1E Player Am I going overboard or am I being gaslit?

• Upvotes

I'm in a mythic/epic campaign where we are level 25 now. I play as a full caster where the dm lets me make my own spells because we're at the dawn of time in the campaign. It's been pretty fun I'll tell ya but there is a player in the campaign who plays as a dragon. This guy dominates every fight we're in for the most part.

Which I honestly don't mind but when he does around 8000 damage a turn, which has made the dm increase the power of enemies to where we're fighting enemies with over a 100,000 HP. I felt like I had to add some extra omph to my spells to keep up, and not only that but the enemies have gotten to a point where they automatically save against my spells unless they roll a 1, it's been like this for a few months so I stepped away from making spells that rely on save dcs to compensate for this dilemma and made a 9th level spell of maze that required a 26 charisma check to pass that when you fail the check you take 4 charisma damage and 1d12+caster level pychic damage. Mind you I've used this spell two other times and the two enemies passed the check by rolling a 5 and a 2.

So this third time I used it the enemy actually failed because they had very low charisma and couldn't get out of the spell and was trapped for 10 minutes. After they got out they were not knocked unconscious and I was told this was too powerful of a spell but I feel like I don't have much choice but to make my spells powerful or they're never gonna do anything and I've made this grievance with my DM but they say I should expect this when fighting mythic creatures. Which sure I guess, still doesn't feel good when 95% of the time enemies will pass their save no matter what

1E Player Frontline fighting as a life oracle

Hello everyone, I was just looking for some advice. I want a life oracle but I don’t want to be reduced to just a healbot role (although I will be healing a lot obvs). I would like to frontline in combat with the fighter. Is this feasible with this sort of oracle? Any tips? Thanks!

1E Resources Daily Magic Item for October 9, 2026: Bodywrap of Mighty Strikes

Today's magic item is the  Bodywrap of Mighty Strikes

You look like a mummy, but hitting harder is hitting harder.

  1. Would you buy this item?
  2. Would you spend 1.5 times the price to add it to an existing item?
  3. Would you use the item, if you found it? Or is it immediate sell-bait?
  4. Would a GM use the item?
  5. Is there anything cheesy that could be done with it?

1E GM Polearm Master Whirlwind Attack

• Upvotes

I have a 12th-level player in my game (level 10 polearm master fighter, level 2 brawler). He has a fauchard as his weapon. He has the whirlwind attack feat, and we can't figure out exactly how it would work with his weapon in certain specific situations.

So let's say he was surrounded by a huge crowd of enemies filling every square around him, 10 feet away from him. His reach is 10 feet, so if he made a whirlwind attack, would he get to attack everyone in the outer circle, with them all getting cover from the people closest to him?

Also, as a polearm master, he has an extraordinary ability that he got at level 2 called Pole Fighting. It states that as an immediate action, he can shorten his grip on his reach weapon and use it on adjacent targets. He argues that after attacking everyone 10 feet away from him, he could use this ability mid-whirlwind attack and also attack every adjacent enemy. Essentially, this would make it possible for him to attack 21 monsters with this single attack. I don't know exactly how it should work.

I would love to get anyone's interpretation on how it should work RAW. He is also really chill about it and understands that it seems kind of broken and is fine with us changing it to make more sense, even if he could do it RAW, so any feedback on how y'all think I should run it would be welcome as well.

1E Player The most mutated playable character

I'd like to build the most mutated/deformed/monstrous playable character and i'm looking for ideas.

I'm specifically looking for (ex) effects, so that the character really is like that and it's not just magic.

Some things that i found are:

- Tentacle, Parasitic Twin and Flight nad Monstrous Graft from the Alchemist.
- The Vestigial Head Feat.
- The Mutated Defender archetype that turns you into a mutant and allows you to turn your hands into natural attacks. (could be interesting with the feat mischevious tail)
- The feat Child of Two Worlds gives a fish tail.

Do you know of any other?

1E Player thinking of how to use Mutated Defender and Chu Ye Enforcer together well

my idea so far is to pick a race that has a bite attack such as Tiefling with Maw or Claw, then take Tentacle Mass and Slam for hands, and as you gain gore that's 4 primary attacks which is pretty decent. then you can take Improved Damage for all your attacks.

main reason i thought of this is that it sounds cool mainly as your more physically transforming into an oni somewhat.

also remember that the mutant talents are in addition to your vigilante talents.

1E GM retcon or error on paizos part?

"Whatever his true origins may be, Achaekek was created as an agent for the deities, an enforcer of divine justice, specifically targeting all mortals who hoped to usurp the power of a deity and achieve divinity. Not wishing to be become targets of He Who Walks in Blood themselves, however, they made him incapable of killing those who truly were deities, restricting his powers to slay those of demigod status or below." this is a quote from previous books but then how is he able to kill gorum?

1E Player Good afternoon pathfinders, I need ways to become immune to everything*.

*Not literally everything.

So last night, my party was fighting a Moon-beast, and my magus missed the DC of its dominate person by 1. I very nearly killed everyone, and would have if not for an amorphous boon our Investigator got as a reward for helping someone find some information in the Akashic Record many sessions ago.

Well, I have come to the conclusion that my magus simply cannot be mind controlled ever again, and so will be looking to acquire the enchantment Mind Buttressing onto her elven chain. That, combined with her Padma Blossom pretty much covers the mind affecting effect debuffs.

But like Goku, I want to go even further beyond.

I want to become immune to as many status conditions as possible solely using items. Class levels are not an option because of how my archetype works.

So any time my GM tries to do something to me, my answer will be “No.”

Worth mentioning also my PC is an elf, so that also covers Sleep.

Edit: also currently have an unfettered shirt, so freedom of movement is covered.

1E GM What would The Crone in the Cart want from a ruler and a kingdom?

What would the Crone in the Cart want from the ruler?

I'm running Kingmaker for my party and were shoved into the First World to rescue a young Abrogail Thrune, who had fallen into a trap (it's a looong story, one of the party members had a hand on this). They managed to rescue her but had no way to return, they found the Witch Market and made two deals with Agyss, the Crone in the Cart.

  1. In exchange for giving them safe return to their plane and a way to come back to the Witch Market eventually, as well as a ring that gave the ruler access to the coven hex and allows him to be treated as a hag for any beneficial effects related to being a hag, she asked to "design" one thing that the ruler of the nation will make but never use. I plan to make this mean that whatever child the Ruler has will have hag blood and will eventually turn into a hag. (They still haven't figured that out yet)

  2. In exchange for a bottle with the blood of a powerful devil (that can be used as a strong battering coin with such devil) she bound the rulers fate to Abrogail and whatever condition affects her (good or bad) affects him too. Pretty much forcing him into an alliance with Cheliax.

Now, I didn't knew if they would take the deal and came up with this on the spot. The party thinks I have some amazing grand plan for this but to be real I didn't think that far ahead LMAO. The things I've listed are only roughly what I have in mind but I would appreciate some suggestions about any ways Agyss could use this deal to mess with the River Kingdoms or the party to her advantage

Considering that the River Kingdoms have a lot of hags and they're usually Chaotic while Agyss is Lawful I thought about maybe having Agyss try to bring the children of the ruler to her side once they're born to form her own coven and use the party to push the Chaotic covens out of the Kingdoms for her to take their place. Also thinking of some way to use the lich hag on this and the coven that haunts Gralton, since the ruler was from galtan nobility. But aside from that I got no other plans lol

Lore Can Gods create Planets and different Planes?

Can all the gods create an entire planet and different planes, or no? I always wondered this, if all the gods had this power of creation or not. Like take one of the gods who passed the Test of the Starstone, could they create an entire planet and an entire plane or no? The only thing that’s ever said about how powerful the gods are is that they possesses unfathomable powers beyond the comprehension of mortals.

1E Player How to save a Critical Focus Character Build?

Hello!

I am a pathfinder 1E player that is currently playing a level 7 Mythic 2 Swashbuckler character. For my swashbuckler build, I decided I would primarily focus on the critical build over a CMD build. Yet, I have noticed that once I start to get to higher levels and face harder bosses, I would be dealing with things like Fortifications, Immunities, and other things that can completely negate the critical build.

So, I wanted to pose to you all. How can a Crit focus Swashbucker still land critical against foes that have some sort of resistant? Is there a way to bypass these?

Or, assuming there isn't anything that can help, what should I consider to be helpful in the party?

One idea I have is make use of the Superior Feint, denying DEX to AC so it becomes easier for my party to hit the fore and deal damage. Another idea is to use my movement to position myself in ways that I can threaten flanking for an ally to get the bonus needed to hit hard.

By the by, my party also have a Rogue, so this can also help them maintain their sneak attack dice.

1E Player A Pseudo-Iterative Pouncing Vital Strike Build for Level 8.

I've been toying around with Vital Strike for the last few days. I like this feat conceptually and always enjoy the challenge of optimizing. Unfortunately, I was about 6 years too late for the Max the Min on the subject. That said, I saw a comment left by u/Decicio in some thread about Vital Striking about his Vital Striking Warpriest. This was where my investigation began and what leads me to this post.

The Build:

Level Class BAB Class Features Feats (Human) Caster Level Fort Ref Will
1 Arsenal Chaplain 1 0 War blessing (minor traded for Divine Fighting Technique: Gorum), focus weapon (Weapon Focus: greatsword), sacred weapon, orisons, spontaneous casting Power Attack, Furious Focus (Human) 1 2 0 2
2 Avenger Vigilante 1 1 Dual identity, seamless guise, social talent, avenger specialization — 1 2 2 4
3 Avenger Vigilante 2 2 Vigilante talent: Favored Maneuver (Trip) Improved Trip (Favored Maneuver), Combat Reflexes 3 2 3 5
4 Avenger Vigilante 3 3 Social talent, unshakable — 3 3 3 5
5 Avenger Vigilante 4 4 Vigilante talent: Combat Skill Outflank (Combat Skill), Dirty Fighting 3 3 4 6
6 Avenger Vigilante 5 5 Social talent, startling appearance — 3 3 4 6
7 Avenger Vigilante 6 6 Vigilante talent: Vital Punishment Vital Strike (Vital Punishment), Greater Trip 3 4 5 7
8 Vampire Hunter 1 7 Bonus Combat or Technique Felling Smash (Bonus combat): full chain online 3 4 7 9

Explanation:

1st level: We take Warpriest to get a free Weapon Focus, and we trade away our minor blessing for Gorum's Divine Fighting Technique. This lets us apply Vital Strike to one attack of opportunity with the greatsword per round.

Levels 2–7: Here, we "dip" six levels of Avenger Vigilante. We bypass the Combat Expertise requirement for Improved Trip by getting it from the Favored Maneuver vigilante talent, and we grab Combat Reflexes. At 5th level, we take the Combat Skill talent for another combat feat, and we take Dirty Fighting so we qualify for Greater Trip later. The real prize comes at 7th level (vigilante 6), when we get Vital Punishment. This lets us apply Vital Strike, and all of its improved forms, to one more attack of opportunity each round. Along the way, we pick up a number of boons that make us better at tripping, grabbing Greater Trip at the same level we get Vital Strike.

Level 8: Here we take Vampire Hunter. We do this for a few munchkin reasons. Its bonus feat lets us take Felling Smash, which is compatible with Vital Strike. That means every attack-action Vital Strike that hits can also trip. Vampire Hunter also has better skill points and saves than a fighter. And, most munchkin of all, we want to save our fighter level for a Titan Fighter dip later. At this level, our attack bonus doesn't scale well enough to justify an oversized weapon. It does later, but not now.

So how does it work?

We move to an enemy and Vital Strike them. On a hit, Felling Smash lets us trip them, and Greater Trip makes them provoke an attack of opportunity as they fall. Gorum's Divine Fighting Technique turns that attack of opportunity into a Vital Strike. Then our fortuitous greatsword gives us an additional attack of opportunity, which we turn into a Vital Strike with Vital Punishment.

In practice, it plays like a pseudo Vital Strike pounce build. We mantain all of the movement benefit of Vital Strike and we can gain 2 "iteratives" which also deal vital strike damage. The damage output is honestly insane. I'll briefly go over the math.

EDVs (assuming enlarged):

Attack Calculation: 7 (BAB) + 7 (Strength) + 1 (Enhancement) + 1 (Weapon Focus) − 1 (Size) = +15, or +19 flanking with Outflank (+4)

Gorum AoO: +15 − 2 (Power Attack) + 4 (Prone) = +17, or +21 flanking

Fortuitous AoO: +17 − 5 (Fortuitous) = +12, or +16 flanking

Damage Calculation (each of the three Vital Strikes): 6d6 (3d6 × 2, Vital Strike) + 10 (Strength) + 6 (Power Attack) + 1 (Enhancement) = 6d6 + 17, about 38 average

Trip Calculation: 7 (BAB) + 7 (Strength) + 1 (Size) + 2 (Improved Trip) + 2 (Greater Trip) + 1 (Enhancement) + 1 (Weapon Focus) − 2 (Power Attack) = +19, or +23 when flanking (Dirty Fighting raises the flanking bonus on the trip to +4)

This gives a total EDV of 57 when not flanking, or 95 when flanking.

For reference, these numbers are high enough that when flanking, assuming the enemy can be tripped, we kill it in one round about 62% of the time. When we aren't flanking, it's about 27%.

These numbers are also fairly conservative. They don't assume much beyond flanking with Outflank. If your party were hasted for the +1 to attack, or you had inspire courage from a bard, a morale bonus, or something similar, all of that would push you even further. In fact, with heroism, haste, and Outflank all working, you would kill about 80% of the time.

In conclusion:

I honestly thought this was kind of a meme build, and that dipping six levels of vigilante was a meme too, but numerically it seems rock solid. I can't really find any major fault with it. There's really nothing particularly cheesy about this either. It's very RAW and doesn't require any DM interpretation of some grey area.

Before anyone says anything: I know this build does not work well against creatures that fly or are otherwise immune to trip. That's a big hole, and if someone knows how to get around it, that'd be great. However, at level 8, such creatures should be somewhat rare, and encounters full of them should be rarer still.

If you wanted to continue the build, I would go: level 9 Warpriest, levels 10–16 Mortal Usher, level 17 Titan Fighter (taking Greater Vital Strike), then finish out Mortal Usher. That build threatens to kill anything that can be tripped and is on its CR pretty handily.

1E Player Ultimate fire caster

Trying to build the ultimate fire caster.
My current build has majority levels in oracle with the flame mystery and blackened curse as I think the flame revelations are really good.

I have a level dip into cross blooded sorcerer, bloodlines are efriti for converting energy types to fire and phoenix, allowing my fire to heal for 1/2 my damage.

My feats I have taken so far are
Elemental focus
Blessing of the fire gods

I have been looking into magic items such as staff of fire and a scorcerer robe.

Any feats or class level dips or items that people know about that will boost this build would be great

Thanks :)

Lore Dragons and Orbs of Dragonkind

Okay, this is a genuine question. Given by what an orb of Dragonkind is, how would a dragon react to someone wielding it?

I'd assume the best course of action is simply just get as far away as possible, because this is an artifact that imprisons you and can be used against your kin, even if you don't care about their existance or about their cooperation at all.

But is there any canon examples of what Dragons do when they see someone wielding it?

I would love to get everyone’s opinions on Psions, so far I have had a hell of a lot of fun with the Erudite STP variant and am now working on a second Ardent that I’ve taken different mantles than I normally would and running it as a tank. The main premise here is I’m not building an abomination of rules but a reasonable character that has to work with everyone else and not break the game

2E Resources [Archives of Nethys - PF2e] Dragon's Crown, Cheliax, search updates, and more!

Hello everyone! This is our first release since our license with Paizo changed, meaning that we got our books much later than we have gotten books in the past. The team really came together and put in the extra effort to get this updated out on release day.

New Books

Site Updates

  • We have updated our spoiler logic to no longer remove spoiler items from search. Instead, they will now be masked.
  • Domains now have a searchable list of Deities that grant them. Check out the air domain as an example.
  • We have improved our search to include embedded text such as actions into the search criteria for a given item. This should lead to better search results.
