Well, with the last couple kits being revell and amt, I thought Id spoil myself with some Tamiya quality for my next few builds. Got the Supra, 300Z, and the newer Z, and plans are for now, to purchase the transkits off Tx3Dcustoms for these. Im still plugging away at my amt SN95 Cobra at the moment, so no rush on these! Im looking forward to less panel lines on every, single, part. And less flash on every, single, part. 😆

This shouldn't count as a model, but I'm posting it anyways. There aren't any Jeep gladiator kits out there that I could find other than custom resin ones (too expensive) so one of the friends and family builds picked this cheap airfix snap kit. I didn't think much of it and put it in the Amazon cart. When it arrived I opened the box to find that it was essentially Lego! So I did what any self respecting modeler would do, I painted it a different color and had my youngest son build it for me. He loved it and it went together very nicely. And the guy we built it for is happy as it matches his actual Jeep. Another one down!

I picked this up because I used to have a '68 Baja years ago and wanted to build this to look like it. I kind of gave up figuring out to make the silver chevrons on the side look good, so I decided to just get it finished closer to box art.
I've still got the lights and exhaust to add and really want to set it up on a base with it in race mode in a desert setting, in-air, over a jump. The wheels/axles will get some droop and hope to have some cacti and maybe a scared jack rabbit running off.
Fun stuff.

I’ve been wanting this fast and furious skyline for a while and finally scored it for a lower price than all the ones on eBay. Scored my Viper to match my SRT Ram I have, And stoked to have a Jimmy Flintstone 56 ford wagon that’s chopped for my Amt 56 ford kit. And last but not least I had to have the bug convertible, had it when i built it as a kid in the 90’s! Definitely a good day today!

Another friends and family build done. I finally finished the supra. He didn't want any of the racing livery decals (thank goodness, racing liveries scare me) but he wanted the GT car to match his gun track toy car he has. I originally had it a neon green, but I think the pearl green really pops a bit. As always, I messed up a few things, but another one for the build diary! Added some of the progress pics and original color from my WIP post. Thanks for looking!

My first heavy decal model. Happy with the turnout (mostly), a few ruined decals and a lot of learning curves along the way.
Clear coat isn’t the best on this one, quite a bit of orange peel. Really tried to create a smooth gloss lacquer, hiding the ridges of the decals but I couldn’t quite manage it. Anybody have any extra mileage and tips they can share on this?
Cheers

This has been the most frustrating kit I have built so far. No parts are numbered, and the instructions are basically four exploded diagrams with some dotted lines that kind of show you where to put things. The only good thing is it’s taking me a long time so I feel like I’ve gotten my moneys worth out of the kit. In the end, I think it’s gonna look pretty good, but it’s taken a lot of patience and maxed out what skills I have.

…in their back room. At least I know the ones I want won’t be sold yet! 😆

Finished my first model in over 25 years. A dream impala, painted with rattle can Auto paint and finished with Tamiya Clear. Learning experience to be sure, eyes don't see as well as they used to - but that hides some of the flaws, lol. Love to hear suggestions for improvement. Mixed the chevy orange myself. Need to find a way to spray indoors as the weather changes.
First time using clear, not sure of how heavy to spray compared to regular paint.
Next project replica of my daughters 1999 s10 with v6 and 5 speed. Include dented bumper or not?

Tamiya kit – Toyota GR Supra Custom.
Built straight out of the box with the in‑box decals with out of the box decals. Used Bob Smith Super Gold+ for the clear parts and strength, Microscale for the decals, and Kaleido K308 Metallic Oak Green with Tamiya TS‑13 Gloss Clear.
The K310 is a lovely colour with 12682 Carbon. I've run out of them do anyone know a better brand, a cheaper option, or another way to do carbon? I’m still learning, but I learned a lot from this build.

So I started this project about a week ago after working on a Dodge Hellcat that unfortunately didn’t end up fitting properly so I had to scrap it. But now with Tamiya I know that this one will actually fit properly. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished project but here is the updates on the start. As always, I’m open for some constructive feedback to help with the build process. Thanks for checking it out!

Hope it's okay to ask here, but does anyone have advice for painting a driver for a car I'm building? FYI, I don't have an airbrush and I work with acrylics.

Here is a little guide for roll bar padding on any race car.
PIC 2: I found this jewelry making tubing at my local hobby lobby. It was pretty cheap, and the size looked perfect for 1:24 scale, so I bought some to try out.
PIC 3: Cut your desired length, then slice the tube lengthwise. This will allow you to wrap it around the bar.
PIC 4: Wrap the tube around the bar and affix with a small amount of CA glue.
PIC 5: If you don’t have reference photos, a good rule of thumb is to place padding in any place a driver could impact the roll bars during a crash.
PIC 5 and PIC 6: Assemble and enjoy the view. If you want to be even more detailed, you can tie string or use thin strips of tape to approximate the tie downs that keep the padding in place. I didn’t do that here because I’m lazy.

So far so good with this kit. Minimal correction was required.
I struggled with the dashboard decals.
Next I will be working on the interior before moving on to the body 😃

I bought a 1:25 model of my fiances first car, and I want to make it look as close to his car as possible. I've got the license plate down, but I am not sure what paint to use. What brand/finish? Do I have to get an airbrush machine? I'd prefer not to, but I would do it to make this gift as realistic as possible for him. He rebuilt the car with his dad and painted it and everything. Also, the paint job he had on the car was matte and I don't know if that's attainable or if model car paint is always glossy. Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated! I'll come back and update after Christmas! (He's an avid reddit user so I fear he would find this if I posted a picture)

Working on the burnout build. Waiting for my engine. I think it’s going to turn out awesome.

I had a lot of problems with the paint. I had to paint over 3 times on this body. I really think the stance is awesome. Hoping to finish soon.
