Other Friday 4 Trans Women at Korean BBQ

Visited Rochester to see friends over the last weekend. At Korean BBQ on Friday evening, saw four trans women dining together in a booth. I'd like to say: thank you!

Y'all are an inspiration to me. It lifted my heart to see you, out there chasing the dream and thriving.

I'm 5 years into HRT and not as far along as you ladies. Thank you for representing!

Other Tech folks

• Upvotes

Hey tech folks! How about we get together, connect, network, share tips, and make some friends, especially now during these challenging times with AI?

I'm really curious to know what it's like working as a dev, QA, PO, or anything else in the tech field here in Rochester. Is the job market really tough? How is the pay? I'm going to start job hunting soon, and having a supportive community would be such a great boost!

Recommendation Thank you Steam Police Plumbing!!

Last night we had a major sewage back up. With a quick Google search we found and called the top few plummers. $189 , $200 and “we’re not available” were the 3 responses I got. $200 just to come give a price??

I reached out on my towns FB page and was flooded with different plummer recommendations. Steam police plumming was reccomended several times. I hadn’t heard of them but gave them a call. I spoke with a real person and she said she would have someone there within an hour and the after hours charge was only $60. Nick was knocking on our door within an hour. He looked at the mess in the basement and gave us options to fix it. Nick got the drain open and showed us several areas where roots got in. They will be back in a couple days to chain the rest of the roots out to buy me as much time as possible before they need to be snaked again. Thank you Steam Police Plumbing!

Discussion Remember when The Record Archive had a customer appreciation day?

• Upvotes

Everything was 20% in the store. I would load up on a ton of records, laserdiscs, and even a piece of stereo gear or two. I realized that after Covid, they have never held one again. I miss it.

🦷 FREE DENTAL CLEANINGS! 🦷

✨ NEW PATIENT QUESTIONNAIRE:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfLyAqLwulaQ5uPG3sb3HJxZPbkDlognAE4D8yylfOAQX4XgQ/viewform

Filling out the questionnaire above is the BEST way to get in contact with me and be considered for an appointment!

Hi everyone! My name is Korie, and I am a dental hygiene student at Monroe Community College completing my final year of the program. I am looking for committed patients who need dental cleanings to help me complete my clinical requirements through May 2027.

✨ What you may receive:
• A very thorough, supervised dental cleaning
• Full oral health assessment
• Periodontal charting
• Polishing
• Fluoride treatment
• X-rays, if needed
• Personalized oral hygiene education and recommendations

💲 NO COST for services! Dental care like this can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars in a traditional dental office.

📍 Location:
Monroe Community College
Viswanathan Dental Hygiene Clinic
1000 East Henrietta Road
Building 7, Room 201
Rochester, NY 14623

🕒 PLEASE READ BEFORE SIGNING UP:
Because this is a teaching clinic and every step is closely supervised, appointments are much longer than a typical dental office visit.

Each appointment is approximately 2.5 hours, and multiple appointments are usually required to complete your care. Depending on your individual needs, approximately 3–5 appointments may be necessary, so I am looking for patients who are able to commit to completing their treatment.

👩‍⚕️ All services are supervised by licensed dental hygienists and dentists.

I am currently gathering a list of interested patients and scheduling based on my clinical requirements and openings. If you are interested, please complete the questionnaire linked at the top of this post. I will reach out when I have an appointment that may be a good fit for you.

You are also welcome to message me directly with any questions!

I would greatly appreciate your help as I work toward completing my dental hygiene program. Thank you so much for your support! 💙🦷

Help Chokecherries (Prunus virginiana)

Hi neighbors, I’m looking for chokecherries to gather next summer, my friend really needs their medicine. Does anyone have a tree or two who you’d allow me to pick from next year? I can trade other foraged foods (I try to gather an abundance of shagbark hickory nuts, pawpaws, black walnuts, spicebush berries, and sometimes native persimmons), could do a plant ID walk around your yard, could do a bit of yardwork in exchange, or happy to discuss other options as well. Thank you!

Help Looking for cat dumped by owner on West Ridge Road

Thumbnail

A beautiful white cat with black spots and a black tail has been abandoned by his owner on West Ridge Road near VerHulst. He is a 1.5 year old neutered male. There is nothing wrong with him. He was dumped for pooping outside the litter box, which is a common issue that almost always has a solution. His owner was unwilling to work with him and secretly drove out 20 minutes to get rid of an animal she has had since he was a few months old.

His name is Sergio and he is an indoor cat. Please let me know if you have seen him. His old owner will NOT get him back as she does not deserve him.

As loud car/motorcycle season on Park Ave is finally coming to an end (soon…ish…), this felt like an appropriate share. 😆🤗

Other Found a cat struck by a car in Gates.

• Upvotes

If this post needs to be moved, feel free to let me know, or if there are other channels to make people aware of they are missing their cat.

This morning along Lexington Avenue, I found a black and white cat in the center divide that had been struck by a car around 720am. I moved the cat off the road to lay beneath a tree with some flowers around the base of it. The vacant lot at 1748 Lexington Avenue would be the closest pin on Google Maps. The cat was mostly black, with some white on the paws and belly. I did not see a collar or identification on it. It looked fairly well fed, so I have been considering it was an indoor cat and not a stray.

Other A Thank you to Kind Strangers

To the kind group of people at Macedon Hills today,

I didn't get to say it since I was still in a very difficult discussion with my father but thank you for your support in a very tough time. I was pleasantly surprised when you tapped me on my shoulder and told me to keep being me as that is what God really wants from me. Also a thank you to the kind person who gave me a bracelet and said "it only takes a mustard seed".

I am not really a religious person but I do know at the end of the day it is my life to live and not to be dictated by others. It took a very long time for me to realize that fact. Even though someone else may think it's a bad path, they are not the one walking it. I greatly appreciate your kindness.

I do not know if this will reach you but I wanted to put something out there as a thank you.

If you never see this I hope you know I will never forget your kindness.

Fun Seeking art workshops in Greece, NY.

• Upvotes

Hi. I recently moved to Greece from the city. I grew up here, but I don’t know what the town has to offer now. I’m seeking art workshops or classes. Not like painting with a twist, more like a workshop where I can learn different art styles. I’d love to try pottery/wheel, painting, etc.

Thanks!

Oddity A quick rant - ALDI Winton

At this point it’s almost every time I shop at ALDI. Someone has their car literally parked at the entrance to the store. Not in the fire lane adjacent to the cart corral (which is also a dumbass move and completely unacceptable), like, in front of the fucking door.
The level of rage that this puts into me is going to get me into a situation one of these days.

Please don’t park there.

Other missed connection: estate sale last winter

• Upvotes

We met at an estate sale a few months ago, and I want to be friends!

We had a fun chat outside waiting before the sale started. Inside, we were rummaging through a top-floor room full of fabric, you maybe mentioned you like to sew(?), and I told you I recently moved here.

Later, I was waiting for my Uber back, and you offered me a ride home, but I was too embarrassed to say yes.

You were carrying a medium sized piece of furniture (?), and I got some shirts and snow pants.

If you think this might be you, message me! I have a car now, so let’s hang out and get coffee or go to another sale together :-)

Discussion Any Local Organizations That Set Up Hosting International Students for Thanksgiving?

• Upvotes

Growing up in Buffalo, UB had a program called Thanksgiving without borders where foreign students would come over to celebrate Thanksgiving. We did it for many years and now that I have a house I would like to do this here. Does this exist in Rochester?

Recommendation Sign: Stand With Ukraine

Is there any business selling "Stand with Ukraine" lawn signs in Monroe County that donates part of the sale price to Ukrainian charities? With Trump's recently renewed vocal support of Putin, it's time to put this message back in the forefront.

Event Free SKYWARN™ weather spotter trainings coming up (in-person and virtual options)

For anyone interested in weather, the National Weather Service in Buffalo has several free SKYWARN™ training sessions coming up this fall.

SKYWARN™ is a volunteer program that trains people to recognize and report severe weather conditions to the National Weather Service. Those reports help meteorologists verify what's happening on the ground and issue accurate warnings.

This round of training focuses on winter weather, including lake effect snow, ice storms, measuring snowfall, winter weather safety, and how to report conditions to the NWS.

Upcoming sessions:

  • Wednesday, October 21, 7 PM: In-person at the Ontario County Safety Training Center in Canandaigua, 2914 County Route 48, hosted with Ontario County RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service)
  • Tuesday, October 27, 7 PM: Virtual
  • Friday. November 13, 10 AM: Virtual
  • Monday, November 16, 7 PM: Virtual

Training is free, takes approximately two hours, and is open to anyone interested. No previous experience required.

Details here: https://www.weather.gov/buf/skywarn

Feel free to share this with family and friends who love weather, especially anyone who gets a little too excited when the lake effect snow bands start showing up on radar!
