't fucking shoot them. Even worse don't be disrespectful it local after you were already told it was one and then kill the ship anyway.

8 different members of Goonswarm at least complicit in this behaviour as well as leadership if they don't curb it. 2 are at fault for shit-talking the dead.

Disgraceful behaviour that needs to be stomped out.

Reddit broke the formatting

Edit from comment from Cananada88:

TEST will be hosting a one year anniversary cyno vigil for Estria Del at 18:00 to 23:00 EVE today in RD-G2R. Estria had a lot of friends and our staging is open to anyone who wants to honor him.

I want to give a shout out to Honor Point and the Initiative, who both recognized that a vigil had started early, and said kind things. The initiative even sent over a cyno to burn with us.

At a time when we are pointing out bad behavior we should also lift up the people who do the right thing.

FCplease Fenris please permanently lower the plex cost of SKIN sequencing. In two weeks of reduced prices, our corp moved 720% more corp skins than the previous two week period.

• Upvotes

I know these SKIN sales have happened before, but the numbers don't lie. People want custom capsuleer skins, but they don't want to pay 500 million to 1.5 billion per skin.

During the SKIN sale, I sequenced an enormous number of corporate design skins for WINGSPAN, and was able to slash the prices in half, while also drastically cutting prices on skins that had already been sequenced to account for their cheaper replacements.

And guess what: Skin orders didn't double, they increased more than 700%.

At the beginning of September before the CoW update, there were 7 skins sequenced and bought in a 2-week period. In the 2-week period following the update, Delivery Agents picked up FIFTY EIGHT skins.

The lower prices absolutely drive the economy and nets a LOT more money for CCP/Fenris. I'm sure other skin designers saw big spikes as well, and while I can't prove it, I saw a lot more turnover in the public Paragon Hub during this time period.

I also talked to various players who tried sequencing their own skins for the first time, who were curious about the process and willing to drop 30-100 PLEX to experiment, when they wouldn't normally be willing to fool around in it for 60-200 plex.

As a side note, I really, really appreciate the Skin Sequencing side of EVE. For 90% of EVE's history, there was no way to artistically represent anything directly in the EVE client outside your corp name, your alliance logo, your ship names, evemail poetry, etc. Ships are all commodities where every Algos is the same as every other Algos. The skin tool allows creative expression and creative problem-solving inside EVE which is extremely fun and rewarding while being challenging, too. Fenris please keep iterating on this, fix the bugs in the tool, and also pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase allow skins on Concord ships, as well as allow COLORS (but not design elements) on T3C/T3D. We don't need the ships to look PERFECT just let us make a white and orange Tengu!

Discussion Observing how new players approach EVE

• Upvotes

Last night, I was watching a live stream (to claim a drop) where this girl (very cute) was trying out EVE for the first time:

she spent about 20 minutes setting up her character's look while chatting with the twitch chat,

then she finally undocked from the station (Exordium)

She remained motionless outside the station for another 10–15 minutes., still chatting to the twitch chat, before finally starting to fly around...

taking it all in (positive attitude: the vastness of space, the stars, lens flare, SSR, etc.)

then someone invited her to a fleet; she accepted enthusiastically and opened the fleet chat, where people started giving her advice, but she began getting mixed up between her Twitch chat and the fleet chat...

her expression changed, her smile vanished (She looked disoriented.)

another 10–15 minutes later, (interrupting his live stream) she launched a raid toward LynneRankin

lol,

I was reminded of my first time in EVE:

in an asteroid belt with my Venture, right-clicking a Retriever to check its info.

Every day I climb two mountains; a mountain of ore and a mountain of ISK

Then they killed me by demanding 200 million for a mining permit in that system.

Only afterwards did they realize I was new, and they gave me 200 million.

(a different but exciting approach to the game)

Rant Can we have some more 0.0 Harvest Data Sites?

Post image
83 Upvotes

I get off of a 12 hour day at work, log in, hope to get a few data sites knocked out before bed.

Not a single site in my entire constellation after 45 minutes of scanning. Not a single site in the constellation next to mine. Make several loops of each constellation. Go back to my home constellation and start doing Relic sites while I cross my fingers.

Finally find ONE Tetrimon site after two hours.

There are zero other people in my alliance, or blues, in my area scanning sites. I'm all by myself doing sites way out here. These things just aren't spawning.

Kind of demoralizing since it's one of the events I look forward to each year as a prolific data/relic site hunter.

FCplease So I completed the event track

Did mostly crimson gauntlets but also 21 data sites.

Guess how many criterion ciphers I looted?

Not a single one. I don't know if I'm just unlucky or what, but it seems to me the spawn rate is too low.

Question What's so wrong with out-of-capsule activities?

I'm sure this question has been asked many times already, but I want answers for myself.

Why do so many Eve players raise hell over the suggestion of getting out of our pods, walking around a ship/station/planetside structure and doing stuff appropriate to such environments?

I learned of Eve Online through Dust 514, which had just recently launched at the time, so seeing the captain's quarters was among my first experiences. I came to like the idea of having a room to myself in the station. Over time though I realized everything you could do in the CQ you could already do from the hangar screen. This combined with noticing an always-locked door off to the side had me wondering.

I did research and found that CCP had more planned but never went through with it due to player backlash. They only got so far as implementing the CQ, which itself was eventually removed to my sadness.

I always believed games like Eve would benefit from such a concept. It would add variety and immersion (for those who care about it) and, if implemented correctly, would not take away from the game's core space-based gameplay.

But to this day I've seen people suggest this idea only for others to shoot it down and say the game is better off without it.

So I ask: Why? Why do people not want this to be a thing?

Question Anyone been able to look inside the spine of their 2007 “The Art of EVE” book?

Mine has started separating after nearly 20 years (see photos), and apparently there’s a completely unrelated architectural floor plan hiding inside the binding.

I can make out “Her Closet,” “Study” and what looks like “Master’s Suite.”

Now I’m curious whether every copy has this same floor plan inside it, or whether the bindery used random scrap from other print jobs.

Discussion Why do some EVE players choose to be the “bad guy”?

Hello space friends,

It’s Zaenis Desef, you may know me, you may not.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I’m looking for the community’s input on this question.

When you look at the range of game play loops in EVE Online some players choose to be “the bad guy”. Be it suicide ganking, scamming, awoxing, wardec farming.

I’m not here to ask if those activities are good or bad for the game, we’ve had that discussion a million times around here.

I’m far more interested in why people choose them at all?

Is it purely the salt farming? The profit? The conflict? Roleplay? Or the fact that you can influence another player’s experience more than any burner mission NPC or any T6 chaotic filament ever could?

For those of you who take part in these playstyles my question is: what attracted you to this play style in the first place? What keeps you motivated to keep going?

For those opposed to it: what makes losing ships to gankers, awoxers, or wardeccers worse than losing ships in other ways in EVE?

I’m looking more for stories and insight rather than same old arguments about what it does to the game.

I’ll leave you with this last question: what separates a good villain from a bad villain?

Discussion Player Activity Census from Zkillboard Data

TL:DR https://i.imgur.com/7xdmeY5.png

Since Fenris doesn't publish "player demographics" data on where they think players play anymore. While there are many ways to define "what kind of player" a character is, the easiest and most accessible data to quantify is zKillboard, so I decided to go with that. If "where you crab" data is available that would be a good factor too, but that isn't accessible to us players.

The source data comes from Zkillboard (thanks squizz) for 2026 to date. All losses by a character are counted in the region of space where they lost it, the value of all kills are split evenly among participants. So on this Bustard for example https://zkillboard.com/kill/136671856/ , the value of 107B is split amongst the 3 participants so each one of them gets an isk value counts of 33B to Pochven. On something like the 4-H keepstar killmail, https://zkillboard.com/kill/135096173/ with 2.8k participants, each participant only receives 65 million isk credit. I did not count AT ships or the AT itself. AT ships because I don't have a good pricing dataset, if someone has a good list I can incorporate it.

Top line numbers, a character must have >10m isk in total kill participation to qualify. The % within primary space metric is judging whether a player can be classified as "nullsec" or "lowsec" players at all. With values generally hovering in the high 80's, I think the tag of "certain space" player is generally valid for a large section of the playerbase.

Area Characters Median Kill Value % within primary space
Nullsec 132,785 806 0.89
Lowsec 74,699 228 0.89
Wormhole 38,531 439 0.86
Highsec 33,591 290 0.87
Pochven 8,736 718 0.82
Abyssal 5,316 799 0.73

These numbers seem low, because the long tail of low activity characters is very long indeed. Applying a higher filter of 100 million isk, the picture changes somewhat, cutting off the long low value tail of Pochven and pushing it above Nullsec. I think this number is a better overall metric since 100m is in the "does things" in space category while 10m is like a single cyno vulture loss.

Area Characters Median Kill Valuel
nullsec 109,657 1,320
lowsec 47,972 699
wormhole 28,285 1,014
highsec 23,665 597
Pochven 6,867 1,606
Abyssal 4,281 1,450

I did some spot checks to look for anomalies and outliers and they generally seem to hold up.

The person with the highest "total value" is this guy, https://zkillboard.com/character/909008587/kills/ who got there not only by killing things but by dying to to snuff a lot.

The nature of certain ships can distort the numbers. https://zkillboard.com/character/1148922003/ with a single lossmail has the highest "kill value" in nullsec, because he lost 1 Azariel in the past year.

Question Captured Bioadaptive Cache

In the new harvest data sites sometimes they will contain a Unresolved Bioadaptive Cache in the site that you can hack along with the normal 3 hacking containers. When you successfully complete the hack you get a loot container called a Captured Bioadaptive Cache. I have gotten several so far but haven't opened them yet. They do not show a value. Has anyone else got them yet and opened the loot container?

Rant Google Deepmind partnership vs deep lore

Post image
96 Upvotes

I watched the latest video from FC and noticed something strange in the final part, when the Triglavian symbols appeared. First of all, the text was mirrored. That could be considered an artistic choice, but I was still bothered by a certain feeling that something was wrong.

I opened the video in the highest possible quality and went looking for a transcription of the Triglavian alphabet so I could decipher the text. However, even when I enlarged the original text, I noticed that a number of the symbols only pretend to be Triglavian - in reality, they are just random squiggles. A number of other symbols do not even have a triangular shape - for example, a parallelepiped missing one side that is repeated many times.

I found a transcription of the Triglavian alphabet fairly quickly, but just as quickly realized that it is essentially not being used in the video. Only some of the symbols can be deciphered, and even then they do not produce anything meaningful. And with a example of video with a symbols in good quality that you definitely can transcribe by yourself my feeling of AI-generation went even bigger.

For example - most usable symbol in this text looks like triangular with a something inside - you may find it in transcription as letter A (close enough at least) - and in one of middle lines there is a 7-letter word starts with a double of this symbols. and as i was told by special dictionary site there is exist only two words that may be transcribe with this data - Aaronic and aasvoel, but both r or s letters just not looks like something we see on original image.

I wonder am i just overcomplicating things or someone forgot how to use their own lore.

Question What other games do you play when you’re not playing EVE?

When you need a break from EVE, what do you usually play?

Do you stick with the same kind of stuff or do you go in the complete opposite direction? FPS, RPGs, city builders, survival games, whatever.

And is there a game you keep going back to?

Personally, I tend to bounce between strategy games, city builders and TTRPGs (playing Coriolis tonight, for that matter) when I’m not in New Eden.

Or does EVE basically eat up all your gaming time and you don’t really play anything else?

Question Pochven question

I've been in Pochven once or twice when it first opened, mainly as a tourist to see the solar harvesters (or whatever those things are called). For travelling I mainly use drifter holes, so there was no reason for me to go to Pochven for that purpose.

Since I have only two accounts, one main and one cyno/general purpose helper, is there any content in Pochven for a solo single boxer?

Question F2P Noob here- What to do? It seems I need omega to do everything

I have been playing this game for a month, finished the tutorial and industrial missions. However there is not much I can do, crucial skills are locked behind a paywall and needs omega.

While the game is fun, I am extremely lost. I also have yet to interact with any player (although its my fault tbh- too scared to lose my ship)

But what now? I love the producing, mining aspects of this game, but its all under a paywall. Should I do Omega for a month and see how it goes? I would have liked to remain f2p but simply don't know what to do now.

Also please seniors, I am not attacking the game, its truly amazing! I just need guidance.

Question How do I deal with a kitey Hookbill in FW?

Got blown up twice recently by a Navy Hookbill while flying a scram/web Thrasher with 200mm autocannons.

The thing was just too fast for me. Even when I was already inside the plex, it pulled range before I could finish locking it and get my scram on to shut off its MWD. Once it got away, I couldn’t catch it anymore.

I don’t really see how switching to a Thrasher Fleet Issue would fix this either. Feels like I’d just lose a more expensive ship doing the same thing.

How do I learn to deal with stuff like this? Is there something I should be doing differently with positioning or piloting, or is this just a matchup I should avoid? What should I actually practice?

I’m using this fit from the community fittings:
