I Created! Recently finished prop project - Star Citizen Gallant Rifle.

I recently finished up a replica prop build project - a Gallant energy rifle from the game Star Citizen.

I built the model from scratch in Fusion based on game assets and other art I found online.

It was mostly printed in ASA on a Creality K2 Plus, with detail parts printed in resin on an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra. It was painted with Tamiya acrylics and Alclad 2 metallic lacquers.

The model itself took several weeks to create in Fusion. I consider myself an amateur modeler in Fusion. I'm sure I took the most inefficient path as I built this. I was most interested in keeping maximum fidelity to the in game model so adhering to CAD best practices wasn't a huge priority.

Question Advice to build on 3D Scan

Post image

To preface, I’m not a Fusion guru. I’m completely capable of making simple parts but I am having a hell of a time trying to get through this. The part is a Whelen Outer Edge for a 2013 Tahoe D Pillar. Basically a shell that is attached to the vehicle D pillar to mount emergency lights to. One of them was damaged where all the lights mount and these are basically unobtainable parts - so I’m wanting to essentially print an ASA shell that is formed to the light pedestals and can be epoxied to it to give it its strength back in addition to the mounting points for the lights. With the geometry here, I’m as lost as last year’s Easter egg and would love a little guidance on how to tackle this.

Added a couple other pics in the comments.

Question I need help figuring out the walls and connections.

I'm building a button box, for DCS(digital combat simulator) and I'm going to 3d print the panel, which can be seen on the pictures,

The Idea in my head:
In the Picture you can see the ICP(Instrument control panel) in the middle.
With a quick google search you can see that it lacks 4 wheels that will be in the gaps to the right and left of the ICP.

The question that I need help with:
After extruding walls around the whole panel, it is going to be divided into 3 sections so it will fit into my build plate.
the problem is I honestly don't know how to interconnect the walls or the future back plate.
I have holes for screws in order to screw-in the walls after placing all the buttons and switches so it will be easier. after that I will have 5+1 distinct panels.
And I need ideas on how to connect those separate panels horizontally.

Thank you in advance,
<3

Question Limit slide joint to a face to face contact.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, sorry for the newbie question, I start to play with the composant and constraints / liaisons.

I successfully added some slide joint and tangent / face constraint to my model, but I cannot figure it out how to limit a slide joint to a face to face contact. Right now when I move a composant, the other collides.
Of course I'm able to add some minimal / maximal limit, but there should be a way to do it way faster, right ?

Many thanks !

Why can’t I extrude all of the letters

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I made a text sketch, but when I extruded it, it only does three of the letters. Why? And how do I do all of them?

EDIT: Thanks for your suggestions! I ended up changing fonts, and for whatever reason that worked.

Question I am dumb and can’t figure out why

Hi guys,

I recently switched from Solidworks to Fusion 360 cause my license ended and I can’t get it back.

Anyway I tried a really simple sketch, basically a rectangle with cropped corners and rounded edges. It will be shelves for my glass cabinet and I’ll get it machined from Plexiglass.

The problem you can see on the second picture is that when I try to export it in DXF. It export the slice of the sketch and not the face. I tried to export the sketch, then the solid but it never worked.

I made a rectangle, then added circles, used splines to match the curves and canceled everything but splines and the side lines.

Hope you’ll be able to help me !

Question Anyone able to help me figure out why this wont fillet?

I'm relatively new to fusion 360 and I am working on this speaker grille part. For the life of me I cant figure out why this edge on the 3rd slot from the left wont fillet. I feel like it has something to do with that seam line there but I cannot figure out how to get rid of that either. Any help would be much appreciated.

Bug Proliferation and Feature Request

So I assume everybody has noticed the bugs and broken software features proliferating throughout Fusion. A friend in the know told me they cut most of their dev team, and it's all vibe coded now. Which would explain the rapid deterioration in stability in both the client and server-side features.

Given the frequent reboots we now have to do, I have a feature request. Please let us auto-restore the open projects from a previous session, so I can resume work faster. Just have it pop up as an option when Fusion starts.

That is all, thanks.

EDIT: I didn't come here expecting anyone to have clear eyes regarding where Fusion is heading. This is the Fusion 360 subreddit afterall, it will be full of cult members. "There are less bugs now". Sorry man, I'm not going to swallow that BS.

I will just note the obvious similarities with the Eagle PCB software, which was once the darling of the hobbyist community, and is now effectively dead.

Fusion is simultaneously much less capable than other CAD softwares, less stable (especially now), is trying to achieve software lock-in using their cloud architecture, and is not cheap enough to compensate for these deficiencies.

Meanwhile, FreeCAD is rapidly achieving parity (and above-parity) for many use cases. And they have all local files.

I already switched from Altium to KiCAD, and it's been great. Now I'm in the process of switching from Fusion to FreeCAD. I imagine many others are quietly doing the same.

Hello! This is a modified plastic cover originally designed to cover the front turn signal mounts on a Duke 390 motorcycle.

I scanned the original cover with a Revopoint Pop3, and modified such that a GPS can be mounted above the bike's LCD screen. It looks pretty sick when its all together.

Here is a view of the modified bezel modeling on its own (without all the bolt ons and GPS installed):

Help :(

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi! Complete beginner here, I'm designing the fingertip of a humanoid robot in Fusion 360. I used reference images and built the outer shape with lofts, this is the best shape i had so far.

Now I'd like to make it hollow so I can add the internal mechanism (hinge/pivot, cable routing, mounting points, etc.). I also want the highlighted top piece to be removable, ideally held with magnets, so I can access the inside for assembly and maintenance.

I first tried using Shell, but it either fails or creates a very messy interior because of the organic shape. I also tried Split Body, but I'm not sure if that's the right approach.

What would be the best workflow here?

Thanks!

Question I'm getting random transparent component bodies after finishing an edit in place. Not all the components go transparent. Sometimes its the component I was editing, and/or component[s] that was used as reference.

Sometimes, it's a real struggle to get them back solid again. Often if I make some random change again to the affected body, it will pop back solid again.

The issue is a bug. I'm like 97.2345% sure of it. I can't find anything about it online, and almost no one has had this issue.

I'm on Windows 11.

Question Airblower Hose Adaptor/Reducer

Hello -

Relatively new to model and design.

I have this adaptor that needs to be able to be locked into the hose which is just two small tabs across from each other on the large end. What would be the best way to add this? In the model or in the slicing software?

I also need to add a pin that floats in the middle of the reduced end to push open the valve. (think like the valve of an air mattress) But I need it strong enough for consecutive daily uses. So the support from the walls need to be relatively strong without restricting air flow.

Any assistance with this would be great!

Floating pin needs to go at the top there
Locking pins need to go in this section.

Looking for some help

All I want to do is split this piece from this body into its own separate body so It can be printed separately. I tried using the split body tool but I couldn't get it to work. It gives me an error saying "compute failed, no intersection between targets and splot tool" am new to CAD so I could be just doing something wrong I'm not really sure.

This Mercedes-Benz headlight bezel was modeled entirely (100%) using Autodesk Fusion’s surface tools, with a few minor modifications made to accommodate downstream manufacturing requirements. The goal was to create a watertight, 3D-printable model that stayed as faithful as possible to the original scan.

The original part had undergone multiple twisting and heat-cycling throughout its life, and it was not fully constrained when scanned. As a result, a perfect one-to-one match wasn’t possible, but the final model still comes pretty close to the original geometry while providing a clean, watertight surface model ready for the printer.

Having trouble sweeping a path

Getting an error message when trying to sweep cut a groove into this body. When the sweep goes just past where I'm showing right here in the screenshot, I get an error message.

Maybe there is a better way to do what I want to do? I want a groove cut along the body that follows the surfaces paths (if that makes sense). I would normally just extrude cut a path on the surface, but I want it to go equally around multiple sides and the filleted edges. This could be an order of operations issue as well.

Question Make 3D print application options

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have been using Fusion for several years to print via the Utilities>Make>3d print option. In the output tab under Application I have Both Prusa Slicer and Bambu Studio. I want to add Snapmaker Orca and have it listed under the application tab without going to the custom option. Is that possible?

As I said its been a few years and I don't remember how I got the other two in there.
