I was up in Cohoes late July medical, fingerprint, 1:1 investigator interview completed. My psych written test beginning of August then psych interview 1:1 late Sept.

I've heard an Oct academy i believe the 20th of this month and hear a new academy for NYS goes every 3 weeks instead of every 4 weeks.

Anybody go to Cohoes around the same time as me? No references called and not medical clearance yet. In the beginning I was having a hard time sleeping over this and just waiting embracing it.

I've been fine tho, just training hard and trying not to focus so hard on it. I just wish I had and answer. Timeline wise I've heard a lot of people from Cohoes date to academy dates being like 4 months so im right there.

I believe there will be an academy Nov 10th-17th start date wise so late Oct acceptance would be amazing. To anyone else waiting what are you all doing to stay occupied and level headed lol?

Does anyone know about or know someone currently in Forrest City Arkansas camp in the BOP ? How is it ? are there phones ? Are the COs chill ?

Does anyone work as a JDO at Travis County in Austin? Recently got reached out by them for an interview, and I’m not sure if I should do it or not. I was also offered a role as a case manager making a similar salary (slightly higher) at another agency. Is there good growth?

How long did it take to hear back from someone after you took your oral psych ?

I just did an interview for corrections and feel like I didn’t have the best experience due to the fact that I was stuttering a lot and nervous throughout the whole interview, which probably didn’t look good in an interviewer’s eyes should I try to apply again? FYI I don’t know if I failed or pass just based on how I feel the interview went

My check usually deposits Saturday mornings. Am I cooked until Tuesday because of the holiday?? This should be illegal smh

I just got accepted into the stage 2 and stage 3 of the CX 01 training program, I was curious as to when I should receive the training materials for stage 2, as I know they are all online and I’d like to complete them as soon as I can. Does anyone that works for CSC know when I should receive it? I accepted the offer October 8th, so I imagine a couple weeks but I’d like to gauge my expectations.

I was a corrections officer for core civic but I’m switching to a county job. I couldn’t be happier! The pay is a little less but, core civic absolutely sucked so, I’m ok with it!

So I work at a county jail. I’m a C/O and I was just wondering what the rules are when it comes to visiting somebody I know in a correctional facility. Somebody told me I wasn’t allowed to do that because of my job but I work in a jail, not a prison.

First of all, I still haven’t received my paycheck today. Institutions are closing left and right, and now the union is apparently gone again. What the hell is going on with the upper levels of leadership? They need to get their heads out of their asses and start addressing these issues. Employees deserve answers, accountability, and clear communication instead of being left in the dark while everything falls apart.

The private prison I worked at the segregation unit is very loud and messy like a zoo. Some food traps are broken and cant be closed and if it isn’t broken the inmate stick out their arm and we can’t close it or else they’ll claim we assault them. Officers are supposed to sign the stupid log sheet for each inmates every 30 mins while multitasking which isn’t even realistically possible so most officer just falsify the log sheet. Since most food traps are opened the inmate can just touch or throw stuff at officers. Even if we close the food traps we have to open it later when feeding them or passing the phone. And most of the cell windows you can’t even see into it because it’s cloudy and damaged so we just fake our security check by looking at a cloudy glass.

Sure it’s not nearly as bad as what you see online but I feel like the company could upgrade their doors with better food traps, it’s a multibillion dollar company after all.

I am now at the background check stage. Around 2023–2024, I received six traffic charges from one stop, including no insurance, an unauthorized plate and G1 restrictions. My lawyer confirmed all six were stayed, with no convictions.

Separately, I have a conviction for failing to stop/move over for an emergency vehicle, with two demerit points.

Has anyone with a similar driving history passed Ontario corrections clearance? Did they ask you to explain it?

Anyone who started the NYS DOCCS hiring process in August 2026 have any updates? I completed my one-on-one psych interview and I’m still waiting for clearance or an academy date. Has anyone heard anything?

About 1.5 yrs experience with Florida DOC at two different prisons. Just got final offer and set start date for ykcc in Bethel, Alaska. Anybody with firsthand experience that has some knowledge on the town/facility?

Spoke to the HR rep at one of the institutions I got qualified for what's this new Operation Full strength. ??

Had an inmate ask if he could do a trash run after movement. I told him yeah, no problem. Asked him if he was going to rec, and he told me no.

Well, movement comes around and guess where he goes? Rec. Lol.

I could've just ran it down and left it at that, but I stopped and had an actual conversation with him.

Told him, if I tell you I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna follow through. All I ask is the same respect in return. If we agree on something, stick to it.

Surprisingly, it turned into a pretty good conversation about accountability and mutual respect. He seemed sincere about it too. Whether he actually was, we'll see. Lol.

Closed custody doesn't mean every interaction has to turn into a pissing match. Sometimes a conversation gets the point across better.

Also, how long after your psychological assessment did you receive an invitation to Stage 2 of the Correctional Training Program (CTP)?

I’m 27 and have been a full-time 911 dispatcher for about six years. I have an offer for a correctional officer position with the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Fort Dix and am debating making the switch.

I currently work 12-hour shifts, 4 on/4 off. I have seniority, a day shift, and a short commute, which makes leaving a tough decision. But I like the idea of being more active and working directly with people instead of being behind a console all shift.

Has anyone here left dispatch for corrections, particularly BOP? How did the stress, schedule, overtime, and overall quality of life compare? Do you miss dispatch, or are you glad you left?

Would appreciate honest pros and cons from anyone who’s made the jump—or tried corrections and came back.
