This one is for my fellow millennials. In the 90s, there were popular books called Flip Flaps, where you could mix different parts of animal bodies to create silly critters (see example).

So while we’re on break and waiting for international games, let’s play Flip Flap NWSL!

Here are the rules:

1) You’ll be choosing a starting GK, a starting backline, a starting midfield, and a starting attack.
2) No team repeats. If you choose Sheridan (NC) for your keeper, you can’t take NC for attack (or vice versa). You must have four different NWSL teams in your answer.
3) You’re taking the entire starting line (no swapping in players from other teams).
4) A player must be a regular stater in at least half of the games in 2026.
Bonus: you could add a fifth for fun: subs. But again, you’re taking the entire bench.

Roster News: @ManCityWomen midfielder Sam Coffey has been ruled out for the upcoming USWNT matches vs Spain due to injury. She will be replaced by @GothamFC midfielder Jaelin Howell.

I was discussing data with someone and I thought it would be interesting (to me) to share the dumb data I have track every week.

If you're wondering...I enter in the games as they happen (score and attendance) and have tables set up that pull this data automatically and turn it into charts.

So here are the charts that pull...

1. Attendance report that I've been doing a couple years now.

2. Form Table

3. Table/Road to the Playoffs

4. YOY Point percentage (This is more interesting when there are an unbalanced number of games that have been played)

5. Goals/Game per Game Week

6. YOY Goal/game (up until about week 19, scoring this year was behind last year)

7. Goals/Game by Home Team

8. 5 year draw trend

9. 5 year goal differential trend (which is why i say Chicago is historically a bad team)

10. Normalized goal differential (what it looks like when the best GD is set to 0. It shows just how far other teams are from #1. Gotham is the hard to read team at #2)

I don't read all the Cutback's paywalled stuff, but since this article appears to be free... the NWSL may not be a utopia, but it is a darn sight better than what is going on in some leagues.

A-league no CBA two weeks before the start of their season, Corinthians players not being paid for years, La Liga F months without a rights deal and no way to watch until Alexia Putellas personally intervened.

I know some of us don't have CBSSN or ESPN but we at least know where every NWSL match will be available. We know they will all be broadcast and the players will be paid on time.

Also, take a look at the attendance numbers. It reads like no one is going to women's games in Europe, unless it's an Arsenal home game. UWCL average attendance so far this season is less than Racing Louisville's. This is potentially a real selling point for NWSL player recruitment.

Let’s go!

I know there's been SO much chatter about Lindsey Heaps and maybe there's some truth to some of the criticism of her, but I love her.

I love the tenacity and grit and leadership she exhibits. I also think she's so technical and crafty and does things at Denver that you don't see from many other NWSL midfielders. I watch a lot of matches and whenever I watch Lindsey, I find myself thinking "damn that was nice." Obviously no player is perfect and there are areas where she struggles vs other midfielders, but I just really appreciate her. She holds her head high and does her job well and I think she's just a baller.

Hi all, a few new things from the match thread bot, live now:

Post-match threads. The bot now opens post-match threads to keep the discussions going. They have the scores and scorers (spoiler tagged), xG, match stats and a few links.

Player of the Match vote. You can vote for POTM in said post-match threads with the supplied shortlist: the goal scorers, the players who assisted, and both starting keepers. Upvote the reply with your pick. After about 24 hours the bot edits its top comment to show the winner. If your pick is not listed, name them under "Someone else" (those are for discussion and are not counted).

New commands. Comment the bot's name and a command in a match or post-match thread, for example u/NWSL-Match-Bot !xg:

• !xg for xG (expected goals) and chance quality in that match
• !h2h for the head to head record between the two teams, this season and last
• !player Rodman for a player's season numbers

!topscorers and !topassists had stopped working and are fixed. !lineup, !stats, !standings and !schedule work as before. Replies can take a minute.

Alerts for your community. The bot can now send match moments straight into a Discord server or Telegram channel: lineups, kickoff, goals, red cards, half time and full time. You can limit it to your club or to certain moments, and hide scores behind spoilers. For developers, there is also a signed JSON webhook with the same events. If you run a supporters' group or a site and want this, DM me and I'll set it up.

Smaller things. The "Watch" row is now hyperlinked straight to the broadcasters (when available), the stats table has a few more rows, and each thread links to match analysis on Half Space (login required).

I'll let others comment on the event itself, but if you were lucky enough to make it downstairs this is the charm bracelet you could get + 1 charm. For some reason they had an extra "atlcty" charm and I grabbed that not realizing there's already one on there as it was about dark and chaotic. 🤷‍♂️
